Had a quick trip over to Hanoi. Felt really sorry for the hotel as it was extremely quiet and only one or the restaurants open. The cleanliness and standards were at the highest level. And easy place to stay.
Nice stay, with room for improvement
Our stay at the Melia was good, but there is room for improvement. Pros: -The hotel is centrally located. -The room was nice and had city views. The pillow menu is a luxurious addition. -The breakfast buffet, which we had every day of our stay, was amazing. There is a large selection of food. -The hotel had pretty, festive decor during Christmas time. Cons: -They treat guests differently - rules apply to some guests but not others. After eating at the breakfast buffet, I noticed a “Grab n Go” station (right outside the door) with pastries and sandwiches. The female employee stopped me and said that it’s one or the other - the buffet or grab n go. Since I ate at the buffet, I can’t get anything from the station. That’s ok. However, right after, someone else walked out of the buffet and got stuff from the grab n go station. She didn’t stop him like she stopped me, but instead, helped him package it up! (She definitely saw him walk out of the buffet, since she greeted him.) -The pillow was too high for my mom’s neck and she was having trouble sleeping, so she went to the front desk and requested a thinner pillow. The front desk said that they would bring one up to our room, but they never did. We asked again the next day and they brought one up that time.
Lovely 5* Melia
Received an efficient check in at the Melia and upgraded to a Premium Room which needless to say was very comfortable and well equipped with view over the city and in a good location for restaurants and attractions. Our guide from the airport recommended a local restaurant Quan An Ngon which was a ten minute walk away. Sort of a food court with kitchens all around. Suffice to say we ordered twice as much as needed but fabulous experience, food and value. Finished the evening with a cycle rickshaw back to the hotel, poor driver, we had him puffing! we enjoyed two nights at the hotel and our organised tours of Hanoi. Hoa Loa prison was just around the corner and very convenient. Due to Covid -19 we had to rearrange our itinerary which meant another night at the Melia, this time in a deluxe room which whilst comfortable looked out over the adjacent building site and 24 hour working for future reference but least of concerns!
Excellent centrally located hotel
Originally staying for three nights either side of a trip to Ha Long Bay but ended up as a straight three day stay as Ha Long was cancelled due to coronavirus quarantine. Modern high rise and centrally located with most attractions within walking distance. Obviously visited by world dignitaries by the photo’s in the lobby. Breakfast buffet was good. Couldn’t really fault the hotel but found three nights in Hanoi was more than enough - bit too busy and smoggy for me!
good hotel, good location
we stayed there just as Virus was increasing so not many tourists there Nice hotel, good breakfasts, also ate dinner there , also really good. Romm was upgraded on arrival and had separate bedroom , lovely views aswell. Staff were mostly friendly . Good location to explore sights, most of which were closed at this time. We had our temperature checked every time we returned from walk, which was good
