Sting in the tail
My first time in Memphis and I was super excited , been wanting to come here for years. Initial reaction was disappointing. Hotel was somewhat shabby , in a noisy and poor location of town and just a few yards too far from the city centre. Functional but unexciting room Though the staff are all super stars ( except one ) , reception , bar staff , shuttle drivers all superb. Couple of great nights in bar chatting with night stopping flight crew. BUT there is a sting , a couple of items disappeared from my hotel room , nothing of any value ..a couple of fridge magnets and a bag all from The Alamo . Somewhere I have waited sixty years to visit and am unlikely to do so again. I have emailed management but as yet received no reply. So a poor review , not terrible that would be an insult to the staff.....except the light fingered one
Great location, amazing staff
This hotel is located downtown in walking distance to many popular spots. Their fitness center had everything I needed plus a map for a running route along the water. But the best thing about this property is the staff. This was my fourth time staying at the hotel and was greeted back with warm, friendly smiles (Thank you, Nikki and Lamaria!) I look forward to my next visit to this hotel.
The good, the bad and the ugly...
I'll start with "The Good". The hotel is staffed with helpful and friendly folks. I had only to ask and folks made it happen; from extra coffee from the maid to the servers in the lobby restaurant. The gym was large and well equipped. The hotel van service was clean and ran on time. While we're on the subject of good, the dining was very good. The menu choices are quite amble to cover a wide variety of food choices. The "must try" hamburger was indeed noteworthy as juicy and flavorful. My server, Marguirita, was the best server I've had in memory. She was attentive without hovering and her smile and southern charm made the meal amazing. Now for the bad... The hotel is tired and a fresh coat of paint can't hide that. From old plumbing that drips in the sink and shower to hallway carpet that feels like it's been soaked in Dr. Pepper, major renovations need to be made. As for the ugly... Don't expect peaceful sleep here. If you have an odd numbered room, you'll hear the highway noises all night. The other side of the hotel is 50 yards from an old church that has bells that begin ringing sharply at 0800 and that takes a 'toll' on your sleep, especially if you hit the bed after midnight. For airline crews on the later flights, this is a hard 'no-go'. Sadly, there's little that can be done for either side of the hotel so it's doomed to a 'noise complaint' review no matter which room you get.
Not as good as the write up
This hotel needs a revamp in the rooms as not up to standard expected. The reception staff were disinterested and not that helpful. The breakfast choice was good and the waitresses were really friendly and helpful. On checking out early morning there was no reception staff. We never used our credit card there yet was charged nearly £300 with no authority. Our tour company had to get it cancelled 4 days later!
No, no , no!
We visited for a 3-day holiday and left with a headache. Firstly, this hotel says it has had an expensive refurb.... pity they didn’t touch the guest rooms/bathrooms. The cleaning & waitresses were fine. The reception staff were uninterested, inefficient and clearly lacking in charisma or hospitality skills. The truly galling thing, which completely soured our holiday, was the fact that due to their front-desk incompetence, we were charged several hundred dollars that we hadn’t spent there and despite several calls and emails of complaint, it took days for our tour company to reclaim the money. We have had NO apology from the hotel re- causing stress and spoiling that leg of our trip. Don’t go there.
