Always a great hotel but please reconsider pet policy
Under the current Covid circumstances every hotel is struggling to maintain service normalcy. This was our 3rd visit to this Westin in the past 8 years and I think the staff tried really hard to tend to customers' needs (especially the restaurant and golf staff), and my family is very thankful for their efforts as they made our stay as pleasant as they could. I took 1 star off only for one reason: I understand that this hotel offers pet lodging (and I believe customers are charged a fee for that), but let's also remember that this a Westin where patrons pay a lot of money to stay. There is no need or reason to hear a dog barking at 6 am next door (I have 2 dogs and I make separate arrangements for them before we leave for trips), so I am passing some feedback to the hotel management to please reconsider your pet policy.
Westin Savannah Harbor Golf Resort & Spa March 24, 2021 - March 27, 2021
This was our 2nd time staying at the Resort. We travel with our 2 furry friends and so we are subject to the $150 pet fee per stay. Our first stay last year we were on the 15th floor with a balcony and the room was perfect. This time our room was on the 8th floor and the room was seriously in need of new carpet. There were numerous stains on the carpet and it looked like a child had possibly been playing with a marker or crayon. Other than that the Resort is very nice and clean. The staff is friendly and most of the facilities are open at the resort.
Still reeling from Covid staffing shortages and inability to rehire furloughed employees
Spent 5 days/4nights and was very disappointed. Staffing levels are well below normal which led to many services being eliminated or reduced not to mention the stress it put on the existing staff who were very friendly. ( shout out to Edwin, Tathia and isiah) Services affected include : 1) No Housekeeping. 2) No room Service. 3) no lunch available unless you went over the the golf course 4) No pool side service or bar. The hotel is a nice property but service due to the above was more like a 3 star certainly not a four star experience. Also Gym and spa are located at the other property a short walk or shuttle ride away but nonetheless not in the main property.
TERRIBLE during COVID
I have stayed at this hotel multiple times pre-Covid and we loved it! The pool bar & grill was always open and fun, multiple restaurants, and the gift shop. We booked and stayed here Easter weekend 2021 and it was TERRIBLE. I talked to multiple staff members who gave us the excuse of not having enough staff during the pandemic, and while I try to be understanding, the service was still terrible. Our room was not ready for over 2.5 hours after the 4:00 check-in time. When we finally arrived in our room, it wasn't even clean - it looked like a huge pile of dog poop on the floor, something orange on the sheets, and only one towel. The gift shop was closed for the ENTIRE weekend (Friday afternoon- Monday afternoon), the pool bar/grill wasn't opened and the restaurants were only partially open. On Monday, there wasn't a single bar or restaurant open, meaning that we couldn't even find a bottle of water. Further, the lines for the elevators were 30-40 people deep at some points. We are loyal Marriott members and even have the Marriott credit card, but when we called to complain about the issues during our stay, the front staff was less than friendly or apologetic. Compared to our pre-pandemic stays at this hotel, it was terrible and not somewhere I would recommend staying until they are back up to full staff and their service standards have improved substantially.
I really wanted to love this hotel. We specifically stayed here and not across the river in the newer Marriott because we wanted a pool. The days we sat at the pool, there was nothing open for food, alcohol or even a glass of water. You are very secluded over here so the least that this hotel could offer is a restaurant open all day to get a little bite or drink. People were also complaining about no clean towels at pool. We stayed five nights and were not offered clean bath towels or any refills on things in the room. We called spent 20 minutes calling front desk about this, and no answer. The ferry is inconvenient, it stops at 9:40 so many times we were stuck on the other side and had to wait long periods of time for ubers. Spend the extra money and stay at one of the newer Marriotts, this did not feel like a vacation.
