Portland & Oregon holiday highlights

Portland is quickly becoming one of the coolest cities in the country. Seattle might be the Pacific North West’s most famous and largest city, however, it’s this unique destination that’s getting most column inches in travel supplements and magazines. People head here not only for the craft breweries and coffee shops but also to soak up the unconventional atmosphere that attracts real characters. You won’t move far without spotting a Keep Portland Weird bumper sticker or sign.

The state’s largest city is also the gateway to the underrated natural landscapes of Oregon. Head inland and you’ll reach the peaks of the Cascade Range – Mount Hood just a couple of hours away from the heart of the city and the impossibly beautiful Crater Lake is approximately four hours to the south. Travel westwards and you’ll reach the Pacific Ocean. California might be go-to place for road trips that hug the coastline but for those in the know, Oregon’s 362-mile section of the Pacific Coast Highway is where it’s at. There are quiet roads, deserted and breathtaking coves where you can watch the sun set, lighthouses perched on rocky outcrops, caves full of sea lions and unforgettable coastal vistas.
