It is standard practice for resorts/hotels within the USA to charge a mandatory resort fee which is payable locally. This fee can be anywhere between 5USD to 40 USD per room per night and is not included in the cost of your Kuoni holiday.
They might be all about nature, but Rocky Mountain trips will start with a bit of city time. We love Denver for its modern-city-meets-Old-West edge: in one day you can visit galleries, spot street art, sip on craft beer and shop for cowboy hats and belt buckles at Rockmount Ranch Wear. The past plays a huge part in Salt Lake City’s character too. The city was founded by the 19th-Century leader of the Mormon Church, Brigham Young, and it’s still the headquarters of the church over 170 years later.
Once you’ve left the big city, it’s all about embracing the wilderness and the open road. Things get a little more rustic and the hotels tend to be no-frills; thankfully, you’ll be spending most of your time exploring and you’ll just need a place to sleep. The Great American West is also a great place to hire a motorhome. Find a lakeside spot on the edge of Yellowstone National Park, sleep in the shadow of a mountain in Grand Teton or see the stars in the big skies of Montana.
With its hot spring towns tucked away in mountain valleys, lofty ‘fourteener’ peaks and the ruins of ancient ancestral cliff-dwelling, Colorado can easily take centre stage on your USA road trip. You can loop round from Denver and national parks such as Black Canyon of the Gunnison, Mesa Verde and Rocky Mountain, and follow parts of the 720-mile Hot Springs Loop.
The Great American West
North of Salt Lake City, it starts to get really remote. Distances are long but the rewards on the way are more than worth it. In Wyoming there are the neighbouring parks of Grand Teton and Yellowstone. Next door is Montana, the place you’ll want to live out your Wild West dreams. This is where the mountains give way to the plains and a rich native history is told. Over in the Dakotas, there are bison-dotted hills, the iconic Mount Rushmore and historic towns like Deadwood.
The domestic electrical supply is 110V, 60 cycles AC. Sockets are for plugs with two flat pins.
