Excellent Front Desk Staff!
I recently stayed at the Standard in the East Village after our girls trip to Mexico City was canceled due to the coronavirus. My friend and I wanted to stay at a hotel that wasn't in either of our neighborhoods and near a friend's apartment. We were really excited to check out the Standard since I've been before to the excellent Narcissa restaurant in the hotel. Our stay was made extra special as Danny at the front desk heard our story and was able to hook us up with a very nice room on the 20th Floor and a bottle of champagne to toast to our staycation. The shower with steam was dreamy and our views from the Empire State Building down to the new WTC and over to the Brooklyn & Manhattan Bridge. I highly recommend looking for an upgrade to one of the suite types as the room were fairly large for NYC standards. Thanks to Danny and the staff at the Standard for making our visit memorable!!
Rooms are good but room service needs improvement
We stayed at The Standard East Village for 3 nights and were looking forward to it prior to our arrival as I have always been a fan of the concept behind The Standard but never stayed there before. As we arrived early, our room was not ready, no issues because we got to drop our bags and then set out to explore the area. We came back to the hotel to have a coffee at the cafe and were surprised by the disinterested service level. As we were seated by the bar we also heard the chatting between the staff members and I guess you had a change in staffing policies and maybe management? They were not happy in their workplace at least... Later we went for brunch/lunch at Narcissa, the restaurant was full but we got seats at the bar. The bartender who looked after us was great which spiked a bit more confidence in the F&B team. After lunch we were checked in to the room and the room was spacious and ok, albeit a bit dated, would have appreciated plugs on both sides next to the bed however! Where the hotel really falls short however is the roomservice. We used it 3 times during our 3 night stay and every time it was the same disinterested and almost rude person taking the orders over the phone and the person that actually delivered the room service made you feel like you had interupted her from something way more important and the entire concept of room service was an inconvenience to her. Quite the shame because most of the things we did order from the room service were rather good.
Wheelchair user well cared for
I stayed at The Standard for a couple of nights while on a business trip. As a wheelchair user I am used to so-called accessible rooms being anything but, and hotel staff being less than accommodating. The staff at The Standard went out of their way to insure my stay was excellent. They contacted me ahead of time and were very responsive to my questions about bed height and shower bench. When I arrived they were quick to assist me, and when there were some small issues with the room, such as desk placement and shower head, they send someone up straight away to fix things. While the room wasn’t perfect, their level of responsiveness and willingness to help made for an excellent stay. They even delivered my luggage to my office on the day I checked out. Would highly recommend to anyone requiring special accessibility.
Went to tour NYU w our daughter and stayed 1 night here. They were very accommodating with our luggage while we went on our merry way. They gave us a late checkout and held our bags again while we found lunch nearby. The beds, linens & towels were better than most pricey chain hotels. We will be back!
Just one night close to meeting family
Great boutique feel, very clean, quiet, cool location. Check-in a little slow as I was competing with the 'phone. Although not on business I needed to be smart so no iron in the room was a negative - no coffee also not ideal (but well stocked minibar). Much better than the chains.
