Excellent service; beautiful rooms and views
I stayed at the Standard in August during COVID with my daughter before her move in to college dorm. We came with a trunk FULL of bags and dorm stuff. Franck Hermann, the Director at the Front Office, greeted us with two carts, unloaded and brought everything up with a smile. 3 days later, he did it again with even more stuff as my daughter moved in. This was just one example of the superb service all around. Rooms and public areas are clean and completely COVID safe, hand sanitizers available everywhere, the rooms are beautifully decorated and the atmosphere is fun and professionally managed. Kudos on a great experience - we were thankful for all your help!
Great View and Staff!
Got the Downtown room, view was amazing! Danny at the front desk was super helpful. We ate at the Garden, which was beautiful and perfect especially during covid. There was a $100 minimum per person which I thought was a bit high but added up quickly with drinks and food. Overall great experience and staff!
Standard experience and loaded with extra costs
We were forced to eat in the room due to The Standard's Winter Garden restaurant mixing up our reservation. We booked a yurt, was told it was no longer available, infuriating enough, were then seated at a garden table with an awning leaking on our head and table above. We stayed for 2 minutes before deciding to just eat from the room. The hotel charged a $70 delivery fee to get dinner from the kitchen downstairs up to the seventh floor. The American breakfast was terrible. An $8 diner breakfast is much more tasty and better presented, and breakfast came with a $30 delivery fee to the room. Delivery fees are not explained or advertised when you order.
The rates are really cheap because of the pandemic, however the experience of the hotel room itself was poor overall. The room wasn't very clean. hairs on the sheets, the mini bar was filthy, the tray where the food was looked like it hadn't been cleaned for a long time. Crumbs and old food on the bottom and almost every food item was expired. Which says a lot when it's a can of pringles and a snickers bar… The cafe food was good and the service there was great. The front desk and cafe staff were very nice however the restaurant hostess was very rude. When asked if a table was available and if anything was set aside for hotel guests, she was flippant and dismissive and walked away.
Great Dining Experience
My friends and I decided to have New Years Eve dinner at the Standard and it was a fantastic experience. We booked a private yurt and felt extremely safe especially under the current Covid-19 circumstances. Our hostess was kind and helpful with all our requests. The food and drinks were exceptional. I highly recommend the espresso martinis. Heather was our event planner and she got everything right. We even got in contact with someone named Shirley and together they both got us desserts for the special occasion. We will definitely be visiting again. Happy New Yurt!
