I don’t know what to say about this hotel. What do they stand for, what is the brand?? All very confusing, even more when you read TripAdvisor and the Hotel manager’s answers. He mentions a lot of times that the hotel wants to give a good service and experience. Here is our experience: The room was clean and modern. We had a suite on 10th floor, a quiet room. No disturbance from all the parties at all. Good size of the bathroom and great view. But that is about it. The service of this hotel is really bad. I have never been to a hotel with so slow service of all in the staff. We arrived just before midnight on a Saturday, then you have a dj just by the front desk. So you cannot hear anything and our check in took more than 30 min. We were so tired and just wanted to sleep after a 24 hours travel. A good hotel would have given us the key and asked us to to the real check in the next morning. We asked for an extra duvet, we got one after a long waiting time but without a cover.... Everything we asked for took ages to get and usually it was wrong. I wrote an email to the manager and got a nice answer, but no action. Usually you see if a hotel is good or not by how they deal with problems. Here I gave them a chance but nothing happened. Not even a small gesture. I must say that it was surprisingly empty words. We asked for 10 more hangers, got 4. We asked for normal coffee, got decaf. Asked for a cover to our duvet three times until it was fixed. This list with small, not important but annoying things could continue... Worst was the drive back to airport. We grabbed a taxi from the JFK airport that cost us $58 with an ok driver. The hotel arranged a bigger car but still bad quality back to airport but for a cost of $105 (hotel said it was $80, but then toll and tip was added) and with a crazy driver. So my proposal is that this hotel should just go for being the party hotel and not try to be the nice service hotel. Be honest who you are and be clear about that. Then you will have many more happy customers.
I have been coming to NYC on business for roundly 25 years, and single, affordable hotel rooms for short-term travel seem to be getting more spartan with each passing year. I had never stayed at Dream Downtown before, and I chose it based on price and convenience to my event. The room was spotless and surprisingly roomy, even with the king-sized bed. All the furniture was in good shape. The bathroom was big enough to move around comfortably, the shower stall huge and open, and everything worked just as it was supposed to. Nice to see a boutique-style hotel that still puts robes in the closet. From a design perspective, to the extent that matters, it was cool, too. Overall, a total value proposition, and I would definitely stay here again.
Friendly and Inviting Hotel!
I was in NY for business for just under two weeks and staying at the Dream Downtown. Check-in was seamless and all that I needed during my stay was catered for with ease. The hotel has a fun and friendly atmosphere. The rooms are comfortable and stylish. Room service is delicious too! Overall, a great place to stay given it's proximity to Chelsea Market - Thanks Dream Downtown for a great stay, will see you soon!
Spacious and great location
It's simply a nice hotel. The rooms are amazingly quiet and the hotel has good amenities and service. I would definitely stay again. For business purposes, there are plenty of nice restaurants and places to entertain. If you are doing anything at Chelsea Piers you will be happy to have stayed here.
A nightclub, not a hotel
This was the worst hotel stay I have had. This hotel needs to figure out what business it wants to pursue. I was booked in this hotel by a third-party service for a trip with two older teens. The location is good, and when our room was quiet, it was a nice place. The problem was that our room was not quiet when one would like it to be, like between the hours of midnight and 5 am. The hotel had an event that we heard, and even more disruptive to any hope of sleep, felt in our room, with the LOUD music vibrating walls and the beds. The hotel told me they could not turn the music down, as it was from one of their biggest events of the year. Moving to a different room at 3 am was not the situation I wanted to be in and not a positive solution. The hotel could have handled the situation much better from the very beginning by alerting me about the conditions when I checked in, not booking rooms impacted by the noise, not running a nightclub, etc. I left feeling really unwell, tired, misled and unwanted. I have never stayed at a hotel that created such an unwelcoming environment—and all utterly avoidable. Management reached out after my stay and I appreciate that gesture, but the fundamental issue I have with this establishment isn’t addressed by an afterthought. The inhospitable environment was intentional and a bigger priority to the hotel than my comfort. This business needs to figure out what it wants to be—a nightclub or a hotel. Until then this hotel is only suitable for people who go to bed when the sun rises.
