This Hotel Rocks - Pun Intended
The Hard Rock Hotel at Universal Orlando is a tie if not a close 2nd for me when it comes to hotels I've stayed at here on property. Disclosure: my wife works for UO however here is my honest review. As Orlando residents, we find ourselves taking a staycation with friends every so often, especially when it's summer time and we're looking to cool off. I've only stayed about 3 of the hotels on property, however this is one of the most fun hotels I've stayed at. The Hard Rock Hotel emerges you into theme from the drive up through the moment you walk through the door. The inside lobby smells amazing, the atmosphere makes you feel like you're backstage at your favorite band's concert and you feel like a V.I.P. because of this hotel's top notch customer service. When it comes to the rooms, they are pretty spacious and have a great set up! We had plenty of storage for our clothes, toiletries and, most important of all, our bar. The beds are amazing, you'll get a great night's sleep after playing in the parks all day. The shower, which is also important to me, feels like a million bucks. Aside from the lobby and general theming of the hotel, the absolute best part of this hotel is the pool. The poolside experience is a great place for adults young and old to hang out, drink up and relax. Now while the music alone can be great, what makes it even better is a little additional experience in the pool. You can actually dip your head underwater and listen to the music playing up above. The Hard Rock pool has speakers in the water making this an exclusively unique experience that differs from the other property pools. Now beyond music, this pool area does have a slide open to all. I don't recall if servers were walking around taking orders, however if not, there is a fantastic bar that you can easily walk up to that will certainly make your favorite cocktail. Now not knowing how things are truly being handled during COVID, I can say in the past they've hosted some special events called Velvet Sessions in which they'll bring in a well known musician to play an acoustic concert for those who purchase tickets. Bret Michaels sticks out to me as someone who's performed before. It looks like more recently Everlast played some sets. So definitely a cool feature of this hotel as well. The Hard Rock Hotel does have a nice steak house on property. I have not personally visited so I can't comment on how it is. Overall, I definitely recommend a stay here. I will certainly spend future nights at this property, especially as things continue to go back to normal. This is most recommended for Couples, Adults (largely younger adults), Professionals or families with older kids (say high school aged).
Post chirstmas getaway
We were there for 4 days from 12/26-12/30. We felt safe and the staff was top notch. The room was clean and comfortable. The express passes at the park were a huge perk as well. i also preferred to take the water taxi so you could clear security for city walk at the hotel rather than waiting in the long line by walking.
We are new Universal APs and have always wanted to stay at the Hard Rock. I decided on our first trip with the kids to book it and am so glad I did. The pass holder rate was great (off season) and I booked 2 nights. Our plan was to check in super early to get express passes knowing our room would not be ready but even at 8 AM on Friday it was! Our room was far from the elevator which I asked for and it was mostly quiet (the usual screaming children occasionally, I’m a mom, it barely registers to me). Throw on the sound app at night and everyone sleeps like a baby. The walk to Universal is short and awesome. The express passes were the reason we booked but I was very pleased overall. The beds are so comfy and long, lots of towels and toiletries. I never had to text for anything. It was a cold weekend but we braved the pool for like 10 mins the first night. It is heated but my Floridian butt was still cold. The pool is really shallow which was weird but the kids enjoyed it. We ate at the Kitchen twice for dinner and it was really great! Not your typical Bubba burger fare, this was quality burgers, amazing flat bread pizzas and my free birthday brownie, yum! Service was amazing as well. We will definitely be back!
Definietly not what we expected
We stayed at the Hard Rock back in August 2020 and it had to be the worst experience we've ever had at a Universal resort. We only stayed because the Portofino wasn't opened. We gave this location a chance since we've never stayed at the Hard Rock, so we were excited. We checked in late at night due to a flat tire causing a huge delay, which I know 100% wasn't their fault, but the room they gave us was on the opposite end of the elevators. I was upset because my daughter was in a full leg cast and no wheelchair or assistance was offered. That was the first thing that threw me off. Because why would anyone put us in a room so far from the elevator when we have a child that couldn't walk, we asked to change rooms but we didn't get that option until our last day there. Now the 2nd thing, the following night, was when an alarm went off in the middle of the night, like 1 or 2 am and NO one could give us a reason why this alarm was blaring through our room and the halls. The alarm woke up my one year old, who wouldn't go back to sleep. The 3rd day we were coming back from the park and was looking for the ferry to be told the ferry stopped running due to the weather. I was like really!!! Here we were with all kinds of stuff we purchased from the parks, a baby stroller and my daughter with a broken leg. Luckily this hotel was only a 5 minute walk from the park but it was a struggle. Any other time at the other hotels we received alerts if the ferry was closing early or anything else that may be important. So over all this trip was the worst ever and when my husband brought it to some one's attention their response was "Oh well it happens". I'm not sure if the employees didn't care about our experience or possibly if we were treated differently due to our race, but we did not feel welcomed at this hotel by ANYONE! We come to Universal at least 3-4 times a year and always stay in one of the Premium hotels because we enjoy the fast passes and club services. I don't understand how or why we were treated so badly at this hotel. It took away some of the magical feeling we experience during our usual visits and it honestly hurt our feeling. We came to have some family time after my husband and I both losing a parent this year. We needed a trip to take our minds off things but this just added to the stress. SN: This was our 2nd trip during Covid, so I don't believe that experience was due to Covid because we personally saw how the staff treated other guests. For the last 10 years we've been coming to Universal and the Hard Rock was our worst experience. We reached out to the hotel and no really cared so I thought I'd share our experience here. I have 2 stars because the location is only a 5 minute walk to the parks.
My family of 5 stayed for the busiest week of New Year’s but we felt the hotel held itself to the 50% capacity. Temperature checks with wristbands, hand sanitizer and water bottles provided in the room, 100% masks on guests and staff... we felt it was as safe as possible. Loved loved the Universal Express pass... much needed as the park hit capacity 2 out of our 3 days. And the hotel is closest in proximity to the 2 parks, you really don’t need the water taxis. Our pool days were relaxing with the reduced capacity. My 8 year old loved the water slide! Huge perks of getting a loaner guitar and amp for the duration of the stay. Plus the ability to text the concierge! Super responsive from getting towels or making dinner reservations. And many many thanks for the Lost and Found department to FedEx our left behind belongings. Couldn’t have asked for a better getaway during these COVID times.
