I have been home for 4 days and have been trying to collect my thoughts on a review. The first impression with check in wasn’t great- not rude, but very matter of fact and just not friendly if that makes sense. Tried to get a feel for an upgrade and the comment was ,”we are greater than 95% capacity so that would be difficult.” Well, I am not very assertive, so I did not pursue. There was NO WAY this place was 95% capacity with “ The Rona”. Never saw anyone on the second floor in the complex we were in the entire time. We stayed in the Harbourside facing the marina. Certainly not ocean view but very nice visual. First impression of the room was that it was clean and spacious. We headed for lunch and the beach for a bit after dropping our things in our room. Beach was beautiful...and plenty of room to spread out. Lots of empty chairs to choose from each day regardless of arrival time. The attendants on the beach were cordial but they weren’t very friendly either. The female bartender at the Sunset Beach bar was very nice, but I do not remember her name. So, we returned to our room after sunset to shower and grab dinner. While showering, I noticed the grout between the block glass was black and moldy. I just expect a bathroom to be at least as clean as the one at home! The towel bar rod fell off when I reached for the towel and it remained in the corner against the wall our entire stay. We had a nice dinner and then it was time to crawl into bed- except....there was a blood stain by the pillow. Good Lord. I called the front desk and Julia noted she would send housekeeping. No apology, nothing. The person who came to switch the sheets was less than conversational. No other disgusting mishaps after day one. No follow up by the front desk staff either. The next day, I decided to ask about a later check out (we were not departing for four days) and was told they could extend no more than an hour. Well, we were out by 10:30 and didn’t use the extension. I called the desk to ask for someone to come and bring us and our luggage to check out ....40 minutes later someone came and drove us the 4 minutes to the registration area. Staff just doesn’t seem to pay attention to much, certainly not detail. On the positive side, the grounds were very nice, and the trolly was a nice plus. We did not rent bikes for our stay, and we were going to for a day when a guy at the beach said it was $20 a day or $28 for the entire stay ( a box to check at check in)...we opted to pass. Expensive vacation ( aren’t they all) for the less than stellar experience. I don’t think my expectations are/were out of line...this place just fell short of meeting them. SS has a lot of potential, but they need to brush up on customer service. I wish I could say I got my money’s worth or that I would stay here again, but that’s not the case!
The price of the room was a little to expensive, however the resort property and beach were beautiful and the beach is very pretty especially at the sunset! Overall very nice resort with a lot of family amenities!
Great Getaway with Teens
Loved it! The resort felt safe and secure enough to allow teens the independence of traveling to the ocean and pools via bicycles. There was enough activities (and downtime) for all to enjoy. The service providers were especially kind and helpful. We will be back.
Beaware of bookings through tirvago and Otel.com
4 of us nurses had booked reservation through trivago where we ended up booking through Otel.com. With the nature of our work had to cancel reservations due to quarantine related to the pandemic of covid- 19. After several weeks of numerous emails and phone calls, was still told i will loss money I because I canceled too late. I have called this hotel and was given NO help with this delimma , and was told had to contact site where it was booked. Do not ever book with Otel.com as the are very difficult to get an acceptiable response if any , and Trivago was no help either. Both hotel and booking sites seen to be insenitive to this terrable pandemic outbreak. I now stand to loss close to $900.00.
have stayed here 4-5 times in 30+years. with small children, older children, with elder parents, as a couple, from most expensive to modest accommodations. wonderful place for children of all ages. wonderful location. easy to get around via bike, trolley, golf carts, walking. beautiful beach, with chairs/umbrellas towels set up at north and south end of the 2.5 mile resort. if you want to see fewer people, just take a litle stroll down/up the beach. breakfasts were very good/quick, servers excellent. lunch menu at pool or beach (same) have good options and are fine. room - this time we had a beach cottage. they don't tell you that a cottage is not free standing. room/wooden building needs repairs if not a total re-do. kitchen has one towel (not replaced during stay). one frying pan with chipped Teflon. a corkscrew from the dollar store. glassware that was collected/combined over past 20 years which is also true of kitchen utensils. there are 2 bathrooms, relatively new and three sleeping areas. they put only one box of tissues in entire cottage. nice screened in porch, slightly leaning (part of the re-do....) basically they are cheap and don't need to be for what they are charging. front desk people not well trained. didn't hand out map/activities sheet. didn't explain about trolley, local stores. did not offer to help with lugaage to second floor walk up room, we requested for view. they could see we are not spring chickens, albeit healthy. when we called front desk a couple of times during stay, they could not give informatoin requested (which we got from others) has a very nice 9 hole par 3 course you can see, there are many good things about resort. it is laid back, great for kids. walking. biking, golf carts make it easy. staff - while front desk staff not well trained, rest of staff is wonderful at pool, restaurant. bars, beach, trolley, tour guides. other than room, facilities are in good shape. beach is beautiful.
