A Must Stay in Oahu
This hotel is an icon with a long history. We arrived during the Christmas season in a pandemic and we were pleased to find that all the precautions have been taken to ensure the safety of guests and staff with mask mandate and social distancing. I booked a premium Mailani tower room. It was very clean and the view was simply spectacular! They placed us on the 16th floor with a large lanai to enjoy the incredible panoramic views of Waikiki beach and Diamond Head. Although the bathroom was a bit on the small side, it was enough to meet our needs and even came with a Japanese washlet. The water pressure could use some work though. Now the age of the hotel started to show when we tried to sleep at night. The air conditioning unit could be quite loud at times, but it wasn’t too unbearable. Breakfast and evening drinks and appetizer were included with a tower booking. We had to have them at the Mai Tai bar since other dining facilities were closed due to the pandemic. The service was top notch with live music every night. The seatings were spaced out just enough to ensure a safe distance although the place can be crowded during peak hours, so we chose to dine earlier around 4:30 to avoid the crowds. If you visit Oahu, you have got to stay at the Pink Palace at least once! We will be coming back for our future trips.
Relaxing New Year 2021
This is my 2nd time at TRH. Although much affected by the pandemic, its the old school charm, unbeatable location and spacious accommodations that sets this hotel apart. Truly unique and Hawaaian inspired. The relaxing gardens & foliage, architecture and service. I stayed to welcome the new year, and it was so relaxing to lounge under a pink umbrella by the beach, drink awesome cocktails at the Mai Tai Bar. Mai Tais are a must, and the Lava Flow was heaven! I love the rocking chairs while enjoying the sound of the waves early morning, or just lounging and looking at the garden catching the breeze in a lazy afternoon. Room had a walk in closet, view of the coconut grove garden, and a ceiling fan that was a delightful island feel. Can’t wait to come back again...
A perfect stay
It’s really something special to feel valued and appreciated in this busy world and this beautiful resort does just that. The people that work here is what makes this place so special and that’s what I want to point out in this review. From the moment you arrive you will see the smiling face of the best valet in the business and his name is Gerrard! He greets my family by name every time and goes above and beyond to be helpful. Lenn is another person that makes this resort so special and he does everything he can to ensure that my family was comfortable and happy during our stay. He was even there to say goodbye when we checked out and makes us feel like we always have a home away from home at this meticulously appointed resort hotel. He is the ultimate professional and he represents the Royal Hawaiian perfectly with his combination of people skills and attention to every detail. We stayed in room 318 during this visit and everything was exceptional. The crisp white linens are so soft and snuggly and the room is comfortable with a thermostat to control the temperature in each room of this two room suite. The feather pillows that we requested felt like sleeping on a cloud and the view from this room is gorgeous right at the tree line of the swaying palms. We could even see the tiny birds nesting in the trees. This suite has two doors for easy and fast entry/exit convenience and also has a very large walk-in closet along with coffee maker, hot water pot, and mini fridge. The chaos of the world melts away as soon as you walk into this spacious room and you feel relaxed whether you’re settling down for a good nights sleep or waking up to the lush view of the palm trees. You should choose this luxury hotel for the service and amenities but you will choose to return to this hotel time and time again for the excellent staff members that make this place so very special.
A grand lady struggles during a pandemic,
Class comes through, but with significant losses We wanted a warm winter treat that was relatively safe. Everyone who comes to HE is tested (or quarenteened ) Good compliance . At the "pink palace" all staff and most guests moving (not sitting drinking or eating ) wore masks. The place is a ghost town caught in a nasty cylce. No guests so all the bars & restaraunts are closed but one. Only one bar/restaraunt so few guests come. Few guests come so the food quality and service would embarras a low functioning hotel 6. In example you want an omellet with swiss cheese , the only cheese available is chedder. You bette like peach yogurt because that is all that is all we got. Shops and services quality when open remain high but many are closed or have limited hours. The beach remain stunning. The bakery, coffee shops, tea times, creative changing menus will come back in time but not during the week that we will be here. Staff keep a positive and professional attitude toward guests, they are struggling and I want to help. F.Y.I plenty of open outstanding eating venues and shops within a 2 minute walk. Many museums are closed or are open only by appointment. However the sunsets and waves revive our memories of better times. So does the hotel
Deserving of every star
This is actually an amendment to my original review of the Royal Hawaiian Resort In Waikiki, Hawaii. Making annual treks to Waikiki, we’ve stayed in several top rated places (4 start and above) along the beach. Last September was our first splurge to go “Royal”. We’ve stayed on either side of the Royal but last year, caved to temptation. How can you not be tempted to try the Royal Hawaiian? Take a walk thru and check out it’s legendary history and pink stucco exterior, tile floors, lush tropical grounds, well appointed interior decor, eclectic boutiques and prime location on Waikiki beach. They offer historical and modern accommodations and our favorite are the modern Mailani tower rooms overlooking the adult pool and jacuzzi. If that’s not enough, try the best beach bar in Waikiki - their famous Mai Tai Bar and Grill or a foodies delight - Azure Restaurant. Enough right? Not quite! LOL Trying to make our trip plans to return there again during these trying times of travel restrictions and fears of Covid 19 has not been easy. However, one employee in particular has been our savior this year and deserves recognition as to one of the many reasons the Royal is worth every penny. I’m speaking of Rachel Lindsay, Director of rooms at the Royal Hawaiian. Rachel notified us of the closures back in March, when our reservations had to be canceled due to the pandemic. She offered any help she could provide. Boy did she help, through great communication. Over 15 emails later, 3 changes she made to our dates and a dozen or more questions she answered - all whilst the resort is officially closed, she helped us get our favorite resort lined up for our visit when they reopen. We’re thrilled that the Royal has employees like Rachel which makes us feel the world revolves around our happiness. A trip to the Royal is truly a guilty pleasure, one that’s not easily afforded, but I’m here to tell you it is worth it. The daily resort fee covers many perks, the grounds and furnishings are historical, sophisticated and give you that true Island relaxed vibe. The food and drinks are top quality and a lot made from fresh local ingredients. My observation is the guests seem well behaved and are mostly adult, and those few with kids in tow have them under control. The staff are super friendly, personable, caring and best of all, Rachel works there!
