This dinner was reserved seating. Two seatings of 5 and 7pm. We chose the 7pm seating. Upon arrival it was very disorganized and difficult to check in. Once seated, it took a very long time to place a drink order. We then waited 45 minutes for our drinks, this was after making an inquiry as to when we would get them. We had to ask our server to take our food order. Then our food did not come. After an hour we inquired when to expect our orders. The server then brought our meal which was cold. The turkey was like rubber, the prime rib was chewy. No ever came back to see if our food was OK or not. Our desert had to go back as our dinner plates were not removed and no room on the table to place them down. Someone finally came and cleaned the table and brought our desert. I looked for a manager to complain about our experience and no manager could be found. I am a loyal Hilton customer, but this experience now has me questioning my future reservations. This is a Diamknd property offering service of a 1 star hotel. By no means does this property align with the typical Hilton experience. Extremely disappointed and will not return.
No room cleaning, dirty rooms, and poor hotel staff
Cleanliness (0/10): sheets and towels clean but bathroom shower has dirt between the tiles and carpets had stains. There are carpet beetles in the carpet in the rooms. If you have allergies to this bug, this will mess with you. NO ROOM CLEANING AT ALL DURING YOUR STAY - due to covid no room cleaning they will only give you new shampoos and towels upon your request. Pool (0/10): the pool chair covers are SO DIRTY with stains you would never ever sit by the pool. Staff (3/10): Front desk staff was awful they told us they'll hand us a vaccum and we can clean our own room. Requested a manger call back many times and no call back. The concierge staff was actually really nice and understanding - go to them for anything. $$$$ expensive resort fees for no reason - spa was closed and no cleaning... then why are we paying resort fees. Was essentially a hotel.
I travel quite a bit for work, so I have a good idea of what a good value looks like. The Modern is not a good value. Do not stay here. My assistant booked this for me, over the Marriott because I was looking for something closer to downtown, where I’d be working all week. First flag - my Uber driver told me he had a couple of ride share s that were pretty un happy. Second flag - charged an additional “resort fee” when I checked in. Okay, I booked through a third party, so based on my Uber ride I asked, will I be receiving room service during my six night stay? “No sir, due to COVID we are not offering any room service”. What’s the resort fee for, where’s the discount for lesser service? All other properties in Waikiki offer room service. Third flag - third night into my stay, with making my own bed a emptying my own garbage, I asked for some more Keurig coffee pods. “Sorry sir, coffee is complimentary for your initial check-in only” Please choose another property. There are so many with so much more value!
Don’t Stay Here!
We booked a room with a “partial ocean view”. What a joke. You have to crane your neck around the side of the building. Of course, we paid extra for this privilege. We were given a room next to the elevator which we heard going up and down all night long. No maid service after a week of going to the beach, made the bathroom floor very dirty. You had to empty your own trash. The beds were ridiculously low to the ground with the wooden bed frame jutting out which we bumped into numerous times. The people who worked there were very, very nice. That was the only redeeming quality about this hotel. DON’T WASTE YOUR MONEY OR POINTS STAYING HERE!
Average at best
Really should not be considered an exceptional or "boutique" hotel. It is average at best. Having spent 5 days recently I found the room noisy, appointments dated, and service poor. Perhaps COVID has made it more difficult. However the room was never serviced even when asked, and small things like requests for clean towels or replacement of in room coffee were either refused or simply just not done. Most annoying was a "Resort fee" that was charged at check in that was not shown in any prior information so in effect was a hidden added daily cost.
