Historic Hotel is a Hidden Gem
My husband & I stayed in this beautiful historic hotel from 3-28-21 until 4-4-21 and enjoyed every second! Right in the center of Waikiki, it is perfectly located for sunrises & sunsets, all the water sports, shopping, restaurants and tours. The Beach bar has excellent food & live music every night. The views of the Ocean & Diamond Head are incredible & watching the daily surfing adventures from here is unbeatable. Never had an issue getting a cab or having to explain where it was as it's been on this beach since 1901! The staff is friendly & accommodating with out being pretentious or interfering. Room 596 is spacious & well appointed, with 2 balconies, it's perfectly positioned for morning coffee & sunrises and romantic sunsets with Champagne. The bed was extremely comfortable -important to one who has difficulty sleeping in hotels. Don't miss a walk through history on the 2nd floor where,at the top of a beautiful staircase, is a small museum Gallery showcasing the hotels long history!-it's amazing! Our new home when in Oahu!
AMAZING LOCATION with history access to beach and great coffee!
This is a beautiful hotel built in 1901. there is the classic section of rooms for those that will be at the pool most of the time and want to go back in time a little when they come back and lay their head on pillow. Just beautiful! The tower has slightly larger rooms so you can do yoga in the room if you want. But no worries, there is complimentary group yoga on the beach front everyday if you are in a smaller room. Reserve beach chairs as soon as you register or day before, as you would expect they are in high demand. Not really a kids kind of place recommend outrigger or other hotel for kids, this is a couple, honeymoon, anniversary or just a sexy get away place, quiet relaxing and luxurious! I would come back.
Special Property and Lovely Staff
We had a BEAUTIFUL dinner watching the sunset, eating great food, and enjoying the great service (our waiter was Shawn and her really just made our night). We were set to fly out the next morning. Instead we changed our flights and booked a night at the Moana! You couldn’t possibly have a better location on Wakiki Beach (and due to covid we practically had the beach to ourselves). Each and every member of the staff we interacted with were SO NICE. They were just accommodating and kind to our kids. They seem to really just get it that people are vacation and look for ways to make their guests feel special. The queen of this was Nancy, who served us our poolside breakfast and we just totally adored. Our son has a food allergy and she was over the top considerate, ran to get something specific for him from another part of the property. He’s 6 and felt really special that she did this. We left our vacation (the first 6 days had been at Aulani) on such a wonderful note. I encourage any Aulani goers to carve out a night or two here before the flight home, you won’t be sorry!
Mixing old Hawaii with new, an incredible gorgeous hotel
Due to the COVID environment it’s been very difficult to travel in the past year. So much that my wife and I have not been able to go anywhere during this time for either fear of the pandemic or because of the protocol involved in traveling back to Hawaii. So it was time we took things into our own hands and decided on a staycation in Waikiki. As an employee within the hospitality industry and as a local resident, I have always seen and admired this hotel growing up hearing about its history and being the first hotel in the territory of Hawaii before it became a state. We booked ourselves a room, originally in the city category but the front desk staff was nice enough to upgrade us to a room with a gorgeous view. We loved everything about our stay. The room was spacious, clean and we felt incredibly safe. The bathroom was a nice touch because it included a modern Japanese style toilet with the built in heating seat and bidet. The room itself had a lot of roominess to it and a seating area for when we weren’t in bed. The balcony overlooked the courtyard and we had a magical view of Diamond Head and Waikiki Beach. It was a truly mesmerizing view that I don’t know anyone would get tired of. The property also included a mini museums of the history of the hotel, modern fitness center and pool area that really felt like an open playground. The beach next door was a nice touch to get out and enjoy the open air and ocean. We will definitely be back!
Room 1976, ocean front tower room, king bed
We had to stay an extra night due to a flight cancellation. I had to book the morning of the stay and used Marriott points. I had just achieved Platinum level with a stay on the North Shore. We arrived within the hour of making the reservation about 11:00 AM, well before the usual check in time. The desk staff not only got us a room but upgraded us to the tower, ocean front room. We simply had to show our travel Hawaii registration on check in and didn't have any problems. We were to our room in minutes and the bags arrived before we could even open the balcony door. The room has a very private balcony with two chairs and a small table. We were able to do a take out dinner from the restaurant downstairs that night and have outdoor socially distanced dining with my son. The staff in the restaurant were so accommodating with providing real silverware and cloth napkins for our take out meal. We were given a coupon for free morning breakfast. This covered $15 each for 2 people. The eggs benedict was wonderful with really lovely hollandaise sauce. We were seated near the beach side of the patio. The staff went overboard with going next door to get my husband's latte. The hotel's latte machine wasn't working and they were able to accommodate him. The room was lovely with a very comfortable king size bed. The bath is on the small side but has a neat bidet feature with a remote control on the commode. The shower has a tall shower head and a hand held wand that is really convenient. We had a red eye flight the next day and the hotel allowed us to have a 4 PM check out. This allowed a full day of exploring the beach and to have a nice walk down past the aquarium, some shopping, and a lovely afternoon nap before leaving.
