Beautiful beach view of Hawaii
In my opinion this is the best spot in Oahu if you want the ocean view. The Tower wing has newer rooms so make sure you request for it. The manager Joseph was awesome in addressing our room concerns. The concierge staff are friendly , though some of the front desk and beach bar staff may benefit from Communication training.
We just left the Moana for our honeymoon and I have to say we were pretty disappointed. I am a Marriott Platinum Elite and upon checking in there was no recognition. It's hard to describe but the man checking us in seemed to make us feel like we didn't fit the "criteria" to stay at the hotel. (we had just travelled 14 hours so we certainly weren't looking our best). He failed to give us a parking pass or ever ask about parking which caused a headache when trying to leave the parking garage. He also never gave us towel cards so we couldn't get towels right away. When I asked about any upgrades, he said "Only if you want to pay more" despite my Platinum status giving us upgraded rooms if available - which there clearly were. The hotel was beautiful, definitely dated, but cool history. The poolside food and drinks were expensive, tasted good, but barely any alcohol in the drinks for $20. We had also met another couple there on their honeymoon who stated they received a bottle of champagne from the hotel for their honeymoon- we never received such thing. Very different experience from our Marriott stay on Maui where we were celebrated greatly for our honeymoon. Will not return back.
Best and most relaxing vacation I’ve had in years. The staff paid attention to even the smallest detail (i.e. housekeeping leaving an extra complimentary bottle of water when they noticed I used both bottles provided, valet being overly courteous about directions/gas refill for rental car return) and went above and beyond. The direct beach access was a must and I highly recommend the on-site spa for massage treatment. My massage and spa experience was the perfect cap to an amazing stay.
Awesome location & Amazing Customer Service
The Moana Surfrider was an amazing place to stay - the location was beautiful, the staff was extremely helpful and overall was just wonderful. We ate at the restaurants and the food & drinks were delicious. The location is the best of all of the hotels we saw. The employees went “above and beyond” to ensure guests had an enjoyable stay.
Good hotel with great location but needs to improve
My husband, 2 of our adult children (3 rooms) stayed at Moana Surfrider. Because of the pandemic, we were happy to stay in one hotel with a beach and just relax for a week. Everything was good except the gym and the hoops we had to jump through to be able to work out daily. There is one under manned main desk that handles all hotel business. To be able to work out, you have to stand in a long line to put your name on the wait list for a spot in the gym. When a spot becomes available, they will call you. Then you have to wait in another long line to get your gym key. After you workout, you have to again stand in a long line to hand in your gym key. I understand that it is tough getting workers to come back to work instead of making more money staying at home, but it costs a lot to stay at this hotel and guests are not getting a good deal here. The gym is well equipped. I was happy to see 2 Pelotons, but they were dirty, dusty and drenched in sweat because no one comes into the gym to clean. However, they do come in often to scold guests to keep their masks on during their entire workout. If you want a decent hotel on the beach, you'll probably have a nice stay. If you are a fitness buff, find another hotel.
