Westin Delivers Great Trip
On our 25th Anniversary trip, we decided on Westin given its location on the best beach in Maui and proximity to restaurants and shopping. We were well aware of reviews that included negatives around construction. Our experience from the south tower floor 5 was that is was background noise and not worth worrying about. However, the north tower is getting a major makeover on the ground floors, so I could see that area being noisy during daytime if you’re close to that. The pools that we’re open we’re fantastic with bar service, even if you have to get your chairs by 7:00 AM before they are all taken, forcing you down to the pool by construction. Hot tub not working. Beautiful views and scenery from pools and rooms. Our room was good, clean and good bed but not recently updated but worked fine, we basically slept there, not much else. Proximity to Whaler’s Village key as only one restaurant open, but you’ll want to eat in Lahaina and Whaler’s Village anyway, too many good restaurants ( Paia Fish Market) to try! We rented a beach cabana one day to experience that and it was fantastic. Wonderful vacation and the price seemed discounted due to construction, but we didn’t really notice it. Would recommend for families as well as kid pool was nice and craft activities are daily to get them out of sun! Pool staff excellent. Valet parking way too expensive so don’t rent a car for more than two days to go to places you want to see (Haleakala sunset, Blowhole, Hana). Workout facilities are in temp area but useful. Good coffee shop for morning. Remember to get to pool early, if it’s full occupancy, there won’t be enough chairs with two pools closed. The new pools will be great when done, looks fantastic and close to being done.
Renovations are huge improvement
Stayed for 2 nights (extended for 1 after great first day). Lobby renovation is beautiful and very well done. Pools were OK for where they are at during renovation. Little girl enjoyed kids pool. Rooms are a bit dated. Service is very good. Recognition of platinum status. No upgrades available as we checked in late but was not an issue. Breakfast had good options. Would recommend. Once renovations are done will be great
worst hotel experience ever
My wife and I were on Maui for a wedding from 10/10/19 - 10/13/19. We were assigned a room, and a promised mountain view. Since we were only on the 4th floor, our view of the mountains was quite obstructed. Instead, our eyes were drawn to the numerous dumpsters in the foreground. We complained about the room and asked to be moved to a better room. After doing battle with the front desk for over an hour, we were finally moved to the 11th floor, and the room was better than what we had first been assigned. During this period, we asked repeatedly to speak to the manager of the hotel and were repeatedly refused. We wanted to know why they assigned us to a horrible room, when the one that we had to fight for was so much better. Parts of the hotel were under construction/renovation, with all the noise and dust that entails. We were not informed that this would be the case when we booked our reservation. With the sole exception of Alva, in housekeeping, every employee we had contact with was rude, surly, or merely indifferent. Jeff was the guy at the front desk who checked us in and assigned us to the horrible room - we asked to speak to him and were always denied. This cancer of indifference was pervasive - which usually means that management has failed miserably. When I responded to their request for feedback, I reported all of this to the hotel. I received a formulaic response, "thank you for your input" and not even an apology for the atrocious experience. We were also quite put off by the fake aloha and "Hawai'ian hospitality". They should be ashamed of themselves, but apparently, don't give a damn about their customers. We will never stay at a Marriott property again.
Friendly staff....hotel has potential
The staff was very friendly and courteous at check in and in other parts of the hotel. However the rooms are small by Westin standards. Bathrooms are small. The doors and closets are basic construction and not worthy of a $400 room! Nice view from the balcony which was the highlight. Construction everywhere with only partial pool areas and temporary facilities throughout the property. Convenient to the shopping center and restaurants next door that you can walk to. Beach right out front. So the hotel has potential, but evaluate it after the renovations are complete. If nothing is done with the rooms it still may not be worth it. There are better properties on Maui. Good thing my stay here was brief.
Do not stay at this hotel
I am a Titanium Platinum mamber and stay in Marriots about 100 days a year. This place is a joke and should be downgraded to a 3 star hotel. Other than the construction going on they have menus in the new rooms where they say they have room service until 11 pm then revert to the late night menu. 8:45 pm and I call to order food and they tell me I have an old menu and they are only serving from the "late night" menue that has a few items that I can usually get at a Couryard Marriott after hours. The bar at the adult pool closes early and no cocktail servers after 530 pm around the pool. 730 pm and you want to order food. You have to walk to the fron and pick up your food. Bartenders are too busy cleaning up and you can tell it is a bother that they serve you an hour before they close. They make you think they are doing you a favor by getting you a drink when they have an hour left to stay open! I stay at Westins and Marriots all over the world and will never stay at this hotel again. This place was horrible a few year ago and thinking they got things handled after a a long stint away and they are still horrible. Paying almost $400 a night and you can't get full room service at 8:45 pm. What a joke. I met the manager this eveing at a meet and greet. She is clueless running a 5 star resort. Skip this place for sure and take if from someone who stay over a 100 days a year. Take your money eslewhere.
