Beautiful hotel and grounds and wonderful staff. They make every effort to get to know you and make you feel at home. Its the second Fairmont we've stayed in and won't be the last. The location is lovely but we found that it was a bit away from the sights we were interested in - the only drawback.
Another fantastic visit to Fairmont
Last year we went to two other properties after coming here four years in a row. Other than the long flight there we love everything about Maui. The Fairmont is a special place. I’ve never stayed anywhere where all the staff make such an effort to make you feel welcome. Starting with Danny the bellman when you get out of the car at checkin to front desk ladies Tammy, Lilliana, and all the other nice ladies that helped us. A special thank you to Stefanie the hostess at Ko and the Breakfast Buffet. She was a sweetheart! Tamantha and Chris were both fantastic servers at breakfast. Queen Ann the hostess from the Phillipines was so friendly and sweet. Olivia at Makana Market was so helpful and made me fresh pizza slices 3 different days. One night when I told her my wife was feeling sick in the room she gave me chicken soup to take up to her. Last but not least a special Mahalo to Gary Sutton for being so helpful with my reservation and making sure we got the same room as last time. We will be back next winter because of all the great hospitality we experienced!
Family friendly great resort and excellent service
We visited this resort with our 8 month old daughter in Feb. 2020. Pros: - travelling with a baby was easy at this hotel. They provided us with a REAL crib, diaper pail, and complementary baby supply gift. The room was also a suite making it easy for our daughter to sleep while we were in the other room. - exceptional service. We have found that the service at a few Fairmonts have decreased when Fairmont was acquired by Accor. This isn’t the case at this hotel. Everyone knew our name and the service was always exceptional. - great pools and resort. Wonderful kids pool and water slide along with an adults only pool. -gym was better than most hotels. Had Peleton bikes that we liked using along with full fitness equipment. - if you want to stay in Wailea, great location. Walking distance to shopping and start of the 2.2km ocean front walk - free parking if you rent a vehicle Cons: - Like most hotels in Maui, food and drinks are expensive. However, you can order an entire pizza from the market cafe for $26, which was excellent. We have stayed at other resorts in Wailea and will definitely stay here again. As nice if not nicer than Four Seasons and more family friendly.
Maintenance and customer service details lets side down.
We stayed in a ocean front villa, which in concept, design and location was wonderful. The welcome and ease of checkin was great. The property is absolutely beautiful, which of course is what you are paying for. Staff were plentiful and mostly very customer service oriented. The villa was laid out nicely and equipped well. A downside was some maintenance issues. The window screens were bent out of shape and the windows themselves were very difficult to open. The toilet seat in one of the bathrooms was loose and you felt that you were going to crash every time you sat down. The housekeeping itself was impeccable. The challenge with the villas is that they are situated in front of a “common area” green where corporate events are held. Be prepared to come back from the beach to find that boxes, ladders and other equipment may be piled at your villa gate. The noise and traffic from the events themselves and the noisy midnight takedowns using beeping golf carts can certainly disrupt you sleep. Not to mention, your view and beach access is greatly disrupted. This is where customer service let the side down, managing the disruption. There were two of these events in the 7 days we were in residence. The breakfast buffet is wonderful, with lots of choice. You can expect to pay close to $60/pp with tip and tax. Poolside menus are in keeping with that. There is of course the resort fee, which does include your parking and free phone calls to Canada and the US mainland. There is a shopping centre and restaurants about a 1/2 hour walk each direction from the hotel. The hotel will shuttle you there as well. The spa was nicely set up and serviced, but pricey. All in all a nice stay, but prefer the Marriott down the beach.
At best a 4*
The hotel is old and the rooms show it. The housekeeping staff can vary from extremely nice to being unfriendly almost and not even crack a smile! When we stayed over spring break it was priced ridiculously high. The four seasons next door didn't seem that luxurious or worth the $$$$ either
