Dated property; terrible beds; good service
We stayed here March 2021 as part of a multi-week Hawaii trip. We were drawn to this property for its supposed luxurious accommodations and beachfront views, as described by the internet & Tripadvisor reviews. What we walked into upon checking in, however, was something very underwhelming and disappointing. If you're used to 4/5-star resorts with beautifully maintained pools, gorgeous amenities, and luxurious beds & bathrooms, then look elsewhere NOW. Pros: - Service was stellar - 5/5: Everyone we interacted with at this property was stellar, not only in terms of their attitude, but also in terms of how well they helped inform us, or to address issues along our stay. Super friendly, helpful, knowledgeable staff. It truly is a shame that the service alone cannot remedy the Cons I'm about to describe. Cons: - Dated rooms: Rooms were small, dark, and have worn-down furniture. Rooms feature dark carpeting and dark walls, making these seaside rooms appear more like motel rooms than a 'luxury resort' room. My SO and I had traveled to three different luxury (5 star) resorts on Maui prior to arriving in Kaua'i, and as soon as we stepped in the room we realized we'd made a huge mistake. - TERRIBLE beds: Beds lacked support in all the critical areas, and the pillows provided were extremely uncomfortable. For a resort at this price point, they should be using above-standard bedding (medium-firm mattress, down pillows); instead, we got a king-sized bed that had no support for the contours of our backs, and synthetic fibre pillows. I could not sleep the 1st night here because of the mattress, which resulted in a terrible 2nd day of activities in Kaua'i. My 2nd night at the resort resulted in terrible neck pains the following day. I'm also a 30-something adult and in my prime, so hopefully that says something. - Zero soundproofing: We could hear everything our neighbors were saying. We were trying to get to bed early during the night, but could not because we could hear the next room neighbors having a conversation very clearly - Bad value for money: For $400+ a night, we got the quality of a sub-$100 a night motel. I felt deceived by their advertising, and the positive reviews on here - Location: This resort is not actually on the beach; rather, if you wanted to go to the beach, you'd need to walk off-property to get to it. Not a fault of the resort's, but it's definitely not well noted on their advertising that this is the case.
Lovely seaside resort hotel
Efficient, friendly staff. Good food on-site. Our ocean view room had a beautiful view and was quite comfortable, but some of the other rooms were much less appealing. Good fitness center for a property of this size. Be aware that resort fees and various taxes and parking fees will add $50-75 a night to your bill. The breakfast package is recommended.
I highly recommend Koa Kea. The staff was incredibly nice. The room and the hotel were clean. They have great stand up showers. The pool is medium sized but it’s nice. Perhaps best, the food at Red Salt is very good.
Run down, friendly service
My friend and I stayed here for 3 nights in February. This was my third time staying in the Poipu area. I wanted to like this boutique hotel, but the property is fairly run down. The beds were comfy, but the furniture in the room were worn. The bathroom was updated though and the nespresso machine (and daily deliveries of new coffee pods and water) were nice. Outside, the property was small but well maintained. Though this is an oceanfront property, there is no beach with the rocks in front. There are beaches a short walk away, however. The only pool has seen better days with missing tiles. We did not bother using it, but we did enjoy the hot tub. The fire pit area was nice. Service was excellent. The people at the front desk were sweet and helpful. The pool bartender was super nice and accommodating. Despite the service, I would not stay here again unless the property gets updated in the future.
Quiet n peaceful
We recently stayed here for our wedding anniversary/vacation. Place is easy to find. No valet, no bell service. Very small place. Easy check in. Very clean room. Did my usual room inspection, pass! Bed inspection passed too. Impressive! We enjoyed our king bed, ocean view room. Nice location. Very convenient to the Spa, just a few doors down. Took advantage of the spa and had massages. We were disappointed the Red Salt restaurant were closed. No breakfast buffet. Rude worker behind the counter left us while we were asking questions. Luckily we brought food and beverages for our room. Didn't see many employees, mostly at the front desk. Very small pool, didn't do any swimming. No beach in front of property. Beaches nearby was not great. Balconies are to close together. Zero privacy. Luckily we didn't have neighbors! Got to see a spectacular sunset! We enjoyed our stay.
