Dubbed Music City for good reason, the state capital of Tennessee is the beating heart of the country music industry. Budding singers and songwriters from all over the United States and beyond have descended on the city seeking fame and fortune since the 1920.
Today you just need to visit the neon-clad honky-tonk bars of Downtown Nashville’s entertainment district to see that the country music scene is as vibrant as it was in the early 20th Century. Must-visit attractions in the city for music fans include the Country Music Hall and the historic Studio B where the likes of Willie Nelson, Dolly Parton and The Everly Brothers recorded songs.
We tried, but we couldn’t choose between the two exclusive inclusions in Nashville so we are just going to tell you about both. Aspiring singers can work with a sound engineer during a 30-minute recording session at the world-famous Studio B and take home a recording. Your immersive day in the capital of country music is rounded off by attending a live taping of the country-music radio concert, the Grand Ole Opry, which is America’s longest running radio show.
Soulful, authentic and original… there’s nowhere quite like the city of Memphis. There has to be something a little bit exceptional about the birthplace of the blues and the place the careers of stars such as Elvis Presley, Johnny Cash and Jerry Lee Lewis began. The city is home to Sun Studio, an icon of the blues and rock ‘n’ roll scene and no visit to the city is complete without stopping by for a tour, or heading out on the town to hear some live music.
There’s no doubting that Elvis’ former home of Graceland is Memphis’ premier attraction. When travelling with Insight Vacations you can enjoy a private, after-hours tour of the house-turned-museum with Elvis' close friend George Klein as your guide. Your unforgettable evening ends with a special dinner in the Graceland complex – a must for all fans of the king of rock ‘n’ roll.
Images of the colonial Deep South come to life in the town of Natchez, which sits on a bluff above the mighty Mississippi River. Restored paddle steamers cruise sedately along the water and more than 600 beautiful antebellum mansions line of the streets – you’ll truly believe you are in one of the oldest settlements along the entire river course.
It’s certainly something special when your home for the night is a National Historic Landmark. The beautiful Monmouth Historic Inn is an early-19th-Century antebellum mansion which is set in grounds of 26 acres of former plantation lands. The traditionally-decorated rooms and suites are located in the main house as well as the collection of outhouses, and the restaurant where you’ll be served dinner is in the mansion.
Like Memphis, New Orleans is soulful; yet it adds to that something extra… there’s a French flair and a celebratory atmosphere that’s hard to match. The famous French Quarter is the part of 'The Big Easy' that we hear the most about and Bourbon Street is undoubtedly one of the South’s most famous entertainment districts.
Amongst other things, New Orleans is known for its jazz music, Mardi Gras celebrations and the abundance of restaurants serving local Louisianan fare. With Insight Vacations, you’ll not only discover more about the origins of this fiery cuisine, you will have the opportunity to learn how to create a few of the most popular creole dishes during a lively cooking demonstration. And then it’s time to taste the creations as part of a Highlight Dinner.
