Cozy and Great Location
For my first trip to Yosemite, this was the perfect place to stay. It was convenient to most trailheads, bike rentals was close by, and the village market was also close. I spent most of my day hiking/outdoors and this was a comfortable lodge to return to. I was nervous at first since I could hear my neighbors talking through the walls; but everyone was asleep at a reasonable time so I slept really well. I loved hearing the sound of Yosemite Falls at night and in the morning. Would def stay here again!
great location but no reserved parking for hotel guests
The best part of the hotel is the location but they do not have hotel only parking and with such limited parking in the park every spot is coveted and everyone parks here to hike the Yosemite Falls . We spoke to the front desk and they could care less. Covid has made it so the shuttles are not operating so gridlock traffic is what we experienced and made us not want to leave our spot once you get a spot, which limits the activities you can do at the park. The price was high and for that you would expect to have a parking spot. Many of the attractions were closed due to covid.
Best location in the park!
We stayed here two nights in the Azalea building room 4621 (falls view) and then finished our stay at Ahwahnee for the final night just to compare. We couldn't get all 3 nights on Spring break at either one so we had to change hotels regardless. We had to book two rooms to fit our family of 5 (only king beds were left) but they made sure to put us right next door to each other since rooms don't connect. We also got an air mattress delivered to the room since they don't do rollaway beds on second floor (no elevator). Our expectations were very low after reading reviews so we were pleasantly surprised. It's a step above camping but you can walk to most of the popular trails. The front desk staff were very friendly and helpful upon check-in. There are decent dining options on-site including a Starbucks! The absolute worst part about this hotel is the uncomfortable mattress. We felt like we were sleeping on a box spring. The heater was making loud cracking noises all night so bring ear plugs. We ran out of hot water and had to wait for the shower to heat up, but again, it's still better than camping in the cold. We will probably stay here next time because staying inside the park is a must for us and we liked this location better than Ahwahnee. If they would just replace the mattresses, we would have given it 5 stars for location alone.
If you're paying to stay inside the park, at least renovate the property once every 50 years.
Yes, you pay a huge premium for a lodge inside the park, and really there are only 2 hotel options. But the least one can expect is some decent rooms. I know it's an older lodge, and don't expect the most modern amenities. 'Rustic' creaking wooden chairs in the rooms? Charming. Dirty carpets, drapes and cracked showers? Not. The in-room heater looked (and sounded) like it was from the 1970s. How difficult is that to replace with a quieter, more efficient one? The room was also very dark, except the bathroom area. A few overhead lights would help. Bed was fine. The slow wi-fi is more annoyance than show-stopper, although the room did have a nice flat-screen TV with all the channels. Check-in staff was very pleasant and happy to give me literature and show me places in the village on the map. Might be because there were no other people checking in at the time and she didn't feel rushed. Still, $283 for a night for a room in this condition is extortionate. Put some of that money back into upgrading the hotel rooms at least.
Perfect stay inside the park
There aren't that many options for lodging inside Yosemite. You're either paying a fortune for a fancy hotel or staying in a campground. We decided to stay at Yosemite Valley Lodge because it was something in between those two options, and we're so glad we did. Despite the log cabin-look on the exterior of the lodge, the inside was surprisingly clean and well-kept. There was nothing fancy about the room, but it was simple, warm, and comfortable. In the morning, we stepped out into the balcony to enjoy the crisp air and beautiful views. The lodge's proximity to the park's attractions is, of course, the best part.
