Nice, convenient lodge in the park but pricey and NO elevator!

We reserved a room but were upgraded to a suite because 2 full tour buses were also staying at the lodge that night (assume they got our room). The upgraded suite was nice and a good value considering we paid the room rate of $238 including all taxes & fees. I noticed in the suite the rate without taxes/fees was listed as $350 night; IMHO it’s not that nice of a suite and I’d never pay that. It was very spacious with 2 beds, a sitting room with a table and 2 chairs as well as a couch and it had a large bathroom; plenty of room for 4 adults though there was only 2 of us. Everything was clean and in working order. The bed was comfortable and we slept fine. The suite came with a window A/C and that kept the entire suite comfortable. Looked like some of the rooms only came with window fans (no A/C) so be aware of that fact. Also the lodge is actually more than 1 building and our building had NO elevator. We had to carry all our luggage up and down the stairs. Luckily we are still strong enough to do it but if you have strength or mobility problems, be sure to get a room on ground level so you do not need to navigate stairs. All in all a nice stay, we’d stay here again and recommended it for the convenience of staying in the park.

Not in the great lodge tradition

If you're seeking the NPS great lodge experience this isn't it, in fact it doesn't exist in Kings/Sequoia. The room was a standard chain hotel configuration, including a small refrigerator and - not common - a comfortable chair to read or relax in. The standout service however, is far from common chain. The lamp in our room was broken. It was fixed ten minutes after calling. Our toilet was plugged, it was unplugged within ten minutes even though we called about 8:00 pm. Food service was very disappointing, severely limited due to COVID. A saving grace, despite the food, was the ability to eat on a deck or in a dining room with large picture windows. Lodge is located well if you want to see Sequoia (but not Kings) and especially all the sites in the south end of the park.

Nice room

Room was nice. No air conditioning, but not a problem at night. The restaurant and registration desk are a bit of a walk from the rooms. Nice benefit: while heading for dinner, several deer were waiting to greet us. Problem: many of the services in the park are scaled back due to lack of staff, leading to subpar meal options.

Great for in-park lodging

We stayed here as a family in June, during the release of covid restrictions in California. The lodge itself in very nice for park service lodging. There is no central air, but even in the heat, the fans and window units worked well and between the altitude and those, we were not uncomfortable at all. If carrying / rolling your luggage is an issue for you, you should know that the parking lot is a very short walk from the buildings. It was in no way problematic for us. The restaurant for the lodge is a very short walk from the rooms, but you can always drive and park down there as well. The food was actually very good; the chefs there clearly can cook. It looses something when eating it as take out for every meal, but that is not the restaurant's fault, just another casualty of covid dining. The restaurant staff was extremely helpful and polite every single time we were there. The front desk staff was polite and accommodating during every interaction. You really can't beat the location for being able to begin your hikes whenever you want in the morning and not having to drive 30 - 40 minutes to get in and out of the park every day. It's not overly posh, but that's not what it's supposed to be. It's a great location, the staff was all helpful and polite, and as long as you keep in mind it's a lodge inside a National Park and not a posh hotel in a major city, you will be going in with reasonable expectations.

Fabulous mountain retreat!

Just spent four nights and had a great experience! We stayed in the Stewart building. Although it was mid 80’s outside we were able to keep the room cool first with the overhead fan and then in the evening we ran the window fan. The fridge had a small freezer compartment to refreeze our cold packs for the cooler each night - bonus! The lodge was close to all the Giant Forest trails and sites - this is by far the easiest way to see everything without having to drive and fight crowds. Ten minutes to most trailheads meant we could get there at 8am and have places to ourselves for awhile. The staff was very helpful, the small store was handy and the Lodgepole market was close by. Also the Peaks restaurant had good food and drinks and was just a short walk from our building. Definitely recommend staying here! Also, we planned to be “unplugged” but surprisingly found we did get a little WiFi in our room haha. Great mountain retreat - come prepared : we brought food and a cooler to have breakfast in our room before leaving for the day and packed lunches and drinks in the cooler to bring with us. Ate dinner at Peaks each night - great way to stay flexible and save some money and time - very relaxing!
