Great place to stay in San Diego
Beautiful building, great staff, clean rooms and a pool bar! All in the Gaslight district. DJ behind the desk, checked me in and was always helpful. Inside the hotel is a coffee stand, the gentleman running it was very helpful for locals dining areas and things to do. Did I mention Valet parking?
Great Place to Stay
Good location and access. The room was cleaned every day and new towels set out. Everything in hotel room was fully functional. The concierge desk was very helpful and the employees were very friendly.
Solamar Hotel in San Diego
Great location in downtown San Diego. Staff was very helpful, friendly, and professional. The rooms and bathrooms are spacious. The outdoor pool and patio are beautiful. I am used to the impeccable standards I experience at Kimpton Hotels since I started staying at their properties in the late 1990s. However, I was disappointed with the overall cleanliness of the bathroom. The shampoo/body wash/conditioner pumps in the shower were rusty. There were a few hairs in the bathtub. There was a tiny spot of blood on the shower curtain. And the sink and shower grout had mildew stains. The room itself was clean and well appointed. I was at the hotel for a conference. The hotel provided lunch and dinner. The food was very good for conference/hotel food and I was very pleased.
Hands down a fantastic experience!
This is my 2nd trip San Diego for business and the cleaning staff was fantastic. Room exceeded my expectations and the staff was genuinely nice and attentive to my needs. Front desk staff was nothing short of 5 stars as well from check-in to check-out!
Did the trick
Planned my Christmas 2019 holiday and opted for this Kimpton hotel, figuring good proximity to harbour, transit options, theatre etc. Room was decent enough, ours with 2 Queens and closet/safe, dresser, dining table etc. But given that 2 guests are booked in, I’m always amazed at the lack of toiletries provided. Staff were friendly enough and there was a complementary morning coffee/tea service from 7am (can’t recall end time, likely 10am). Noticed that there was hot chocolate (a nice change and also an unusually chilly time in SD, so seemed appropriate). I had a longer stay than most but only managed to get hot chocolate a few times. At 730-8am, it would be all gone and no sign of another thermos being brought out anytime soon. The ground level had a restaurant and the roof/pool level had a bar/menu. Nothing too appealing in roof menu and definitely over priced. The hotel was prompt and prepared for my request of a coffee maker in the room and an iPhone charger. States that yoga mats are always provided in each room but I had to request one. Location wise, I think I would have preferred another area to Gaslamp Quarter but that’s no fault of Solamar. Overall a decent stay.
