My family and I just left the resort after a three day stay. Before arriving, I was nervous as I had read some negative reviews, but decided to give the hotel a chance and I am glad I did. The hotel is now under new management and had just hired a new Chef. The grounds are gorgeous and the best part is that you don’t have to leave the resort as they have all the activities right there. We have 4 young kids and they enjoy the barn and the complimentary pony rides- the staff at the barn was great! We swam in the pool, played in the river and a highlight of the trip was a family UVY ride through the mountains. The food and drinks were good and outdoor restaurant scenery was beautiful. The hotel did everything they could to make our stay enjoyable. The only con would be the rooms- They are very dated and the bathrooms need to be redone. I would recommend the hotel my friends and stay at it again!
We LOVE Sorrel!
Sorrel River Ranch is THE place to stay while visiting Arches National Park and Canyonlands National Park in Moab! We had the most wonderful experience here. All of the staff are super friendly, but we especially loved Sebastian, who bartended. Andrew and Max were great to work with when trying to figure out the best spots to hit at the National parks. Max took us on a sunset cruise at Arches- what a wonderful experience that was! We will definitely be back!
Great Location and nice resort
My wife and I came here for three nights and stayed in a king cottage suite. The room was fine, comfortable and spotless, although a bit tired. The view of the river and mountains were simply amazing. The property was lovely, though we didn’t use the pool or participate in any of the activities. There are many wonderful activities to take advantage of - some complementary and some for a fee. The restaurant was super excellent. Service and food fantastic (especially the server Riley). Overall, the service at the resort was very good. Matthew, at check in was amazing. Welcomed us and was very accommodating. However, I was very disappointed upon getting a copy of my bill the night before checking out. We paid for the bed and breakfast rate and upon receiving a copy of my bill, which I reviewed back at my room, all of the breakfasts were on the bill. So I called the front desk and the man at the desk said they usually correct the bill when checking out... really...? Why be delayed and inconvenienced at check out? So I asked him to correct the bill while on the phone and he questioned whether I had the B&B rate, that he wasn’t able to access this information at the front desk, only the “marketing” department could. Ugh. So I pulled up the confirmation email the resort sent me and gave him the conf number... that didn’t help. I had to email him a copy of the reservation so he would know what we actually paid for. What a hassle. A resort of this ilk should not be this disorganized. It’s a pretty expensive place, on the edge of being overpriced, so it is critical they overcompensate in other ways to gain the value. As I said, on the edge of being a bit high for what you get. But the view, location, food and most of the service is quite good. We very much enjoyed our time at Sorrel. A few other tips: Location is about 20 minutes from downtown Moab, which is a super fun place to explore. Go to the Garage for lunch - outstanding in every way! Also highly recommend going to Sand Flats Recreation area for mountain biking, hiking or off road four wheeling. It’s an adventurer’s paradise. Same with Arches National Park. Moab is one of our favorite places. Been here twice this summer and will be back again next year. Go!!
We had heard about the Ranch from friends who stayed there years ago. My wife and I needed a break from the Az heat and booked at the ranch. I was surprised by the room rates but figured it would be worth it based on location. We paid for an upgraded upstairs room with a nice view. All rooms have good views from what I can tell but the overall condition of our room was severely outdated and poorly maintained. Dust and cobwebs everywhere, carpet that was ripples in the middle of the floor (accident waiting to happen!), outside furniture on the balcony hasn’t been wiped down in months and windows in need of a good cleaning. All understandable if the room cost was a fraction of the $1000/night! 😳 TV had poor cable connection so only had access to a few channels (not that I was there to watch TV) but despite asking them to check on it, nothing changed. Outdoor pool deck has t been hosed off in forever making walking around the pool a bit nasty on the feet. Sat at the pool for almost two hours and no service in site to offer a bar or food order. Also understandable if a 3 star place. We had a blast in Moab and all that there is to offer. This Ranch has such potential but needs new management and a lot of love to justify the cost. Highlights were location, JJs mercantile (should open before 8 am to accommodate the get up and go type of vacation), restaurant servers were nice, and the drive to and from town along the river was beautiful.
Price point not in line with facilities & service
While located in a scenic valley with almost 365 degree views, Sorrel River Ranch is not a luxury property so please don't be fooled by pictures and marketing. It is on a truly gorgeous winding stretch of highway along the Colorado River but be aware it is 30+ minutes to Moab (or 40 minutes to Arches Nat'l Park) and would not recommend driving back late after dinner. Accommodations are not to 4+-5 star scale from a furnishings nor amenities perspective. While the room would be considered 'clean', a lot of small missed maintenance and upkeep items are reflected in my rating. Doors did not latch properly, dust and insects in the window sills behind blinds, plugs that didn't work, etc. Also concerning, exterior porches and public areas were not kept to luxury standards - obviously hadn't been blown or swept off, stray service items in shrubs along outdoor seating. The pool area COULD have been a big sell as view was really nice and convenient to all cabins ... but the exterior walls of the lodge and the area surrounding towel stands and water station were infested with spiders and their webs. Further, the pool did not have a rotating service/support person and used towels and trash were not removed over 4+ hour period. Food quality was above average and portion sizes good though menu was not particularly expansive; however, prices were in line with expectations based on its distance from supply chain. You can order from the lunch menu until 5pm for a late lunch/early supper which set us up to enjoy drinks and snacks on a blanket for sunset.
