The Sands Khao Lak by Katathani

Quiet zones and family fun

A charming tropical resort with a dedicated family wing and a pretty koi-filled lagoon.

Fringed by warm golden sands and enveloped by coconut groves, The Sands Khao Lak is a welcoming and spacious beach resort with a warm, friendly atmosphere. With the shops of Khao Lak right on its doorstep, this is the ideal location for couples and families to enjoy beach life and be immersed in local culture. For a change from the golden sands of Nang Thong Beach, take a dip in one of the nine pools or relax in the Jacuzzi. There are plenty of leisure activities, with a tennis court on-site, as well as a health walk programme and classes including Thai boxing.

Three outstanding restaurants form the centrepiece of the resort. The Floating Market overlooks a natural lagoon, and for freshly caught seafood, take a seat in the Talay Restaurant and absorb the aromas and flavours in a pretty beachfront setting. In the family-friendly Aqua Wing there's fuss-free dining with the kids at Manta Ray Bistro. For something to quench your thirst, there are four bars to choose from including the swim-up pool bar, Coconut Bar.

The Floating Market
Overlooking a natural lagoon and inspired by the iconic floating markets, the hotel's main restaurant offers a huge range of international dishes.

Talay Restaurant
Set on the beach and serving delicious fresh fish every day.

Manta Ray Bistro
Located in the Aqua Wing, this bistro is great for all-day casual dining and features kids' favourites.

Coconut Bar
The swim up bar for refreshments between lengths.

Mango Bar
Located next to the Floating Market Restaurant, the Mango Bar offers evening entertainment.

Pineapple Bar
The popular spot for drinks in front of the lobby.

Jellyfish Bar
A great venue in the water for all of the family.

If you're looking for a more intimate experience, a romantic dinner on the beach is easily arranged.

The Spa’s five private treatment rooms are set in the natural stone and wooden surroundings with serene views of the adjacent lagoon for a relaxing and rejuvenating holistic experience.

Beach volleyball, pétanque, tennis and table tennis are just some of the activities at the resort. Guests can also join lessons in Thai boxing, cooking classes, vegetable carving and cocktail making.

With nine swimming pools, a lazy river, Jacuzzis and water slides, there's plenty here for water babies of all ages. There is also a lovely stretch of beach here.

The Katathani Collection are committed to protecting the environment and have policies to reduce, recycle and reuse. Every month there is a big beach clean and through their 'Environmental Detective' programme they are educating local students to commit to sustainable development.

The kids’ club here is brilliant, and it’s free. There’s a ball pit and trampoline, a cozy book corner, arts and crafts stations and a big outdoor playground. The list of activities is really varied, too – we love the Thai dancing and basic Thai language sessions. Look out for the movie nights on Thursdays and Saturdays.

Sands Rooms are a good option for families as they’re available as interconnecting rooms to create more space. They overlook the lagoon or gardens. If you want to be in the heart of the Aqua Wing, on the other hand, we recommend the Family Rooms. These sleep four and have a living room that becomes a children’s sleeping area thanks to pull-out beds and a partition. You’ve also got the option of booking a Family Room with direct pool access. For older children, we love the Two Bedroom Teen Suites. They have two separate bedrooms, two bathrooms and sleep up to two adults plus three children in bunks and a sofa bed.

Minimum age 4 in Pool Access Junior Suites.

Compulsory New Year’s Eve gala dinner, supplement applies.
