Super Place to Stay in Stone Town
The park Hyatt is very centrally located to the major sites in Stone Town. All are within an easy walking distance, The hotel itself is quite beautiful and has a great situation on the water overlooking the harbor. Service in the hotel is excellent. this is particularly true in the Dining Room. We enjoyed a great breakfast buffet every morning. And two dinners. All were memorable. We sat on the veranda overlooking the beach and harbor...magic. I must also say that our room was large and well appointed. very comfortable with a small veranda over looking the city view. The furniture was a little too large for the veranda but this is a small point. My wife and I very much enjoyed our visit to the Park Hyatt.
The hotel is right on the beach with great view to the bay, located near good restaurants and a walking distance from the shops and local market, spacious room and great bathroom, equipped with a shower and a beautiful bath. Loved the breakfast!
Nicest Hotel in Stonetown!
After traveling in the Mara, and on our way to Ruaha NP, this was a welcomed place to relax and enjoy Stonetown. The staff were very nice and accommodating. My only knock would be that the juices can be hit or miss, particularly those made with vegetables. The fruit juices were good, but once we ventured into having the staff made juices with vegetables, the flavors were off (likely just an experienced staffer). The beach and pool area are nice and a great place to watch the sunset and the locals having a good time. The room was very clean, new feeling and luxurious. We had a city-view room, which was cool because you got to experience Stonetown a little more than having a seaview room. Culturally, Stonetown is a great place to visit for a couple days. We stayed at the Park Hyatt for three nights and walked everywhere. We area family of four with 2 children (4 and 1) and felt relatively safe walking at night - one night we walked about 1 mile to a restaurant on the edge of stonetown. All was good, but you do have to be careful with the cars and mopeds, as there is often no sidewalk.
Great view and wonderful staff members at the bar/ lounge. Christopher and Valentino were very friendly and helped me learn some swahili and told me great places to go in stone town. Overall a wonderful experience.
Nice for the area, but not a typical Park Hyatt
Stayed here for 3 days as a relaxing break between a safari and a scuba diving trip. Below is my usual format: Good: - Gym has new equipment and full amenities (water, towel, etc) - Unique architecture with many places to roam (I wandered for an hour in all the rooms and courtyards). - Service was very attentive and I never felt rushed - Pool has a great view over the ocean (but it does face the public beach which is very busy). The glass wall also was not cleaned which ruined the view a bit. - Full in-room bath toiletries and huge towels - Large and varied breakfast buffet Bad: - Strong musty smell in the room - The patio area is a nice place to sit, but there is constantly techno music being played on the speakers, which got annoying - My balcony on the 2nd floor was drown in a bright spotlight - very annoying at night - The internet was very unreliable - The power went out a few times during my stay - Housekeeping didn't refill water/tea - The hairdryer was broken - All the room lights controlled on the same switch (all lights or no lights: nothing in-between) - The bed had no flat sheet -- just a duvet - Very pricey food, especially when server would only serve me bottled water (I asked for tap water as the water is safe to drink and provided in room as well). - Staff addressed my male partner as a priority, even though I am the Hyatt member (which was never recognized) and I reserved/paid for the trip. - The pool was somewhat nice (see reference above), but given the proximity to a public beach, I always felt on-display. Overall, I'm sure this is a nice hotel for the area, but it is not up to typical Park Hyatt standards and definitely not 5-star. The location is convenient to the airport, so I only recommend it as a stop-over.
