wonderful villas; great location; not crowded; every evening different fantastic food; super friendly staff; cozy for couples and very comfortable for families with children. Good local entertainment with dance and music, very appreciable.
Spoiled by selfish, music-playing guests
Our stay was spoiled by a family who brought their beat-box to sunbathe. They had the next door villa to us, so they were allocated (as is the way of the hotel) the next door sun-parasol to us. The heavy throb of their music completely spoiled our ability to chill out on our terrace or plunge pool, or under our parasol. The Manager spoke to them, but they just turned the music back up once he had walked away - although he then came over to us to explain what he had done, thereby revealing to the family who had complained! The Manager suggested we might move to a different parasol along the beach, but this didn't solve being able to hear the throb from our bungalow. The following day, a bungalow was found for us at Zawadi (see review), so we moved. We were very grateful for the move that day, but it was a shame, the management didn't nip the problem in the bud sooner, such as saying 'no beat-boxes'. They have, for example, amended their 'all inclusive' rules so that drinks consumed from the mini-bar are now no longer free!! So they could easily create a new rule about beat-boxes. Interestingly enough, when we arrived to check in to Baraza, a female guest was shouting at the Manager for something that had gone wrong. Her repeated comment was, 'but that's just not fair.' It was never clear what her complaint was about, but within 4 hours, I was having exactly the same kind of conversation with the Manager - despite paying $1,500 a night, we were being disturbed by the selfish behaviour of other guests. Baraza is architecturally beautiful, but if the guests are loud or selfish, it doesn't really matter how attractive the decor.
A wonderful escapist retreat!
We spent a week at this beautiful resort on the East coast of Zanzibar. At the start of our stay, because of Covid and low occupancy, they were using a skeleton staff and you could tell that management had taken the decision to limit options in order to maintain a high standard of what was on offer. Then, during our stay, as occupancy increased, more staff and options became available all of a high quality. I appreciated this approach because it prioritized quality over quantity. We were a family and as the week advanced, more and more families joined us. In the end, the pool became crowded, such that adult couples might have found it a bit noisy. For them, the same hotel group offers Palms or the Zawadi.
Luxurious place with beautiful green gardens which we chose after safari trip. We are quite allergic to many foods and our friends recommended that they take very good care of that and so it was, they knew since the beginning what we ate or not and always recommended or prepared personalised dishes for us, we felt pampered in many ways starting to attention, their cuisine. We got more of what we expected.
Great traveling experience
This boutique resort is absolutely to be recommended in white sandy beaches of Zanzibar. Excellent customer services from all staff members. Cuisine couldn't be better. Arabic surroundings, most beautiful villas & very spacious as well as private. Also great for kite-surf lovers, diving, snorkeling is an absolute must there. 5star+ ranking more than deserved, and thanks to the whole team and the manager for an absolutely fabulous honeymoon!
