Property smells due to animals
Hyraxes are everywhere. While they're cute, they pee and poop all over - especially right outside the rooms. While staff hoses the property down every day, it still smells. I had a room on the 2nd floor which was really hot. There was a fan in the room, but no breeze could get through the mosquito nets. Rooms were very dark. Bathroom was small with no place to hang or store anything. Hot water restricted to 5-10am and 5-10pm. However, each room had bathrobes. Nice pool. Good service. Did not care for the food. Very few vegetarian options. Power goes off in the middle of the night. Setting in the wild. Escorts needed after dark. Heard Hyenas. Saw Warthogs and Antelope on property.
Nice visit but terrible road
We visited in shoulder season which should have been dry. However it had rained from October without a break. This lodge is quite near the river, meaning it is fairly low and because of the weather the area was extremely wet. Our driver had a very hard job getting to the lodge, next day we got stuck and had to be dragged out by tractor. Presumably thus would not be an issue at other times and particularly in the dry season. More bugs due to the closeness to the river. Lodge was a bit tired and there was no great view but staff very friendly and food was fine. No great criticisms, but research the weather conditions and affect on wildlife before booking.
Nice place but...
Nice place to stay. Friendly staff, wonderful restaurant and the pool is outstanding. But.. Terrible WIFI service even in the main lobby and bar/restaurant area. Also the rooms were very hot for sleeping. I cannot imagine how hot they would be during the summer season. Fan in the room but poor ventilation just circulates the hot air. Fan above the beds is too slow to work effectively.
A natural beauty in Tarangire
We stayed at Tarangire Sopa during our safari and we are still talking about it two weeks later. While the rooms are not the most modern we have stayed in, we found them to be well appointed and comfortable. One day we came back to our room and 4 monkeys were sitting on our patio furniture. The next day, we spent all day on safari searching for cats only to find lions and their cubs only a few hundred meters from the gate. You are in the heart of it all here! Not to mention we felt very safe here, as Solum walked us back to our room after dinner every night. He remembered our names throughout our stay and even waited to say goodbye to us our final morning. Lillian also took great care of us at all meals. The food here was our favorite. Our group really enjoyed the evening songs and the night we had barbecue. It was a treat! WiFi is only available in the main reception area and restaurant. This did not take away from our experience, it merely enhanced it and made more time for our enjoyment of the property. Thank you Tarangire Sopa, we will be back!
Solid safari lodge, nice facility
The Sopa lodge is a very nice place to stay in Tarangire National Park. The food, for the most part, was excellent - unlike other Sopa lodges the Tarangire Sopa Lodge is able to prepare meat properly and not over cook it. A minor nit - while the lodge provides 4 bottles of water in each room each day, they charge extra for water at the table. I know this is petty to remark about, but it is also petty the lodge charges $2 for a large bottle of water when they give water in the room. The rooms are well appointed and spacious and the staff is very friendly. Unfortunately there are hot water hours. For a large this large and luxurious they should have hot water at any time. The Sopa could earn 5 stars by fixing these fews minor problems.
