Elephants and Extravagance
My wife and I stayed at Mpingo Ridge in January for what was the final leg of our wedding and honeymoon trip. I believe that most people tend to start with safari when travelling to Africa, the idea being that one would probably require the relaxation after what can be a hectic and often intense experience. And whilst our time in Tarangire was both of the former, Mpingo Ridge and it’s staff ensured that it was also THE most tranquil and luxurious stay you could possibly have in the bush. The lodge itself is everything you see in the photos and more. From your bed, breakfast table, bar, pool and even toilet, the views are utterly breathtaking. You will never tire of them, nor will you ever forget them. Amenities are 5 star, with furnishings, fixtures and fittings very tasteful throughout. The bed is huge and almost too comfortable, an essential for catching up on sleep after a full day on the road. We particularly enjoyed unwinding at the pool with a drink and a pair of binoculars whilst discussing the highlights of the last game drive. Returning to a spotlessly clean room up to three times a day made it easy to forget that we were actually situated in the heart of a remote wilderness and not some bustling luxurious resort. A credit to Nickson here. I must admit that we had minimal complaints regarding food whilst in Tanzania and Mpingo Ridge did not buck the trend. Each and every meal was fantastic, with quality produce used and great variety on offer every day. True compliments to the chef. They even catered for our request of traditional cuisine on the final night, which turned out to be my most enjoyable meal of the entire trip. This was accompanied by a leaving song / dance involving all the staff, a really lovely touch. Unfortunately for the staff and Lemala but rather fortuitously for us, we were at times the only guests at the lodge. This meant that they went above and beyond the norm to take care of us, ensuring that all of our wants and needs were dealt with before we had even thought of them! Even at capacity, the levels of professionalism at this place would remain sky high. A special thanks to Atanus and Michael, who would always made sure we were well fed and hydrated (dawa cocktails are a must). They were a real genuine pleasure to spend time with. Another mention to the manager Greg, who ran a tight ship and is clearly very experienced in the hospitality game. His attention to detail is second to none and he’ll always be on hand to assist with anything during your stay. Like the rest of the team, Greg will take the time out to chill and unwind with you, which made our trip that much more personable. Last but by no means least (save the best to last 😁), the biggest thank you to our safari guide, Steve. Since a very young age I have been truly fascinated with wildlife, constantly watching and learning, forever trying to broaden my knowledge. To spend just one afternoon with Steve in the open sided truck would be the equivalent of a years worth of studying for me! His understanding on all aspects of the park, from fauna to birds, reptiles to the more famous mammals, was second to none. He will put you in the best possible spots to maximise your chances of seeing the amazing life that Tarangire has to offer. And luckily we did. He was extremely patient and detailed in his answers to my thousands of daily questions, even quizzing us at the close of each drive. Most importantly, Steve will always have your comfort and safety as priority, something that cannot be taken for granted, especially not the cold bottle(s) of Kilimanjaro at lunchtime.. Please trust me and enhance your safari experience by requesting for Steven James to be your guide, I promise that you will not regret it! Big love and big thanks to you all at Mpingo Ridge, we shall see you again soon.
The Best View!
Wow! As soon as you walk into Mpingo Ridge the view will take your breath away, it is absolutely incredible. Bring your binoculars to breakfast and lunch for bird watching and because there is a good chance you will also spot elephants walking by down below (we got to see them heading to the river for a drink during lunch). The lodge is 5 star all around, beautiful rooms, great food, friendly staff. We loved our stay here and would highly recommend this place to anyone looking to visit Tarangire. We also booked a night game drive and are so glad we did, it was such a great experience. We saw so many amazing nocturnal animals: bush babies, bat eared fox, hyenas, genets, chameleons, etc.
My wife and I stayed here during our safari for our honeymoon. This was ultimate luxury. One of the most beautiful hotels we have ever stayed it. The view over Tarangire park is absolutely breathtaking. We wish we could have stayed longer, but we had to continue our trip. If you have the opportunity to say here, please do!! Also Tarangire park is stunning!
Absolutely sublime in every way!
Lemala Mpingo Ridge was the last stop on our 6 night safari and it was perfect to end at such a special lodge where one literally feels like one is on top of the world! Although it’s not traditional to end a Tanzanian safari in Tarangire, it suited us perfectly to end on a luxurious high note. The situation and location of the lodge is incredible with sweeping views at every turn. The villas are spacious and luxurious, couldn’t ask for more. Taking a bubble bath outside while watching elephants through binos was a top life moment!! In fact it’s best to keep binos close by at all times as elephants can be spotted from the bed, from the pool, everywhere! It’s truly a spectacular experience. The staff at all Lemala camps we stayed at were top notch and so were the team at Mpingo Ridge. They were attentive and happy to suggest delicious treats like their house cocktail. Would recommend this lodge without hesitation to anyone!
Simply wonderful experience.
Spent two nights here while visiting Tarangire. Wonderful hotel. Private, luxurious bungalow overlooking the park. Was able to take a bubble bath and see elephants and giraffes below! The food was excellent, consistently. Apart from the view, the best feature was the staff. Attentive, gracious, and extremely professional. On a pandemic note, they observed social distancing, wore masks, and put is at ease. Go for the elephants, but stay at Lemala.
