So far into the Serengeti but so wonderfully comfortable
We missed not a thing in service or comfort here. The lodge's supply logistics must be challenging due to the 'roads' and distance from Arusha. Individual highly comfortable chalets and a well equipped main area with bar and restaurant leave nothing to be desired. Dinner & breakfast were excellent with good service in a pleasant atmosphere. The bar area had entertainment. For a moment one could forget the desirable remoteness of the lodge. Luggage service to and from the chalets is amazing. In the morning staff waits outside in a distance and grab your suitcase the moment you open your door. I never called anyone - they were just there and I was not permitted to carry my own luggage. At night we got accompanied by staff to our rooms. Loved this place.
Perfect place inside the wild nature
This camp lodge was amazing. The animals are running over the camp during night and day, Pumbas, giraffes, Buffalos' and lions are everywhere. The breakfast and dinner service extremely delicious, foods are very tasty and catering services are well experienced. The view from hotel is amazing as it is located on the top of the hill, therefore amazing for photography. We precooked a special sundown from hotel in the middle of Serengeti which is an unforgettable momment with drinks and foods and close to the wild animals with the staff. Thank you to be a part of this.
Spectacular Serengeti Lodge
Our room at Serengeti Serena Safari Lodge was spectacular. We sat on our balcony overlooking the Serengeti plains below and watched wildebeest walking single file to water along with zebras, gazelles, giraffes, Cape buffalo and not far away two lions laying in the shade observing everything. The room had great decor was clean, and very comfortable. The restaurant, lounge, and lobby were nice and the pool was too. Couldn't ask for better!
Enjoyable stay in a great room
On our recent multi-week safari (independent - not in a tour group) we decided to stay in Serena or Sopa lodges at the national parks and game reserve we visited. We were well aware of the arguments that were made not to stay at this type of accommodations (tour groups, not a true African experience (tented safari), not exclusive, not an "Out of Africa" experience, etc...). Notwithstanding those concerns, that is what we did and we were happy with our choices. We got a consistent level of service (I'd say 4 stars - with some specific observations for each location) So I will start my review of each of the Serena and Sopa lodges with the above disclosure and then offer specific feed back for each property in the appropriate TA spot for the hotel location. The Serengeti Serena Lodge Room: The room was large, clean and was comfortable. Nicely decorated with Massi motifs. It was the largest room we had in our stays at Serena or Sopa lodges in Tanzania's northern national parks circuit. The room had a view of some of the lodge grounds and views of the plain. The room had a small balcony with a couple of chairs. The rooms were in buildings that had rondoval-type architecture that added to the ambiance of the lodge. Service: We had a good check-in experience and staff were generally very competent and professional through-out our stay. Our house keeper worked hard to care for our room and we enjoyed our brief interactions with her when our paths intersected. Dining: Breakfast and dinner buffets were very good in terms of what they offered and quality. The offerings were mostly on the western side not local food. Both breakfast and dinner buffets had some Indian foods and the dinner buffet had some really good deserts. The simpler deserts were generally much better. The breakfast buffet had excellent mandazi (Tanzanian fry bread or donuts) and barazi (pigeon peas in coconut sauce). Yum! We had one "hot lunch" (as opposed to a box lunch while out on safari). a la carte fish and chips were excellent, We had a table for 2 and assigned the same server for our all meals. Our server was excellent - made us feel that we are only table in a full dining room. . Other observations: There were several larger groups and a couple of smaller groups during our stay. While we did not experience any direct effects - that is service or wait time for anything were not impacted - one got the sense that the staff was working at full speed to keep things going well. WiFi is available in rooms. Speed was very good. Complimentary tea, coffee and cookies are available at a self service table on one side of the bar area. We enjoyed our stay and would stay here again.
A great location
Great rooms and woke up first morning with giraffe right outside our door. Staff were very friendly and efficient. Breakfast was great - especially the egg chef - real poached eggs with a lovely smile! Dinner was good if menu a little limited - this was our third Serena hotel on our trip and menu was very similar- but having travelled through Serengeti we can understand the logistics of supply chain - quality of food was excellent! We had picnic lunch and all 9 of us loved our boxes! Would highly recommend a stay here. Be warned that there is no perimeter fence so always escorted to and from room in hours of darkness - which adds to the excitement !
