Ngorongoro and serengeti National Park
Ngorogoro is a world heritage site, it is an unbelievable area where the animals that reside there rarely leave that crater. They have their very own private jungle. The beauty of this place is how lush and green it is. The Serena Lodge is located in a beautiful tip of the crater, so you can look into the crater in the morning and almost be above the clouds ! At Serengeti , we also stayed at the Serena Lodge. The accommodation is separate villas, each block has 3 apartments and after 7pm guests have to be escorted to and fro as wild life can wander in quite easily. Seeing the big 5, was just amazing, driving for up to an hour or longer then suddenly coming across these wild animals, who seem quite at home with these land cruisers going by or stopping to view them. Our trip was arranged by Aruna and Mary of Safarini tours and safaris company. They looked after us through out the trip and were able to keep us informed on the outside world during this coronavirus stage. They met us on arrival in Arusha and again at departure. We would definitely use this company again as they are based in Arusha and have all the current information of animal viewing etc.
Good not Great
Awesome architecture! Really nice (female-sorry didn't get her name) chef who smiled and made everyone else smile! Location seemed FAR from getting back to the 'main' road (at least 8 km). Nice view. Serena was my 2nd favorite hotel chain with SOROVA being my favorite for service with a smile. Wasn't enamored with their night entertainment; pushy with CD sales. No in-room WiFi. Critique also would be the beds are very hard. Have them make a mattress-topper improvisation where they stuff blankets under the fitted sheet.
Cuisine and Comfort in the middle of Nowhere.
This was my third stay at the Serengeti Serena. The cottages are very comfortable with wonderful views and great comfort. It's odd however, when one must ask to be accompanied to the main lodge when it's dark due to potential four-legged "visitors". The chefs here really know how to cook and serve food as the variety of options on the buffet is awesome. Plus they are always grilling something wonderful right before your eyes. We enjoyed game runs and a hot air balloon ride over the Serengeti at dawn which is in itself a spiritual experience.
Only the best at Serengeti Serena
We stayed at several Serena properties during our safari and the Serengeti property will always be memorable. The view from the balcony of our room was amazing. We spent an afternoon watching the wildlife with our binoculars. If you want to see the African sunsets everyone talks about, this is the place. We really enjoyed the food and warm welcome. The pool was also very nice after a long game drive. To top it off, we had a surprise elopement and everything was amazing. Many thanks to John, Stanley, the band and the rest of the team for making it such a memorable night. This team goes above and beyond for their guests. They even made my husbands favorite cake, provided appetizers, and entertainment on short notice. We will definitely be back and cannot thank everyone enough for their hospitality! We also took advantage of booking a ballon ride with Serengeti Balloon Safaris (you can find a rep in the bar area). It’s spendy but well worth it!
Nice safari lodge but....
This is our third Serena Hotel in Tanzania on this trip. By far this is the best if the 3 that we have stayed at. Nice decor, very friendly staff including John the Food and Beverage Manager. The rooms are unique, nice and with awesome views. The restaurant buffets are great. However the security of the rooms is terrible. No wonder all the staff keep saying put your valuables in the safe as I am sure they have security issues. The door locks use a key system from the 1940’s or later. After coming home from a long day safari we we accidentally went to the room next to ours and our key opened the room. We walked in and our luggage was not there before we realized we walked into the wrong room. Funny our friends who are in the room next to used their key to open our room. All the Serena hotels we have stayed at use the same key lock system and while I have not tested this assumption, I bet any key from any hotel will open every room from every hotel
