Serengeti Bushtops: your five-star safari camp

Each tent opens on two sides to showcase Serengeti views and has a wooden deck with a sunken lounge area and bubbling hot tub…

By Pantaleo Mghanga
Camp Manager, Serengeti Bushtops

Experience Tanzania’s iconic wild animals and landscapes at Serengeti Bushtops. Our luxurious tented camp lies in a prime position on the northern circuit of Serengeti National Park. The area is world-famous for its exciting river crossings during the Great Migration, where huge crocodiles wrestle herds of wildebeest and zebra. We’re set on a hilltop facing a river valley, so you can enjoy incredible panoramic views of the acacia-spotted plains, especially at sunset.

Bushtops was built in 2010 to share the Serengeti’s magical wildlife with guests. We were one of the first permanent camps in the area and are proud to offer the most impressive en-suite safari tents, named after African animals. Each tent opens on two sides to showcase the views and has a wooden deck with a sunken lounge area, outdoor shower and hot tub. Enjoy five-star touches like a 24-hour butler service and a hot water bottle placed in your bed during turn-down service.

Morning, afternoon and all-day game drives take centre stage at Bushtops. Our custom-designed Toyota 4x4s provide superb views and allow us to get close to the drama of the Serengeti. You’ll be accompanied by a qualified driver-guide, as well as a spotter from the local Kuria tribe. By employing Kuria tribesmen, Bushtops offers them an alternative to their only other viable source of income: poaching. This initiative has been a real community and conservation success story. Aside from providing job opportunities, Bushtops also helps the local community by supporting Bisalalah Primary School.

During game drives, you can expect to see top predators like big cats and hyenas, particularly in the mornings when they’re likely to be out hunting. You’ll also spot everything from buffaloes and elephants to giraffes, impalas, hippos and all kinds of African birds. The northern Serengeti has a healthy population of endangered black rhinos too, so you stand a good chance of glimpsing this rare member of the Big Five. Of course, during the Great Migration between June and November, you’ll see herds of wildebeest and zebra, who cross at 11 nearby points along the river.

When you’re not out on game drives, cool off in our pool or have a relaxing treatment in the spa. Our food is a highlight as we serve gourmet, à la carte meals paired with fine wines. Dine when and where you like (there are no fixed meal times) and for a special treat, book a bush breakfast or a meal at Klipspringer, an atmospheric rock amphitheatre. Guests enjoy our private sundowners at Simba’s Rock and then swapping stories around the fire back at camp. It’s a beautiful way to end the day.
