We have just returned from our amazing trip to Tanzania celebrating our 50th Wedding Anniversary. We started our journey at Selous Kulinda Camp which was the most magical experience - Samou the Manager leads a highly efficient and professional team with extremely high standards of service and cleanliness. Our tent was very spacious, very well equipped comfortable and exceptionally clean - nice little touches like flowers and palm leaves in the bedroom too. We were the only 2 people at the camp for 2 days and we were treated like royalty by all the staff. When Samou found out we were celebrating our golden wedding anniversary he said he wanted to do something special for us and the following night we were upgraded to a private pool tent with an amazing view. We were very touched by his kindness. All the staff are wonderful and do a marvellous job. Our waiter Sultani with his brilliant english and smile always making sure we had everything we needed - Charlie the chef (who made us a delicious chocolate cake complete with iced message!) and fed us so well. Francis our Guide/Driver always so knowledgeable and well informed about all the animals, birds and flowers. He tried very hard to find us the Lions but alas it was not to be. Safe, our housekeeper, who was so meticulous and friendly and efficient. The Masai that lit the way and saw us safely home to our tent and also got a bat out from the tent at night for me. The gardeners - everyone we met were a joy. The safaris were awe inspiring, an experience we have never had before - to be so close to all the animals and birds was truly spectacular. We very much enjoyed the boat safari and the village with so many happy children at the school and the visit to Sarmina's house who was so kind and such good fun. On the last night a private table on the riverbank complete with candles, flowers and a fire to keep the mosquitos away was such a wonderful surprise - and the very best bit was that all the staff walked down through the camp to us carrying a beautifully iced chocolate cake made by Charlie and singing a song that Sultani had put together. Hkuna Matata from each department! It was beyond wonderful and brought tears to our eyes. We will never forget the kindness and care that Samou and all the team gave to us it was far beyond our expectations. We have travelled the world extensively and never before have we been so impressed by everything offered at the Kulinda Camp. What an amazing anniversary it was. Asante Sana my friends. Great location for safaris
The lodges are clean, well equipped and comfortable. The food is first-rate, and the staff are all excellent - friendly and helpful. You are collected from the Mtemere Airstrip after flying in from Dar es Salaam with Coastal Aviation, and it's about a 20-minute journey by jeep to the camp, passing through the bush and a village where the locals all wave as you pass through. Whenever you go into the game reserve on safari, the driver/guide checks you in at the Mtemere Gate, which took just a few minutes. Steven, our driver/guide, was incredibly knowledgeable about the flora and fauna, showed us a great deal of both animals and birds and generally looked after us superbly on the full-day safaris, an early morning walking safari and a boat safari on the Rufiji River which sets off right outside the camp. On the walking safari, we were also accompanied by Michael, a trainee guide and Afumi the ranger who carried a rifle but never needed to use it. Our 'tent' which was under the cover of a typical Tanzanian building had a plunge pool for which we were very grateful after a long day's sightseeing. Each night after dinner, we were escorted back by a Maasi, armed with their long stick and a knife - not that there is any real danger, but there are monitor lizards, bush babies, baboons, banded mongoose and Colobus monkeys around the camp, none of which were a problem to us.
Such a magical honeymoon!
We stayed at Kulinda Camp as part of our honeymoon to Tanzania, a 4 night safari & 5 night beach holiday. Our stay at Kulinda Camp was the best part of our honeymoon, everything was perfect! On our first day we were greeted by the hotel manager, Salum and our waiter, Sultan. Both Salum & Sultan were so friendly and made us feel very welcome, their friendlyness and excellent customer service continued throughout the whole of our stay. Sultan was so thoughtful and always made sure we were ok, anything that we asked for her went to get for us and was always available. The chef, Cherrles was absolutely fantastic, the food at every meal time was so delicious. I am gluten intolerant and he was excellent and making sure I always had something just as nice as my husband, probably the best food we’ve ever had! I always had fresh gluten free pancakes and fresh fruit every morning, which was gorgeous! Our room was beautiful, a very cool lodge, with canvas sides and a solid ground floor and our own bathroom which was clean at all times. We booked the luxury lodge, which we were told had a private plundge pool, but it was so much more than that, more like a mini infinity pool that over looked the views of the bush. The staff at the hotel always made sure our pool was clean for when we returned from our safari tours. All of our safari’s were so well planned and led by our fantastic guide, Steven. Steven was so informative and made sure we got to see everything! We did a full day safari, 1 half day, 1 walking safari, a sunset boat safari and a village tour, all of which were such an incredible experience. At the end of each trip, Sultan and Salum were always waiting at the entrance of the camp to welcome us back with cool flannels and a drink. Thank you so much to all the staff at this camp that made our honeymoon so special, we loved every single minute and can not thank you enough!
Excellent and exotic
We had a outstanding stay at Selous Kulinda Camp. We enjoyed the view and going on boat safari. The tents were spacious and clean. The food was decent. We will not forget the friendly staff and our waiter. The manager and staff were helpful. The pool, dining and lounge area was remarkable. Overall our stay at Selous Kulinda camp was unforgettable.
Fantastic location, wonderful staff
We arrived for a 3 day safari experience after spending a week on Zanzibar The service was excellent throughout, we were greeted at the airstrip by our guide/driver Steven and after a short drive to Kulinda camp we were welcomed by the manager and staff. After a refreshing drink and a short while settling in, we set off for a half day safari and saw lots of animals, with lions prowling within arms length of the Jeep, there were giraffes and Impalas aplenty! The accommodation is wonderful considering we had a standard tent, there is more than enough room inside, the toilet and bathroom are separate and the beds have mosquito nets that are drawn at dusk by the staff. The porch area is large enough to sit in the evening and it is wonderful to listen to the animals around you, there are several types of monkey and lots of lizards. You can sometimes hear the hippos as the river Rufiji is a stones throw away and you'll certainly see them bobbing up and down when you experience the river safari, along with crocodiles and along the embankment the weaver birds are busy with nesting Food is excellent and far exceeded the 5 star hotel that we had stayed at previously in both quality and presentation. The meals are cooked and served as you arrive in the dining area and, when on safari, they are packed for you to take along. This is served at a little picnic table within the national park where you can enjoy the tranquil surroundings as you eat and drink. There is a constant supply of water and soft drinks if needed, alcohol is available but you need to pay for this - around 5 USD for a large beer and 6 USD for a glass of wine, however you probably won't need much alcohol as the days are packed full of activities that you return to camp feeling contented and sleepy! If you do have a drink, the staff set up a tab and you pay on departure - please ensure you have cash as there are no facilities for card payments. The camp is patrolled by Masai and they will also guide you back to your tent in the evening after dark, so a really safe place to be, as the camp is on the edge of a national park and some animals do wander! Overall, an absolutely wonderful experience, an idyllic location, excellent and attentive staff - thank you so much
