Best lodge on the crater
The Serena Lodge on the Crater rim is our favourite lodge at Ngorongoro Crater. The views from each room are amazing and the architecture of the lodge is also extremely unique. From the restaurant and bar you also have beautiful views into the crater floor. When we stayed here we had the very last room to the left, therefore we walked quite a bit until we got to our room but the room itself is great. Make sure to try and get an upper room, as you have an even better view from there rather than from the ground floor. Serena Lodge doesn't charge different rates for upper and ground level rooms, so just tell them at check in. The room also has a rather large bathroom with two sinks, a wardrobe and a shower. Highlight of the room is the private outside terrace from which you can enjoy amazing views in the evening and morning. Since it is a rather large lodge with many rooms dinner is always busy served as buffet. At breakfast try to get a table by the window so you can enjoy the views.
Come for the view-Stay for the service!
Awesome view provided by nature but Ngorongoro Serena Safari Lodge knew how to seamlessly fold itself into nature! We stayed in 5 lodges over the last 10 days of safari and this we the most luxurious, well-appointed and spacious in-room experience! The lodge is multi-level so a lot of stairs up and down and side to side but worth it to be here! Would stay again!
Adequate but not luxury
Hotel is in a great position and close to the entrance to the crater. Rooms are standard but have a good view of the crater. Food is very simple and disappointing. Lunch boxes that they arrange for safaris are basic particularly when you compare with other lodges.
Best view ever
We stayed one night for the crater view. Well worth it and so happy we chose this lodge. The staff were wonderful and the room clean and nice. After staying in mobile tent camps on safari, we loved the shower pressure and the buffet was fine. We enjoyed the pre dinner acrobat show in bar area. Masai market on site was nice for buying small gifts. Drive early to crater next morning, road nearby, and amazing animals and drive.
Not my first choice
If you have mobility issues, particularly with stairs, do NOT stay here. 40 steps from reception to level that rooms and bar are on. 20 steps from bar to dining room. No ramps, no elevator. Rooms small by Serena standards, the dining room is too small for the number of tables and the food is very average.
