We had the pleasure of staying at The Manor at Ngorongoro on our way from Tarangire to Ngorongoro crater and wished we arranged to spend more than one night! The rooms are classically designed/decorated completed with a working, wood burning fireplace (which they offered and lit while we were at dinner) and clawed bathtub which was prepared with hot water upon our arrival. The grounds are beautiful as the property is set atop a hill (mountain...) boarding the conservation area. Pack accordingly as it is chilly in the evenings. The beautiful acres of coffee and avocado plantation surrounding the manor are the perfect environment for a horseback ride before dinner and the stables on the ground offer just that. The ride was a nice break from the safari trucks we spent more of our time and would recommend anyone staying here take advantage of the experience. Unfortunately due to our arrival time and the chilly evening, we did not spend any time at the pool or spa but both are available. The meals were delicious and the staff were incredibly attentive our entire visit. We look forward to the chance to return on a future trip to Tanzania!
A step backin time with modern luxuries
As you drive up the mountain you watch the red clay dust settle into green rows of mature coffee and turn the bend to the most luxurious manor you could imagine. The moment you arrive it is like a movie set of an early 1900's dutch/german manor. The private "stable cottages" are large yet cozy while very luxurious. With fireplaces and sherry in room and soaking tubs, it's hard to leave and see the beautiful grounds, vistas and head out to Ngorongoro. Private balconies and outdoor fireplaces provide private outdoor spaces while the main manor sun deck, the pool area and the bar/library provide opportunities for community spaces. The staff welcome you to wander the grounds and see the gardens, stables and coffee plantation and the horses are well trained for all levels of riders if you choose to take a tour (highly recommend)! The staff are the true gem of this estate. Sarah and Stuart manage the location and I believe is an executive chef. Honestly, the food itself is worth the trip. 5 course 5 star meals are provided while also meeting special food needs. Shariff, the butler seems to appear from nowhere with magical meals, drinks, and lighting the fire in your room, available for any request you may have. Joel, the bartender has the ability to mix drinks unparalleled anywhere else. There is a beautiful pool as well and a spa as well as snooker and a movie room in the lower level. Then of course, there is Ngorongoro crater and Manyara near by. Amazing animal viewing and for birders a true paradise. This property could not be fully explored in only a few days, we will have to return to find it's best areas and enjoy all it has to offer.
perhaps one of the greatest hotels we've ever stayed at

I went on a Kenya and Tanzania safari from 9 to 20 September 2020, I stayed at Manor Ngorongoro on the 18th and 19th, it is a superb Lodge, with well-kept gardens, with refinement, very well furnished in various areas, with antique pieces , a perfect place to rest on safaris, the rooms are spectacular, very spacious, with very personalized service, very attentive staff, it is worth going even in these pandemic times, very safe. Perfect stay and guided tour to Ngorongoro Crater
This hotel is beautiful. The management and staff go out of their way to make guests feel welcome, and very special. Our amazing guide Elias Naikara met us at the airstrip at Lake Munyara, with refreshments and an enormous smile. He drove us to The Manor and chatted to us en route about the area, the people and the culture. Elias is a true gentleman, and his English is excellent. The hotel is stunning, and our room was just beautiful. Very spacious, and with a gorgeous outlook to the coffee plantation. The gardens are magnificent. After we settled in, we had a delicious lunch on the terrace. Sundowners are also enjoyed on the terrace and the views are beautiful. Elias arranged to pick us up early the next morning from The Manor for a full day trip to Ngorogoro Crater. The scenery is breathtaking as you look down on the crater base from the rim. Elias provided a wonderful picnic lunch which we shared in a communal safe picnic area. Elias is an excellent driver. It was an amazing day and an absolute highlight of our African adventure. On our return to The Manor, afternoon tea was brought to our room and our claw foot bath was filled with hot water, bubbles and rose petals. Luxury! The attention to detail at The Manor, and the brilliant touring with Elias were unforgettable and definitely helped make our African adventure the trip of a lifetime. If we are lucky enough to return to Tanzania, we would definitely stay at the Manor, and request Elias as our guide.
