We stayed at this hotel last March (2019) and had such a wonderful time that we decided to stay again this year. We very rarely go back to hotels for a second visit, so this says a lot for the experience we enjoyed. I wrote a full description of the hotel and its surroundings in 2019, so didn't feel the need to write much more on this occasion, although we chose to stay in the same Plantation Suite as previously. The bar area had been greatly extended since our previous visit, with many more comfortable seating areas. We did take the sunset cruise out to Petit Nevis this time, which was a lovely experience - seeing the beautiful yacht and its facilities, but unfortunately there was no real sunset on this occasion, although there were some stunning displays of clouds, back-lit by the setting sun. We had booked a stay of 11 nights, but very sadly, and reluctantly, we had to cut short our holiday because of the Coronavirus pandemic and had to follow UK Government advice to return home. There was no Covid-19 on Bequia, but we could not stay there and be a burden to the local community. We only had 6 nights of our stay, the stay we had been planning since last July, but the staff and the management were magnificent, taking everything in their stride despite all the difficulties. Service, as previously, was impeccable and always helpful and friendly. We really do hope that we will be able to return to Bequia Beach Resort next year and pick up our holiday where we left off. Lovely relaxing holiday!
We returned, just recently, from a lovely 12 night stay at BBH. We were amongst the last batch of guests to leave before many flights were cancelled because of the virus. Hopefully the people who were due to leave in the days after us got home safely. However, whilst we were there we had a fantastic time! We stayed in a detached one bedroom cottage, Mayreau, and it was perfect for us. It was spacious and in an excellent location as it was close to everything and yet quiet, peaceful and secluded. As others have said, the brilliant staff made our stay extra special. They are helpful, friendly and with a great sense of fun and humour! My husband in particular enjoyed the laughter and banter with everyone! The hotel and grounds are immaculate, everyone works very hard to maintain the high standards. We had several chats with Bengt Mortstedt, the owner. A very nice man who cares passionately about his hotel and his staff. The food was delicious, well cooked and beautifully presented but I would agree to a certain extent with other reviews that a little more variety is needed as the dinner menus were repeated quite frequently during our stay. Breakfast was very good, especially the hot food cooked to order (I just loved the Eggs Benedict!!). Just one small comment, it would be good to have a variety of pastries - croissants, pain au chocolate etc. The hotel runs a shuttle service to Jack’s Bar/Port Elizabeth which we did use but, as others have said, perhaps a more frequent return would be beneficial rather than wait for the only return at 4.00. We also did the trip to Mustique on the hotel’s yacht, we had a lovely day but it was very disorganised and sadly we felt that it was more of an expensive ferry ride than a luxury cruise. There was entertainment at the hotel on some evenings and a steel band at Sunday lunchtime, all of which we very much enjoyed - especially Clear Blue Eyes! All in all we had a brilliant holiday and hope to return again one day!
This is a delightful hotel and probably the best Bequia has to offer. It has expansive grounds and plenty of sun beds either around the pool or spread out under the trees along the beach. Stayed in a classic room. They are set up a hill ( 60 steps) so take note if you have difficulty walking. All other rooms are more accessible. Room was well appointed. And had a distant sea view. Good WiFi signal throughout hotel. Stayed on b & b basis which meant some nights we could go out . The restaurant Bagatelle served a different menu each night and was very pleasant. Did not try the Italian restaurant but seemed popular. To get to the restaurants in Port Elizabeth there is a set taxi charge of $10 US each way. In the hotel there was a different form of music entertainment most nights. There were a few children here but in my honest opinion I would say this was not a hotel for children as it is quite quiet ( depends on what your child needs/ wants). Staff were very friendly - shout out to Tatiana and Rima, and the many friendly restaurant staff. We took the hotel private jet from Barbados to arrive and that was all very well organised and a great start to the holiday. The Bequia airport is very quiet so the custom officials do a thorough search of your luggage on arrival and departure! We did the hotel yacht trip to Mustique- utterly delightful, would recommend. We were disappointed that we were not able to do the Tobago Cays trip, it depends on numbers for the yacht to go out. May be next time! The beach is lovely. At times can have a strong swell but during our stay, there were many days of absolute calm. The hotel free shuttle to Jacks at Princess Margaret Beach was good for a change of scenery , here there are sun beds reserved for hotel guests and you stay all day, you can easily walk into Port Elizabeth from here on the broad walk . Definitely a place to return to .
Very recently returned from a lovely holiday at the Bequia hotel. Probably extremely fortunate to enjoy this special time immediately prior to the dreadful situation the world is now facing. As so many reviews say, this is a lovely resort, probably made by a few particular factors. The staff who are customer facing are absolutely fantastic. It’s always difficult to name but a few, but I will highlight Candy, Shaun and Shacq behind the bar, and Samuel in the dining room. We really enjoyed the food, although the menu was rather repetitive and I was quite surprised to see exactly the same menu twice in three days . Because we like the food this wasn’t a problem for us. The wine was much better than other we had experienced on other all-inclusive packages in the Caribbean and the array of cocktails etc. was excellent. The beach which is accessed directly from the hotel is lovely, although on a couple of days the waves were quite significant. We also went over to the other side of the island on the hotel shuttle bus and visited Jack’s bar where the beach is much busy but the water is calmer. We stayed on the all-inclusive package which was quite a relief as we do like eating and drinking. Many reviews have mentioned how beautiful the ocean view rooms are I have no doubt that they are indeed great. We stayed in the garden facing rooms which were perfectly nice, but I would stress that they are up the hill mainly accessed via multiple steps and if you have any mobility problems this could be difficult. My main suggestion for the hotel would be to increase the visibility of the supervisory and management staff. I’m used to hotels where the customer services team and indeed section heads actually come round and talk to clients daily. This didn’t happen and I have to note that it did take three days to get what was a serious health and safety issue resolved never mind the inconvenience that the particular problem was causing in our room. We were a couple in our early 60s and we did meet some really charming people and had great fun. However we did feel that the main clientele attracted to the hotel was a much older age group. This was probably reflected in the quietness of the bar at night. Overall a fantastic holiday and I really hope the hotel survives this current crisis.
Just before CV 19 shutdown
Delightful place to stay and relax. Very friendly, the owner even greeted us in Barbados! Lovely room and fabulous beach. WiFi rather intermittent but who cares. Breakfast good but some other meals less appealing as I am not too good with sea food. Would love to return!
