Spent 2 nights at the end of our holiday at Jetwing Yala. Rooms were spacious, comfortable and had lovely views overlooking the sand dunes. The reason for coming to this hotel is the excitement of the wildlife. At the pool you can watch the monkeys at play and the boars walking passed. In the mornings we found monkeys on our veranda and my son and partner found a monkey in their open air shower, which was an experience. Prior to our visit we arranged an early morning safari. The hotel very kindly arranged a breakfast that we took with us. Did not help that the weather was poor with one enormous deluge of rain, which meant that very few animals were on view. However, concur with other Trip Advisers comments that it is very commercialized and even with a very pleasant knowledgeable guide it was not that enjoyable. The buffet food at the hotel was good with several hot food stations. Good short walk through the sand dunes you will find the sea where there were life guards should you wish to take a dip. In the evening we had a drinks outside the bar which was very pleasant and the cost of the drinks were reasonable. Overall a pleasant stay with the hotel meeting all our requirements.
Fantastic Hotel - Wonderful Staff
Overview We stayed at this hotel for one week in December and were blown away by the quality and ambience of the place. This is probably the first real sustainable hotel that we have ever stayed at and love the fact that the ethos is all about the environment - from the bathroom facilities to the paper straws in the bar. It seems that this hotel actually cares, which is a rare thing in these days of maximizing profit. Staff All the staff was amazing and always smiling, helpful and courteous. Room The room was lovely, comfortable and always kept clean. Tea and coffee facilities were available along with a fridge with cold water provided. Food and Drink The food choices were great! We opted for the half-board option so breakfast and dinner only, which were buffet style. I'm vegan and didn't struggle at all to find something to eat and I have to say that I'm now a big fan of the Sri Lankan breakfast. The wine list is good and, in my opinion, very reasonably priced. The bar was great and the staff there very helpful. We tried some of the local cocktails, which again were very good. Gym My wife and I are big fans of using gyms when we travel and this gym had enough in it to keep us happy. It's only small but had running machines, cross trainer, free weights and weights machine - enough for an all round workout. Animals, It was so lovely to see the animals wandering around the grounds from wild boar to elephants, chipmunks and monkeys oh and the occasional cow! The dogs there are also very friendly and are quite grateful for a little tickle every now and then.
Lovely hotel - monkeys and an elephant-sized bathroom
After a long journey from Bentota to Yala, I was really looking for a place to get some rest. Jetwings Yala was just terrific. From the moment you get in to the time you check out, everything is well looked after and is just good. We were welcomed with some really nice herbal kind of tea and taken to our room and the amenities were shown. Shocking was the size of the bathroom: literally, a medium-sized elephant can stand in and take shower. It's THAT big. i wonder what that was for, and i just couldn't understand why they designed it that way. Dinner and breakfast buffet at the restaurant is simply an insanely great affair. All kinds of food for any tastebud is available. They all tasted good. Beware those monkeys sitting on the roof - ready to snatch something from your hand quickly.
It was a pleasant experience living between all nature. Staff were professional and sweet. The restaurant was superb with wide variety and live stations. I would rate spa separately 3/5 as it could be improved, considering a 5 star hotel.
I have been to Yala a number of times and had some amazing experiences but this visit and THIS hotel were easily the best. It wasn’t the best time of year to be there weather-wise, but the experience was fantastic. We were upgraded to the Yala Safari Camp for one night which I absolutely loved, but when we eventually got to our room in the hotel we liked it better. The rainy weather was the main reason for this but also we were given a room at the end of the long walkway and we were in the most wonderful, elevated position to view the abundant bird life, the occasional passing elephant and wild boars galore. We spent our whole time darting backwards and forwards from our balcony to the walkway outside the room, hoping we wouldn’t miss anything. The staff at this hotel were the best Jetwing staff we have experienced. So friendly, so helpful and very caring. The highlight of our stay was the visit of the local wild elephant “short tail”. He walked past our balcony on the beach and then turned up at breakfast the following morning. How can you top that? The staff at the hotel are very careful to keep guests away from him, for the safety of humans and elephant alike but he obviously did not feel threatened as he curled up and went to sleep before our very eyes. The first time he had done this so close to the hotel, we were told. Wonderful! Oh yes! And the food was lovely, the room very comfortable and all in all I would highly recommend THIS hotel in Yala.
