Lovely rooms with wildlife roaming around
We stayed here for two nights. We had an end room on the middle level, which we found bright and airy. Some reviews mention dark rooms so maybe it’s the ground floor rooms. Ours was lovely with great amenities. The hotel is extremely clean and tidy. The resort is all about being self-sustainable. They desal and bottle their own drinking water, grow there only vegetables and use a wood fired boiler for electricity. We went on a back of house tour green tour to see it in action. The pool is lovely. Unfortunately, it was extremely windy while we were there so it wasn’t very comfortable laying on sunlounges. I don’t know if it was unusually windy or not; or whether it’s just the location. We went for a walk down the beach which is patrolled by lifeguards, but it was closed due to conditions as well. There were turtle tracks and nests on the beach, which are guarded by the lifeguards. The highlight for us was all the wildlife walking around the resort. We saw wild boar, giant squirrels, hares, monkeys and birdlife. Sometimes elephants walk by as well, but we didn’t see any. We had been in Sri Lanka for a month and had been staying in mainly boutique hotels, so it did seem a little in personable due to the size of the hotel, even though the staff were extremely friendly and professional. Check in was extremely slow. We were asked to take a seat and then it seemed like we were forgotten about. After about 30 minutes my partner stood at the counter for about 20 minutes, then we were checked in. Also, food service was extremely slow even when there was only one other couple in the restaurant. We organised our own morning safari to Yala National Park, which was amazing. We saw 3 or 4 herds of elephants varying from groups of 3 to 12 elephants at once. We also saw leopards, giant squirrels, crocodiles, turtles, monitor lizards, mongoose, deer, water buffalo, hornbills, spoonbills, an owl, eagles, peacocks and many other types of birds. Our driver new exactly where to go at what time. We spoke to lots of guests who did a tour through the hotel at the same time who only saw a couple of elephants, no leopards and barely half of what we saw. So please do your research with who you choose to do you tour with. We only booked our own private tour because we couldn’t get much information about the tours when emailing the resort in advance; and where extremely glad we did. This is a lovely resort and we had a nice relaxing stay here.
SPACIOUS ROOMS FRIENDLY STAFF AND GREAT LOCATION
Great hotel, in lovely surroundings. Easy to visit Yala National Park from this location. This place gives you the feeling of calmness and is relaxing. No pressure at all. Beautiful and refreshing pool. The pool attendant wa polite and very helpful and was prepared to have a chat whenever possible. Plenty of monkeys around the hotel and surrounds. The staff were amazing. Very polite, helpful and friendly. The food was delicious and plenty of variety. The Executive Sous Chef whose name is Kapita introduced himself and was interested in knowing our thoughts on the food and if there was some special dish we would like to have. Of course we mentioned Crab curry and at dinner the next night thats what was served to us amongst all the other dishes. A great hotel, one of the best hotels we stayed at during our tour of Sri Lanka. Will definitely be coming back. Thanks to everyone at Jetwing Yala for making us feel at home and part of the family.
One of the best hotels we have ever stayed at!!!
We absolutely loved this hotel!! We stayed here with the intention of going to Yala national park but decided against it after seeing how great the hotel was. The restaurants are amazing! As was our room. Really spacious with a massive balcony. Brilliant pool bar and pool. Pushpakumara works at the pool and he is lovely! He is so helpful and will always let guests know if he sees monkeys, elephants etc. nearby. He goes out of his way to make your stay better. It was thanks to him we got to see as many animals as we did. We wished we could have stayed for more than one night. Will definitely come back again!
Great rooms situated on sand-dunes with the beach beyond.
We only stayed one night at this hotel, which was a pity. Early the next morning we sent off for Yala National Park which was such a real highlight of our time in Sri Lanka. The hotel had a safari feel to it and we delighted in seeing monkeys on the roof of part of the hotel. The food was delicious and the staff were most helpful. The bedroom was large with an imposing canopy bed.
One of the best places I've ever visited. The food is superb! The rooms are spacious and clean. I must specially mention about the staff. Decent, polite, helpful and very friendly. The bathroom was also spacious, clean and beautiful. The overall place is calm and relaxing. Definitely coming back!
