Ladies who lunch
Treated to lunch at Mount Lavinia by my mother and her friends from RAF Katunayaka, splendid day, excellent company, scrummy food, fastidious service by attentive staff. Needless to say the weather and views were amazing too. The fact that this was in 1958 barely relevant!
Average hotel with a beautiful view
This was our last hotel during a 6 night tour in Sri Lanka on our honeymoon before heading to the Maldives for a week. Unfortunately, this was our least favourite hotel out of the 4 we had stayed in for a number of reasons. Upon arrival, the greeting (or lack of) was very different to what we had experienced in our other hotels. We didn't feel welcomed like we had done at the Cinnamon Habaraba Lodge, Cinnamon Citadel Kandy or Heritance Tea Factory but were summoned through security (which is fine) with some very unfriendly faces. Check in was fine and we were taken to our room, which felt old and in need of an update like the rest of the hotel. The view of the sea and beach was beautiful though but the presence of crows and lots of meant that we couldn't really enjoy the balcony! The swimming pool was busy and quite noisy because of the crows but we managed to enjoy a couple of hours around the pool. We decided to opt for room service that night, which was quick and tasty and very reasonably priced. Breakfast the next morning was very nice, with a very good selection of food and lots of fresh bread and pastries. I'm sorry to sound negative, but this hotel just felt very different to the other hotels during our wonderful trip in Sri Lanka. It was however conveniently located near to to the airport which suited us and if we had more time here, we would have loved to make the most of the beautiful golden beach.
Stunning - A living Museum.
Well - this was our last hotel on our tour around the island and it did not disappoint. It like stepping back in time and joining the British Elite at one of their hotels - you are even greeted by a doorman with a PITH HELMUT on. The hotel is a step in history and it is simply marvellous place to visit. Rooms we given had an ocean view with a side view down the beach looking towards Colombo. Rooms were very pleasant and semi historic. Roof top swimming pool and view to die for abound here. They even have access to their own beach area. The food was magnificent and did not disappoint. It was just a nice place to stay. Access to Mount Lavinia railway station is just out the front and if your game catch a train into the city.
Worst hotel EVER
Nothing good to say about this hotel!! After a long drive really looking forward to stay here... after having such an amazing time in Sri Lanka, this hotel made me feel so so bad about the country, such a shame! To sum up: - hotel is old and more like a ruin then a proper hotel - room airconditioning was loud - bathroom looks like it comes from the stone-age, old and stains everywhere - bed could be taken away, is like sleeping on the floor - in the morning you will wake up by a train which comes directly next to the room.. but feels like it drives through your room! - breakfast is fine, but nothing like the other places in Sri Lanka Have canceled the rest of the night and they promised refund for the other nights it after two months... still NO refund! Not responding on any emails anymore whatsoever... just really rude. Worst service I have EVER seen and just really not worth of spending your money! It is a shame
Had Lunch at the hotel’s buffet restaurant. Overall, a pleasant experience. My impression is that service level has gone down over the past few years. Food options are okay but lacking creativity; the traditional foods don’t meet the homemade level of taste and quality. Beautiful sea view from the restaurant terrace. A busy place.
