The three restaurants and two bars are supplemented by great private-dining options that range from food-and-wine pairings in the wine cellar to a farm-to-table lunch in the organic vegetable garden.

Journeys\  The main restaurant is open for breakfast, lunch and dinner and offers dishes from Sri Lanka and around the world. Most of your included meals will be served here and there are buffet and à la carte options.

Il Mare
Dine by candlelight on fine Italian cuisine at this stylish venue, which is set on a rocky outcrop overlooking the Indian Ocean.

Verala
Enjoy a theatrical evening meal at the teppanyaki-inspired Verala, which serves Asian and local dishes by the beach.

Just stepping into the spa, where wooden walkways are lined with pools of water lilies, is enough to induce a feeling of calm. At this cliffside retreat, the focus is on therapies that combine ancient wisdom with modern knowledge, from Ayurvedic massages to the signature two-hour tea-themed Ceylon Retreat.

Enjoy complimentary yoga and meditation sessions by the sea, in the spa’s yoga pavilion or in your villa.

The large and airy fitness centre is open 24 hours a day and is fully equipped with cardio machines, treadmills and free weights. If you prefer to be outdoors, there are tennis and badminton courts, or free bicycles to explore the local area.

With the help of the skilled instructors at Anantara Surf Centre by Tropicsurf, guests can learn to surf, find the perfect waves or head out on a stand-up paddleboard.

The resort has an organic paddy field, planted with indigenous rice varieties and tended using traditional methods. A project in partnership with the IUCN helps protect and conserve turtle nests on the resort beach. The in-house reverse osmosis plant produces 2,000 litres of clean water per day, which is put in glass bottles for drinking. Compost from the resort’s zero-waste garden is shared with local farmers, who supply fresh produce for the hotel in return.

Families will appreciate the flexible accommodation options, the relaxed dining options and the long list of child-friendly things to do.

The Joli Kids’ and Teens’ Club, open every day from 9am to 6pm, provides supervised activities for all ages. There’s a shaded playground, quiet areas for naps and an indoor room for arts and crafts.
