Beautiful Sri Lankan Trip 2019 - Nuwara Eliya (Jetwings St. Andrews)
I stayed with my wife in this beautiful vintage property on 7th Oct 2019, a picturesque, serene property with state of the art rooms and other facilities ie. the fire place, the lawn outside, the 117-Year Old Snooker Table and the grand entrance. The check in was smooth and the staff were very friendly, i so liked the concept of soup served as welcome drink...thanks. Then comes, the surprise upgrade to a Jr. Suite with Honeymoon amenities...we had a private balcony and excess to the hotel lawns from the room. The room interiors, the color of the drapes and the amenities placed were truly luxury and went with the name...I can understand this very well being a hotelier. Thank you so much and will make it sure to visit your property again.
I liked it here - this is a really nice hotel with the feel of a Scottish Highland stately home. It is located at an altitude of around 6000 feet so it's pleasantly cooler than the lowlands - on arrival we were greeted and offered a welcome drink of hot soup...!! Without exception, the staff are all pleasant and helpful, dressed with tweed caps and waistcoats fitting the St Andrews Scottish ambience. Our room was comfortable and really quiet with lovely views onto the gardens. No air conditioning, but you don't need it. There's a nice restaurant, or you can eat from the light bites menu in the bar. We finished the evening with a drink in a small drawing room on a sofa in front of a roaring open fire - quite a contrast from the rest of our Sri Lankan adventure and quite a lovely experience.
Great and consistent service throughout lockdown
My husband and I were required to lockdown in this hotel for 3 nights due to the Covid-19 crisis. Management and staff throughout this time acted responsibility with warmth and professionalism at all times. Our waiters were delightful and offered good humour and smiles throughout a difficult time. The hotel itself is old and full of history and character. We welcomed a room upgrade as we were the only guests staying in-house. A special thanks to the St Andrews team for accommodating us.
Beautiful setting and great service
We stayed in Nuwara Eliya for one night on our tour of Sri Lanka. Upon arrival we were met by what felt like a beautifully British hotel with perfectly manicured gardens. We then had afternoon tea on the lawn in the sunshine. The rooms are wonderful and fitting with the style of the hotel. The one thing we noticed with this hotel was that the pictures do not do it justice, in person it is so much nicer and more beautiful. We went to the royal hotel for dinner also and were not impressed thus would highly recommend visitors to NE stay here. The staff were great and so was the food.
English feel of a stay
The beautifully trimmed hedges in the gardens gave me a good feeling as we were being driven up the road to be dropped off. First impressions were good, as it felt traditionally English. Rooms are more of an English cottage style and this is where it falls a little short for me, esp. the attached bathrooms. I do prefer the common areas of this 131 year old building, and being able to enjoy the warmth of a fireplace. Buffet also had a good spread in comparison to some other hotels we stayed in.
