Relax and unwind in this eco-friendly resort which is nestled within a 98-acre colonial tea estate in the Ella Gap. One of the region’s most sought-after properties in Sri Lanka, 98 Acres provides guests an elegant and distinctly Sri Lankan experience. It only has 28 rooms and these are set in two-storey thatched buildings that seem to cling to the hillside. Each room, from Standard to Premier Deluxe, has unbeatable views over the surrounding landscapes and a charming vibe with dark wood furnishings and a furnished balcony. Meals are served at Restaurant 98, yet another spot where you can enjoy the views. You can choose from either Sri Lankan or international cuisine so there is sure to be something to suit your tastes. We particularly love Bar 98, an open-air venue that has been contructed using reclaimed timber and railway sleepers. This is rustic chic at its finest. The bar menu features a range of cocktails and mocktails, wines and spirits.
Made up of a collection of colonial tea planters’ bungalows linked by trails that weave through beautiful tea gardens, this unique property provides a slice of Sri Lankan tradition and heritage. As you make your way to your assigned bungalow, all of which are set deep in the spectacular Bogawantalawa Valley in the island’s Hill Country, you can’t help but feel you’ve arrived somewhere special. This is a place for guests seeking serenity and perhaps for those who also wish for a little light adventure, with scenic walks, hikes and mountain biking trails available right on the doorstep. Each of the five unique bungalows plays host to Luxury Rooms, Garden Suites and resplendent Master Suites. Each room and suite is full of character and charm, as well as antique furnishings – think roll-top baths and four-poster beds. And it is in your room that each day begins with a tradition ‘bed tea’ brought to you by your butler who is also on hand from morning until night to attend to your every request.

The Deluxe Rooms are located in the hotel's most modern wing and have garden or river views from the balcony. The Suites are the most spacious, featuring a separate living room and beautiful views over the river.

From the moment you arrive you’ll be swept up in the history of the Heritance Tea Factory which is part hotel, part museum. Original features are still on display within this incredible building which was transformed into a hotel amid rolling hills covered in tea. During a stay here you can really immerse yourself in your destination by plucking your own tea and watching its journey through the mini tea factory; enjoying a fine dining experience in a restored train carriage; and of course, partaking in that most British of traditions – high tea. The beautiful Kenmare Restaurant, where all your included meals are served, was once the sifting room of the factory. Today you can dine on local and international dishes surrounded by the original iron works, and old tea crates are used as serving stations. For a special evening you can enjoy the unique Dining on Wheels experience. Dine in an old train carriage which would once have been used to transport tea from the factory, and enjoy butler service and a culinary journey through six 'stations'. All of the rooms and suites have beautiful views out over the hills of the Hethersett plantation and an old-world style with dark wood furnishings and beams. You can choose from the Superior or more-spacious Premium Rooms or opt for an Executive Floor Deluxe Room which is located on the highest floor of the hotel and has the services of a butler. Junior Suites and the glorious Honeydew Suite are also available.
A main building and a scattering of chalets, all set on stilts above a lush tea garden overlooking the forest. Floor to ceiling windows create a feeling of being at one with nature whilst walks through the forest itself are simply magical. The Rainforest Eco Lodge also supports a community outreach project in a nearby village.
Santani means ‘in harmony with’ in Sanskrit and this minimalist luxury resort blurs the lines between inside and out – bringing you closer to nature and maximising the sweeping views of misty mountains, pristine forest and paddy fields. It's the perfect place for a digital detox and, as all shared areas are Wi-Fi-free, there's no temptation to check your emails or engage with social media, so you can focus on simply slowing down and quietening your mind. The resort featured on Condé Nast Traveller's 2017 Hot List and was also voted one of Tatler's Best Spas in the World for 2017. The hillside spa is set across three levels and specialises in hydrotherapy and Ayurveda. There is a range of customised wellness programmes and a focus on 'lasting wellness', encouraging you to continue living healthily long after you return home. There are also plenty of activities to help you make the most of the beautiful setting. Rise early to meditate on the banks of the Hulu River or head to the open-air yoga pavilion and enjoy the feeling of the breeze on your skin and the sound of birdsong. You can also go hiking, mountain biking or swimming in one of the natural pools. The lap pool clings to the hillside and has some of the best views in the property. The restaurant is set in an elevated position and has floor-to-ceiling windows to immerse you in the spectacular surroundings. There's plenty of choice when it comes to nutritious food and, instead of menus, the chefs here prepare dishes according to your custom meal plan which is created in line with your health and wellness goals. Enjoy freshly-caught seafood and vegetables, herbs, spices, tea and coffee from the organic garden. After dinner, head to the open-air main pavilion lounge for drinks at the biodynamic wine and fresh juice bar. The rooms have a rustic style and sustainable design – they are naturally ventilated so the fresh mountain air keeps the temperature comfortable at night. You won't find any televisions to distract you but in-room Wi-Fi is available on demand if you’re not quite ready to relinquish your smart phone or tablet. The stand-alone Mountainview Chalets are perched on stilts on a hillside with wonderful views over the valley and mountains. These simple rooms are perfect for two people and feature a four-poster bed and a balcony with teak deckchairs. The Gardenview Chalets are designed with families and groups in mind and comprise two chalets linked by a common area. They are set a little further away from the resort – it’s a ten-minute walk or short ride in a tuk tuk – and feature a glass wall with views of the surrounding vegetation. The latest hotel to grace the slopes of Nuwara Eliya, Araliya Green Hills is all about creating a warm and welcoming atmosphere, to make you feel like family and pamper you with attentive personalised service. The ideal place from which to explore Nuwara Eliya, it offers vast buffet spreads, comfortable rooms and a wonderful spa.
With an almost 200 year history, a stay at the Grand Hotel Nuwara Eliya is like stepping back in time. This National Heritage property, which began its life as the home of Sir Edward Barnes – a former governor of the island, is packed with old world features that reflect its past. In the past 190 years, ‘Barnes Hall’ has been added to and renovated and today is one of the most characterful, history-rich properties in Sri Lanka. It’s not all about the past at Grand Hotel Nuwara Eliya – they have a very 21st Century view on sustainability. There’s a zero single-use plastic policy, they have their own farms and grow organic produce that they use in their restaurants. As you are transported up the drive to the grand entrance of the hotel, you’ll notice the painstakingly landscaped gardens which really set the tone for your stay. Inside, the design is in part dark wood furnishings, beams and wall panelling and in part refreshing light décor. There’s substance as well as style: the hotel has five restaurants which include authentic Indian and Thai venues, and the main dining room – Barnes Hall. We love that the hotel has a couple of unexpected and quirky private dining spots too; you can enjoy dinner in the converted laundry or boiler room. As you might expect from a hotel up in the Hill Country, high tea is a big deal at the Grand Hotel. They have a tea lounge, complete with an outdoor terrace, where cakes, scones and savoury snacks are served every afternoon. There’s also the Mindfulness Studio where they have daily music therapy sessions, yoga classes, treatment rooms and an indoor heated swimming pool. We’ve chosen to feature the rooms in the Golf Wing. They are simple in style with neutral décor and walnut-hued furnishings and look out towards one of the fairways of the neighbouring Nuwara Eliya Golf Club. The Junior Suites, which are larger than the Deluxe Rooms, feature a separate living room and come complete with butler service.
