Unforgettable Holiday at Ceylon Tea Trails - Dunkeld Bungalow
We stayed at the Taylors Owners Cottage for two nights. It was a treat from our daughter and son, where we had two days of ultimate luxury with excellent care by Janaka and chef Mangala and the staff. We enjoyed the special tour of the Tea factory and lunch arranged at Castlereigh bungalow. During our stay we enjoyed exceptionally well prepared meals by chef Mangala, which was very high quality and taste. All the staff including the complementary boat transport from Summerville Bungalow to Dunkeld Bungalow were courteous and well trained. Anyone driving to Dunkeld or Castlereagh bungalows are advised not to use Google maps and as the suggested route is impassable. You will get stuck as you pass Claverton Bungalow after tuning off from B071. Please ask for directions from Resplendent Ceylon Reservations or Janaka, at Dunkeld Bungalow +94 76 498 7051 before you visit`, if you’re taking your own vehicle. The correct route is from B149: Lookout for the name board to Ceylon Tea Trails Bungalows before you come to Maskeliya town. A more sensible option is to park your vehicle at the Sommerville Bungalow in safety and take the complementary boat provided by Ceylon Tea Trails from Sommerville Bungalow to Dunkeld Bungalow across the Castlereigh Reservoir. A stay in any of the Ceylon Tea Trails bungalows is an absolutely luxurious gateway for any discerning traveler.
Our stay at Tea Trails and specifically Castlereagh bungalow was exceptional. The team made sure that we missed out on nothing. The food was amazing, the room well kept and the Bungalow felt like home. We highly recommend this stay as you will be able to spend time with the tea pickers, get a tea factory tour and bathe in luxury.
A Visit to Dunkeld Bungalow
I had the absolute pleasure of visiting one of the most beautiful places on earth, Dunkeld Estate which sits proudly overlooking the calm waters of Castlereagh Lake surrounded by mesmerizing views of humongous green-velvety mountains that grandly rise to the clear blue skies. Not only was the scenery breathtaking, but the bungalow holds a tone of rich serenity and is tastefully decorated, amazingly comfortable, clean, and subtlety spoke of luxury in every detail. If you wander in the lush wilderness you'd be able to get a glimpse of the resilient leopards on their majestic hunt. The staff graciously pointed to us the hiking, trekking, and biking trails that led us through the heavenly greens of the Castlereigh Reservoir and connected pathways to the other four grand bungalows secretly nestled in the valley. The very informative Tea Factory tour led by Barnard who is a connoisseur showed us how the rich liquor was created, with thorough processing, grading, and tasting of the finely plucked tea leaves. Our evenings were spent either enjoying a silent game of chess, or we got the balls rolling in the cozily-built billiard room. The well-lit fireplace lifted the atmosphere, and we gathered around it to enjoy a drink we poured from the bar in-house. The spa services were amazing and the services were offered by true professionals. The staff was very accommodating, kind, caring, and offered a very professional service. We enjoyed scrumptious food prepared for us by Chef Ravi Chandra and Janaka the Butler, Lahiru, Chamara & Umesh, the House Attendants were very helpful and attentive to our every need. A heartfelt note of appreciation to Dilmah Group of Companies for their invaluable services in taking care of fauna flora as well as the numerous projects that assist preserve the Sri Lankan traditions and culture. I look forward to visiting the heavenly Dunkeld Estate again to delve and savor the beautiful nature, & its creations and to indulge in the luxuriousness of Dunkeld Bungalow with its amazing staff. - Dr. Gotabhaya Ranasinghe
Superb in All Ways!
Certainly couldn't say anything negative about this place, as from location to food, everything is top-notch. The time we spent there was so enjoyable, from the very educational tea tour with Bernard, to our relaxing times playing dominoes before dinner,. The meals just couldn’t be beat-- the food and the service is impeccable. We went to another building for lunch, which was fun, but since the selection varies so much from day today and meal to meal, we would have had a different experience at our own building anyway. We were lodged in the Norwood Bungalow. The rooms are spacious and very comfortable, and the bathrooms are amazing, ours was in black and white tile with lovely fixtures. All in all, a top-notch experience here.
A must stop in Sri lanka
Tea trails has been an amazing experience. We like the home-like feeling they generate, its incredible service and the cook (who is amazing). The cottages are lovely, with a beautiful furniture, as well as the surroundings. The Tea factory explanation is very interesting and complimentary. There are different bungalows around the lake and boat/cars to transfer between them. Some of the bungalows have a jacuzzi (which we recommend for the colder months like in may) or pool. All of them have a croquet field and astonishing views. We stayed at the summerville, whose manager, Sanjaya, made our stay splendid. We highly recommend staying at least two nights and take advantage of an early arrival. Bikes, kayak, lunch at another villa, croquet, laundry, honeymoon bath or tea time are some of the complimentary things they offer. A special mention goes for the cook, who prepared traditional local plates adapted to non-spicy countries. So tasteful!!!
