Well organised big resort hotel
Our two nights here were very comfortable but it is a big resort. The architecture is very pleasant and the grounds beautifully maintained. The hotel is set back from the beach and blends in with the surroundings, unlike one enormous hotel just to the south. Pasikuda beach is a wonderful crescent of pale sand, although in February the sea was very rough. The food was very good and we were able to sit and eat on the outdoor veranda. For non-package guests for dinner there is either a buffet or a la carte menu. We tried both. A la carte, the grilled reef fish 'catch of the day' was excellent, my husband's barbecued ribs less so. The Sri Lankan dishes in the buffet were good, although some seemed rather under-spiced. We also enjoyed having a beer at the beach bar. More negatively, the infinity pool was too shallow. Also whilst we were there a group of noisy youngsters moved from volley ball to the pool, taking it over completely for most of an afternoon which was offputting. We had a beautiful view of the sea from our beach studio but, with so many people in sun loungers right outside our window, our little patio area wasn't very private. The room could also be a bit noisy when the people upstairs moved their furniture around.
The hotel offers a best stay if you are looking for a quiet beautiful place in a not very touristic area. The good atmosphere with their stuff, makes it very pleasant to be there . For us is very important, a good care of the working people. Most employees are locals ,as well most products or cooperation partners are from the local area , which gives the local economy a good support. This important point for us is , investment in the local economy versus exploitation and only benefit for big investors. Next positive point is the respect towards the nature in many areas : no plastic ,all refill and reusable material, Solar energy system on the roof of the hotel. On top of all ,the very big and comfortable rooms , almost all with balcony and fantastic seaviews even from the shower . We have been the second time in Uga Bay and would any time like to come back . Our special thanks to some outstanding stuff : Tareek , Fairooz from the service and the lovely lady Patiba from the kitchen team ,the guys at the morning buffet pancake area. But really all stuff was amazing!!
Relaxation and attentive service
We spent 8 nights here in January originally booking a Beach Studio but were upgraded to the Ocean Studio. The difference between the two is that the Beach Studio is on the ground floor and the Ocean Studio is on the first floor. We couldn’t actually see the ocean as we were towards the back of the complex but that wasn’t an issue for us. Food - we went for bed and breakfast and paid for each of our meals separately. The meals were of good quality when picked off the a la carte menu. When there was a buffet on (mainly for those guests who were on all inclusive, although you could pay for the buffet), the quality wasn’t all that but wpuld work out cheaper than paying for a la carte. We did want more specific Sri Lankan food, so we did push for the chef to make some “specials” for us. This was great service and done without fuss. Drinks - all the main stuff you could want. Not overly expensive compared to western countries but more expensive than going out. Beach - beautiful, just beautiful. Perfect place to unwind and relax. Pool - big enough. It was quite when we were there so could get busy if fully occupied. The staff always had towels ready and were ready to help when required. SPA - one of the best massages I have had (and I have had a few). Definitely worth a visit. Activities - there is a games room available with board games, table tennis and pool. Excursions - the hotel can arrange excursions for you. We had one to Sigiriya rock. Drivers money charged to the room and all extras were explained before leaving. I thought this was really good as you don’t get any surprises then. Overall we thoroughly enjoyed ourselves and would come back again. Definitely a place to relax for 4-5 days at least.
Hotel is on the best beach in Sri Lanka. The rooms are very spacious and clean The food is very tasty and has a great selection. I have to praise the manager of Chinthak is always available to guests and constantly visits the guests and helps whatever they need. The staff are friendly and want to help whatever they need.
Great Property Even better Service
It was a great experience from the time we stepped into this great property. The staff were always ready to go the extra mile to satisfy the guests. Honestly, we couldn’t have asked for anything more. We enjoyed their very spacious rooms, the infinity swimming pool, sea bath, the games room & indeed the food which they prepared very carefully according to my wife's food allergy requirements. I would like to pass my sincere gratitude to Chintaka (Asst. F&B Manager), Yasantha, Kavinda (Reception), Rohana (F&B Manager), and the whole crew with special thanks to Fairooze, Sachith, Thareek and Farhath for making us feel home with a generous smile & outstanding service throughout our stay of 3 days there & making my wife's birthday 🎂 an unforgettable one. It truly was a real 5 star hotel experience! I guarantee anyone a quality vacation at Uga Bay. 🤩
