Ulagalla is a top rate luxury hotel and the management and service match the highest standards. The villas are lovely, huge bedroom and sitting room and nearly 100% private plunge pool and terrace. We loved the colonial style main building and first floor open dining room, again with perfect service. We weren't quite so keen on the food, we felt the menu was too large and would have preferred a smaller menu with daily changes. The wine is very expensive, but then it is an expensive hotel. The spa is lovely.
Ulagalla is unique
This resort offers pure luxury in the sense of being close to nature, offering sincere and personal service.Great villas. The area is so nice that you don't want to leave. The animals are close and everything is very peaceful. Don't miss the opportunity to have a dinner in their special local style. An experience you will carry with you. We will come back!
The Ulagalla Experience
I can't say enough about how wonderful our Ulagalla experience was. The location of the resort is sublime, and everything from the architectural style of the villas to the landscaping shows a deep-seated respect for the natural environment. The villas are beautifully designed, tastefully decorated, extremely comfortable, and completely private. Each one even comes with its own plunge pool. The menu was excellent with interesting vegetarian choices, and a nice selection of wines. I especially liked that the chef dropped by to ask for feedback and to tell us to feel free to request dishes of our choosing. This review would not be complete without a tribute to the most wonderful team ever! The staff is gracious and kind, and will happily go out of their way to make your stay happy and memorable. My spa experience with Misha was lovely, and the nature walk with Sumith was a definite high point. He has eagle eyes that can spot the tiniest bird from afar, and a wealth of knowledge about local flora and fauna. I was able to see and learn about 21 species of birds, some only found in Sri Lanka. On a final note, I would say that a stay at Ulagalla will create memoires that last a lifetime. I highly recommend it!
It was My Wife, Son (2 Years old ) and I. We stay for 2 nights. We did not go any external excursions spent the full 2 days with the property. Plenty of activities to keep you busy for at least 4 days. Rooms were fantastic and felt so close to nature with so many type of birds and animal all around you. The Food was consistent and excellent. Presentation and service was fast. Staff extremely helpful and friendly Spa was smaller than expected but treatments were satisfactory & relaxing, therapists were very attentive to your needs. Overall great experience and can't wait to be back again with a few more family members.
Beautiful setting, Great Service, Delicious Food!
This is a place where you find serenity. It's a sanctuary. A lovely setting where peacocks and other animals roam freely in your 'back yard'. The rooms are very updated with all of the comforts of a modern luxurious villa. Unfortunately, we only had a night and wish we had an extra day! Friendly and service oriented staff, delicious food at the restaurant. Tips for staying here: the hotel rooms (villas) are spread apart. You can walk, take a buggy or ride a bike back to the main area / reception. If walking is a challenge, you may want to request a closer room. We rode the bikes but it was a bit big for me so had some challenges getting on and off but manageable. Also, there is a lovely looking Sri Lankan restaurant where we would have eaten at but you need to make a reservation ahead of time and we unfortunately didn't have the chance as we checked in that afternoon so make arrangements ahead if that's something you might be interested in. Overall, I was impressed by this hotel and would try other locations in the Uga Escapes group.
