This stylish resort is in an elevated position surrounded by gardens, and winding paths lead down to the beautiful beach where sun loungers are available to hire. The hotel’s architecture is unique in this area, with arches, columns, terraces and courtyards dotted with fountains and palm-filled terracotta pots. The resort is dedicated to relaxation and the garden offers secluded spots to hide yourself away with a good book. Follow paths to the pool area for Balinese beds and hammocks, or head to the spa where you can treat yourself to a ‘smells good enough to eat’ chocolate massage. The three restaurants each feature international and Spanish cuisine as well as Canarian specialities. El Mirador is your stop for breakfast each day while lunch is served at La Pérgola – enjoy Mediterranean delicacies accompanied by Atlantic Ocean views. For dinner be sure to reserve a spot in El Cenador, open Tuesday to Saturday and specialising in food from the Canaries in an elegant and welcoming setting. Throughout the rest of the week you can choose between El Mirador and La Pérgola. The colonial-style suites have classic décor and modern amenities. Junior Suites Side Sea View are spacious and have a canopy bed, a balcony and sea views. Choose one of the Junior Suites Sea View, spacious Junior Suites Superior Sea View or a lavishly spacious Sea View Suite for a little extra luxury.
This beautiful resort’s top coastal position in Costa Adeje sets it apart, just a few minutes’ walk from Puerto Colón Marina and Playa Bobo. Hotel Jardin Tropical has spectacular views over the Atlantic Ocean and a distinctly colonial style with Moorish influences – think domed turrets, thick archways and white-washed walls reminiscent of a Spanish pueblo, and a quaint promenade in the middle. Head to the main pool which winds through palm trees and shrubs, and choose a spot on multi-tiered walkways lined with sun loungers and cosy pool cabanas. A popular kids’ club and family rooms make the hotel perfect if you’re travelling with little ones; if you’re into golf then some of Tenerife’s finest fairways including Golf Costa Adeje and Golf Las Americas are within easy reach, and the hotel also offers special deals for Abama Golf. Hotel Jardin Tropical is one of south Tenerife’s hot spots when it comes to gourmet cuisine – head to Las Rocas Ocean Food and enjoy traditional Spanish flavours, seafood and fantastic views towards another Canary Island, La Gomera, from the terrace. Tuck into Argentinian steaks at the renowned El Churrasco, the speciality Parmigiano Cheese Wheel Pasta at contemporary Italian restaurant Ugo & Vandino and buffet dining at Laguna Food Market, where there’s a real focus on organic local ingredients and different free-flow food stations. Indulge in desserts, juices, coffees and cocktails at five bars including Beach Club Las Rocas, a superb clifftop spot with luxury hammocks, a Beach Bar and a natural saltwater pool. The light and airy rooms have white walls decorated with beautiful mosaic designs, and either a balcony or a terrace. We recommend upgrading from a Standard Room to a Junior Suite, or one of the Club rooms which give you exclusive access to the terrace of the Sunset Bar, including extras such as bamboo Balinese beds and luxury hammocks. You’ll also be able to enjoy The Club's private reception, lounge and terrace with inclusions such as à la carte breakfast, coffee, snacks and free newspapers and magazines.
This charming hotel is tucked in-between Playa de Fañabé and Playa del Duque, a fantastic spot on Tenerife’s south-west coast. It’s a great place to unwind and feel the refreshing sea breeze; the resort is on the beachfront and only a stone’s throw from the water, with a large saltwater pool and a heated freshwater one. Kids and teens can get stuck into a huge range of activities at Iberostar’s newly launched Star Camp, leaving you to enjoy a day of cocktails, sunbathing or bespoke treatments at the elegant Sensations Spa. There’s a great choice of restaurants and bars here. Enjoy à la carte dinner at Poseidón Gourmet Restaurant, Italian cuisine at Portofino Restaurant and snacks at Barbacoa Restaurant. For a wide selection of international food head to Zeus Restaurant and enjoy different buffets; watch hot desserts prepared live every evening and indulge in white or dark chocolate fountains. Barito Pool Bar and Zumería Pool Snack Bar are both ideal for taking a midday or afternoon drinks break, and the Hall Bar has live music and great cocktails. The spacious rooms have a cool and modern Mediterranean vibe about them – white walls plus tiled private terraces and balconies – and many have luxurious Chromatherapy showers. You’ll be able to soak up either garden or side sea views from Standard Rooms; treat yourself and upgrade to a Suite Sea View for extra living space and beautiful frontal views over the ocean.
This gem of a resort in Guía de Isora is a great think-outside-the-box option, just a six-minute drive from tiny Playa de Abama and with the feel of a luxury hotel. But there’s a twist – it’s made up of exclusive one- to four-bedroom apartments, set between the first two holes of the world-famous Abama golf course with its white-sand bunkers, lakes linked by waterfalls and 25,000 palm trees. Winding walkways lead to a long, slim pool and the suites have white-washed walls, sloping roofs and open terraces. Settle in and soak up the average year-round temperature of 23°C and views over La Gomera and the Atlantic Ocean. The apartments are on a self-catered room-only basis, but you can still treat yourself to breakfast and dining at the on-site Melvin Restaurant. There’s a beautiful al fresco terrace as well as a Spanish-cuisine menu designed by ten Michelin starred-chef Martín Berasategui, featuring a great range of creative and freshly made dishes. The suites here are spectacular and have stylish features including marble flooring. Each comes with a private terrace, many with views over the golf course or the sea. They also have state-of-the-art kitchens and dining areas, perfect if you’re self-catering – the nearest supermarket is just a 10-minute drive away in San Juan. For more space and added luxury, we recommend upgrading to a Two or Three Bedroom Standard Suite.
The tranquil Colón Guanahaní cocoons you from the buzz of Costa Adeje, but its central location makes it easy to dip in and out of the scene. This is the kind of place where first-time guests quickly become regulars, returning to be warmly greeted by name. It’s easy to see the appeal: the pace shifts down a few glorious gears in this sun-drenched corner of Tenerife. The action centres around two outdoor pools, where sun-seekers lie on parasol-shaded loungers during the day, hopping up only for colourful cocktails. If you’re quick, you can nab one of the prime perches on the sundeck of the rooftop plunge pool, which looks out over the ocean. In the afternoon, a few slip away to the small spa for massages, while others walk the five-minute route to Playa de Fañabé. As the sun sinks, crowds begin to gather around tables in the outdoor courtyard, lined by tall palms and jacaranda trees. Some stay poolside at La Pérgola to share plates of aromatic tapas and linger over local wines. Others head out to explore the shops, bars and restaurants of Fañabé, a dynamic district in Costa Adeje. And after long, balmy days, rooms and suites are inviting retreats, splashed in pastel blues and sea greens; some overlook the palm-strewn courtyard, others open onto pool-view balconies. Book a Standard Double Balcony or Terrace Room to gaze out over the city’s terracotta roofs, or a Standard Balcony or Terrace Suite for a spacious pad with enough room for a lounge area and a freestanding tub in the bathroom.
As you head north across Tenerife, the sun-baked south gives way to cool mountains and a rocky shoreline; barren vistas stark against their lush alter-egos. It's on the dramatic northern coastline that Garachico can be found, huddled at the foot of forested slopes. This underdeveloped corner of the island is rich in Canarian heritage, with well-preserved architecture, volcanic coves and lava-sculpted landscapes. The pretty town brims with tiny artisan shops, traditional bars and family-run restaurants, many concealed behind colourful façades. Boutique Hotel San Roque can be found on a quiet street, just off the village’s Pueblo-style square, which buzzes with life after dark. Rooted in its surroundings, the terracotta-hued hotel has a strong sense of place. A cluster of Canarian-style buildings is arranged around the central courtyard, strewn with fanning palms and pale armchairs, and the outdoor pool, which is carved into volcanic rock. White-linen dining tables spill out from the restaurant and line the turquoise splash of water, illuminated by lamps at night. To one side, an outdoor terrace overlooks the ocean, to a soundtrack of waves lashing the rocks. Each of the 20 rooms and suites is individually decorated, some with deep teal and terracotta tones, others with muted tangerine or rich latte hues. All are decked out with Bauhaus-era furniture and original artwork. Push the boat out and book the La Torre Suite – this stunning cocoon is set in a former watchtower, with a corner hot tub and private terrace looking out over the sea and mountains.
Iberostar Selection Sábila is a sleek big-hitter on the Costa Adeje, attracting a young stylish crowd to its buzzy vibe and minimalist interiors. It has everything you need for a beach getaway: a trio of outdoor pools, spa, three bars, café and two restaurants – one a hip market with street-food stalls and live music. If that isn’t enough for you, the hotel rubs shoulders with a cluster of bars, restaurants and shops, backing onto Torviscas Beach. This is luxury, minus the pretentiousness you can get with some five-star abodes. The hotel design is arranged around a central oblong glass atrium, which opens up over sultry summers. Rooms are cool and contemporary, with huge wall murals and butter-soft throws in blush-pink hues. Each opens onto a private balcony or terrace; some with Atlantic Ocean views, others with mountain panoramas. Upgrade to a Star Prestige room or suite to make use of an exclusive rooftop area with an outdoor pool and open bar with drinks and snacks. The hotel has also introduced a ban on single-use plastic. Here, you can shift gears depending on your mood: unwind with a massage and yoga sessions, head down to powder-soft sands, or go diving to explore Tenerife’s underwater playground.
This dusky sandstone fortress rises above the ocean like a giant sand castle, its coral-pink turrets blushing wildly at sunset. Sheraton La Caleta Resort & Spa is tucked away among tall palms, in a quiet corner of the Costa Adeje. This southern sliver of Tenerife may not be known for its peaceful tranquillity, but Sheraton La Caleta breaks the mould. A clever use of design amplifies the hushed relaxation vibe: lush gardens wrap around shady terraces, two curvaceous outdoor pools, a spa and tennis courts. Tiny islands of tropical plants are a riot of colour among the tangle of emerald fronds and shallow ponds filled with carp. The retreat tumbles down onto the five-mile-long seafront promenade. For all the sea views, minus the sand, stake a claim on one of the sun loungers on the manicured lawns. Inside, floor-to-ceiling glass floods interiors with light, casting a warm glow on elegant staircases and cream columns. Ironwork chandeliers and earth-toned furnishings nod to its colonial past. This style streams through to rooms and suites, which are splashed in subdued shades of ivory and bronze and decked out with wicker furniture. A handful of restaurants span Japanese, Spanish and Mediterranean cuisine, while two bars are perfect for a sundowner – the terrace bar with rattan scoop chairs is a standout.
