Firstly you should know that booking this hotel was an entirely last minute thing, with practically no research before hand. We found a hotel in the north of the island and booked it that day and arrived 2 hours later. For such an impromptu booking, we really could not have picked a better place to stay. Based in a small town that has not been ruined by tourism, this hotel stands alone and within it creates a paradise of wellness and tranquility. It is German run, and as such is one of the cleanest hotels I’ve had the pleasure to stay in. The detail, the little touches, everything is well thought out. The building itself displays such beautiful symmetry- will all rooms enjoying the pleasure of a beautiful sea view, even the glass barrier on the balcony meets the top of the horizon perfectly when you sit down on the recliners. The pool is heated, with 3 perfectly placed palm trees framing the sea view. Breakfast is included and the food is fresh and healthy. Sorry, no baked beans and hash browns here. The staff are professional and kind. Axel at the front desk is friendly and helpful and was a particular favourite of mine. In the morning you can welcome the day in with a complimentary ‘yoga-esque’ class, which is invigorating with small classes and attentive instructors. You can play tennis (beware- the tennis court is a sun trap), there’s table tennis in the basement, and I think on the third floor there’s even a library. The focus of this hotel is wellness. The food is fresh (they serve Canarian and international choices for lunch as well as afternoon snacks, with a set menus in the evening), you can’t buy alcohol on site until 5pm from the amazing rooftop bar (which provides 360 views and has a very friendly and attentive bar man), and on a Friday they have local jazz players entertain you as the sun sets. This is not your typical soulless hotel resort, and we LOVED it. The rooms are clean, spacious and comfortable. Water is provided for free from water fountains- all part of reducing waste. They even plant a tree for every time you book directly with them rather than a third party site. The hotel director is on site regularly- ensuring standards remain high, talking to the guests and greeting them as if they were friends. He is clearly very proud of his hotel and absolutely should be. Locally, there is a great pizza place around the corner from the hotel where pizza and wine is great and super cheap (local prices), and the next town along, Bajamar, is a 20 minute stroll. Wander along the coast the other way and you come across a lighthouse that resembles something from Superman- fortress of solitude comes to mind... You’re not staying up the north of the island for adventure or for a great deal of sunbathing weather, but your soul will thank you for booking your stay at this hotel- take my word for it.
My first time in Tenerife. Hotel Océano has been a perfect choice. Unique location. Nothing better than sleeping with the sound of the ocean and waking up with breathtaking view. Wonderful property with an exquisite taste in terms of furniture and decoration. My room was wide and perfect with a terrace. I loved breakfast with all genuine and natural products. Every evening I had dinner at La Marea restaurant with delicious food. SPA facilities met my needs. Staff was always ready to assist me and cheerful. The hotel has a special eye on details and discretion offered to its clients. I loved the pool and the park... and the drinks at the rooftop bar of course! I've rarely experienced all this in one hotel. My compliments to the management. .... Can't wait to come back!
This remains an outstanding hotel in an unbeatable location!
In 2018 I wrote a review of this hotel in which I emphasised how outstanding it was in multiple respects - and this review is intended simply to supplement that one. Having recently been lucky enough to return to the hotel, I should simply like to emphasise that it remains outstanding. Indeed, if possible (which I would have regarded as unlikely when I was last there!), it is now even better than before having undergone significant refurbishment improvements. Among the highlights of that refurbishment are a new building containing a new gym with brand new gym equipment, spacious rooms for exercise, yoga, pilates etc and an impressively newly resurfaced tennis court. The swimming pool has also been moved by 90° so that you now swim one length looking directly at the beautiful combination of sea, palm trees and mountains which make this place so unique. The staff remain exceptionally friendly, as is the impressive new manager of the hotel who is both very helpful to guests and also appears popular among the staff. Furthermore, the overall standard of the rooms, the dining room and the comfort that guests enjoy remains fantastic. Once again, I cannot recommend this place highly enough if you are after a good and healthy rest in a wonderful setting!
Great if you're looking for some quiet
The hotel is managed by German people, and guests are mainly Germans. This means that everything is new, clean and tidy and rooms are as immaculate as they can be. This also means that the restaurant cuisine is German - probably not to discombombulate the guests with the flaboyant Canarian recipes. With that said, let me get to what made worth to me being here - on top of all the rooms having Ocean view, live music events, bespoke readings (in German only) and the rooftop with an amazing view on Punta del Hidalgo: the Spanish personnel, who always went the extra mile to made me feel comfortable. Just as an example, the maitre-de-salle didn't hesitate an instant to personally prepare me a cocktail (an excellent Negroni sbagliato) because the bartender was already busy - muchisima gracias, Señora Gara, Usted es un ejemplo de profesionalidad ! I will definitely be back, and hopefully I will find the same Spanish personnel.
Almost like paradise..
Beautiful, quiet place to rest and enjoy the sun and sea. Yoga classes were excellent, food was good. Near the sea. All rooms have a balcony and view to the sea. No children around, no noisy restaurants. A perfect place in the middle of winter.
