Where science and nature meet
If you are looking for a reasonably-priced situation where nobody bothers you, you can stare at the ocean for hours (and swim in it easily thanks to a seawater pool located just opposite the hotel), with a good spa that performs most treatments (including Ayurveda), and where the sky is almost permanently turquoise, this is the place for you. The staff is all kind and helpful and some of its members will go the extra mile to make you happy (Alexander at the reception, Raul, Riccardo and Valentina at the Spa, Ariane at the restaurant, Maria and Marieli at the medical center, just to mention a few). At Oceano, they take dieting and fasting seriously. They follow the nutrition school developed by Dr Franz Xaver Mayr, who was (rightly) convinced that bad diet was the root of many modern health problems. Which could have resulted in excessive medical supervision, except that it doesn’t - and the doctors take your weight only at the beginning and at the end of your stay, eliminating that holiday-ruining obsession (A special mention goes to Dr Kettenhuber for being someone that looks at human weaknesses with empathy and compassion and for giving me very practical advice on what to do at my return home!) This is also the place for you if you are looking for a protected venue but which you can at times leave and do your own things (like walking on the many pathways the area has to offer) though be warned that the only shops at walking distance are a bar, a pharmacy and a bank (and some fish restaurants). This is not the place for you if you are looking for a luxury service, spa, room, and so on. But then, as I said, Oceano is reasonably priced so that expectation would be unjustified. Some of the facilities are a little old but renovation works are starting in June 2019 and there will be a brand new treatment center in October (hopefully prices will not go up). The hotel’s natural surroundings are beautifully wild (black lavic stone, the Vulcan always in sight, the ocean’s waves lulling you to sleep), wisely reminding us that rather than a Mayr cure or any other treatment, the secret to solve our inner issues lies in a balanced relationship with ourselves as lucky guests of a stunning planet.
Disappointing and very limited in services
The hotel decor is very old, feels like run down, the food tastes re-heated, outdoor space much smaller than in pictures. I was very disappointed by the fact that they claim to have ayurvedic services and in reality they are very hard to boo, don't have an ayurvedic doctor on site but only apparently a masseuse and with very limited availability. This is not what it is advertised or what I was told when I called to book. This hotel is only good probably for their diet services. Also the open garden is much smaller than what is shown on the website. The manager very inflexible and still charged me for the full stay, with just a minor discount, despite the fact that what they offered was not what they said when I booked. I found this a not very friendly customer service. The operational staff is otherwise very kind.
When you land in TFS you feel like you are the only one going in the opposite direction than all other tourists and busses...you think is this really the right direction. Yes it is the right direction to an oasis of tranquility and relaxation in the furthest northern part of the island with the road stopping right in the village where you see just pure nature and ocean. Every hotel room has a top view of the Teide, every room has guaranteed wave sound to fall asleep like a baby and with all comfort. Garden is really relaxing with a salt water pool and with a 45sec walk access to the sea for a swim. If you are looking for a relaxing stay with top service and nature you are at the right place. I was just there for the 4th time and will go again to relax and do the Mayr cure / detox which really is relaxing and helpful. I'd recommend this hotel to anyone looking for an alternative to the busy and noisy south of the island.
A hotel with fantástic views to the sea
