Nice hotel and location - warm food, little choice and not enough staff or sun beds.
We recently returned from a lovely week away in beautiful Lanzarote. Weather amazing and the location of the hotel was perfect. The hotel is beautiful and spotlessly clean. The pool areas both stunning. All the staff we met were so nice, professional and hardworking. They did everything they could to make sure everyone had a lovely stay. Our room was 6th floor, same floor as reception and evening entertainment- we were never disturbed by noise and had a great view. We totally accepted COVID rules (masks in doors etc) and felt very safe. Branded drinks and low key evening entertainment which ranged from OK to great fun but all nonetheless fine with us. The SPA is excellent and we thought treatments well priced. But…. We found ourselves joining the 7am rush for sun beds and although more beds were put out, there wasn’t enough, it was only after lots of complaints. Very few umbrellas. First few days food was warmish but after lots of complaints from guests this improved which was better. Choices in the a la carte restaurants were poor. Steaks come solo on plates and we were told in one restaurant no sides available- so my husband just had steak on its own as a main. We ate 3/7 nights in the Marina, which has great choices of restaurants. The food at the hotel is NOT as good as at the Marina despite the hotels reassurances. Privileged pool bar lunch menu and food was the best in the hotel. Not enough staff - especially at the privileged pool bar where we would queue for drinks and have long waits for lunch. The staff worked so hard there so we never complained but it did seem unfair on them and us. Last few days we had pool service in the afternoons by the nicest staff which helped reduce the queues. The hotel could be amazing and we would return if the hotel management employed more staff, increased food choices in the a la cartes, served hot food, put out enough sun beds and umbrellas. We paid for privileged room etc but not sure if this was worth it unless changes made.
I have recently returned from another fantastic 2 weeks’ stay at this wonderful hotel. From the moment I arrived, the friendly and professional staff made me feel welcome. Everyone looked after me as a single traveller and I couldn't have felt more welcome and safe. The hotel has been refurbished in the last couple of years and I stayed in a very large room with a supremely comfortable bed, new smart TV, walk in shower & a beautiful view of the well maintained tropical grounds & the ocean from the balcony. You can really relax here; there is so much space & a real sense of calm. I had two lovely treatments at the Spa & highly recommend the Volcano signature scrub & moisturising treatment. I’ve never experienced such spacious treatment rooms. Everything is spotlessly clean & the hotel is taking guest safety in respect of Covid very seriously. The buffet breakfast & evening meal was extensive, varied & suited me perfectly, although there are other a la carte restaurants on offer if you fancy a change. As a professional musician, I also wanted to mention the evening musical entertainment which was of particularly high quality. This is my go to hotel in Lanzarote. Bravo to everyone on the Secrets Team. I will see you soon! Helen Reid
Definitely Got Potential
Just spent 7 Nights all inclusive Preferred + Don’t compare to Secrets Resort’s long haul Secret Resorts or similar brands ,there’s no comparison and the cost of the holiday reflect this Got to say have stayed in a lot better 5 Star and a lot worse 5 Star having visited Lanzarote over 40 times in 11 yeas I can honestly say the only true 5 Star Hotel on the island is the Princess Yaiza in Playa Blanca however a week at the Princess Yaiza B&B will cost you more than a week at Secrets Lanzarote going all inclusive Preferred + notwithstanding the Yiiaza is not adults only and is full of children hence i would choose Secrets all day long Secrets Lanzarote Is Not a 5 Star Deluxe it is Def Canarian 5 Star The Plus Points Great Location Great Staff Very Good Rooms 60 Inch Smart tv in the rooms Premium Brand Alcohol & Bottled mixers Entertainment excellent Good mix of clientele Flip side A la carte restaurants sub standard Food in general substandard Severally Understaffed We ate out most nights however we do this everywhere we go so wasn’t really a issue with the food however Ivan fully understand why there was a lot of unhappy customers complaining as it definitely isn’t what is advertised. I spoke with customer relations regarding this & hotel are fully aware of the issues regarding the food and are putting in measures to rectify the issues mainly sourcing better produce and the appointment of a Head Chef apparently from mainland Spain 🇪🇸 Got to say in all we had a excellent time at Secrets Lanzarote very relaxing and enjoyable stay and in my opinion excellent value for money , not everything about the holiday about food , we have booked another week returning in December The hotel are using there best endeavours to bring the resort up to the required standards based on Secrets Resorts ethos notwithstanding when they do expect a massive hike in price and rightly so you get what you pay for Disappointed I was removed from Secrets Traveler's page on FB due to highlighting the issues with the food utopia doesn’t exist no point having a forum if you can’t take any constructive criticism! as you can see my review is more than fair and reasonable
Easy check in with efficient and friendly staff and a glass or two of cava and although we arrived in the morning the room was ready. A tick in the box from the start. The room was lovely overlooking the pool and the ocean. We did ask to be moved has the room was on the same level as the piano bar which could be heard in the room. This was arranged immediately to a top floor room away from the piano bar. Another tick in the box. The food is ok. We found something to eat when we ate in the hotel but we also ate out at The Marina. The biggest bug bear of all for us was the sun bed situation.......who on earth gets up while it’s still dark (6-6.30am) to put towels on sun beds when they are on holiday!! Then don’t park themselves on said sun beds until after lunch or not at all. The hotel really needs to implement some rules regarding towels on sun beds. The hotel is in a perfect spot with an easy walk to The Marina and with a few tweaks here and there would be perfect. All staff in all areas of the hotel were very hardworking and friendly. Leiana at reception was exceptional has was the hardest working barmen ( didn’t manage to get his name) in the pool bar which unfortunately during the day was the only place to get a drink so queues could often be lengthy at times. He really worked his socks off.
If paying the 5* price, don’t go!!
I’ll start by saying, the hotel itself is lovely. The room is really spacious, lovely bed, well stocked mini bar, huge television and great view (we had pool and sea view). The pools are clean and plenty space, the grounds are kept very well and the reception area is grand and a generally nice place to be. Other than this, if you have booked based on what is sold on the operator website - all inclusive plus in a five star resort with multiple restaurants, poolside service etc etc… you will be extremely disappointed. They have several pool areas, however you’ll struggle to get a bed (and bare in mind this is during reduced capacity) and see daily fights between folk launching towels from beds etc. Really 5 star that…… You cant fault the efforts of the staff who are here but they’re so very short staffed. You will find no poolside service for drinks, instead you’ll find yourself queuing up to 30 mins for a drink at the one bar open. You will not find a selection of restaurants, you’ll find one or if you’re lucky two, which only serve 2 options of starter and main and never change the menu, you’ll find an ok ‘world buffet’ with good attentive staff and a reasonable selection - in fact, other than eating out of the hotel, this was the only acceptable option and I’d mainly put that down to service. We twice had to ask reception to have someone clean our room after returning at 6.30pm to get ready. We twice got told that we must have said do not disturb, which we didn’t - told we were lying and no apology? Not good enough. It’s a nice location, a lovely little walk to the marina if you’re bed and breakfast, a 10-15 euro taxi to a local ‘Benidorm’ type location of you want to go out. Overall, it’s an enjoyable setting to spend your time in the sun, however if you’re expecting a 5 star resort, don’t bother!!
