We miss you Gran Tagoro
We were due to be coming for our 6th year in a row this weekend, and are devastated not to be able to make the trip. We love the hotel and the staff who all work so hard to make our annual family holiday such a relaxing and enjoyable time. We send our best wishes to all the staff at the hotel and look forward to seeing you next year! Tringham - Charles Family
Thank you to all the staff at The Gran Castillo Tagoro for another lovely holiday and for looking after us so well. The food was delicious as always and we loved the new makeover of the Los Coloradas restaurant. Our rooms were wonderfully spacious and comfortable. We hope to visit you again very soon. Stay safe and well xxxx
Such a lovely week
Not busy which may have helped but staff were lovely, hotel was clean, lots of activities and the family loved it! Food was great and changed nightly. Not much to do around the resort as far as we could see but the place is huge so we didn’t mind. Spa was lovely and our little boy had lots of fun in the pools. Would go back!
Good, but could be great...
I booked this hotel for my wife’s 40th birthday celebration. I booked a 5 star hotel to make sure it was that little bit special but let’s be clear, this is not a 5 star hotel, it is a decent 4 star at best. Reception staff on arrival were excellent so first impressions were good. The room was huge but the decor and furniture was a little dated and in need of a refresh. Another gripe, I booked a double so finding 2 single beds for a romantic break was very disappointing. I knew this was a family hotel when I booked it and as we have 4 kids back home we didn’t think it would be a problem seeing a few others. Maybe we were lucky with the week we were there but we had no issues with kids running about? The main restaurant was the absolute best thing about the hotel. We sat out in the adults only “pontoon” section over the pool every day/night. The service from the waiting staff was the best we have ever experienced, they are a credit to the hotel and appeared to generally care about the guests. The only truly 5 star experience in the hotel. The food was also really good and we always found something to enjoy each visit. The Italian “a la carte” restaurant however was a big disappointment. Self service starters and desserts in a very brightly lit room was not what I expected. We sat at the main pool rather than the adults pool as there was a little more “atmosphere” although still pretty quiet to be fair. My main complaint about the pool is that it is difficult to find a place to lie which is not shaded? I wanted to lie in the sun all day and that proved almost impossible. I found the pool bar staff ranging between quite distant and rude, apart from the girl with short hair who was excellent. If you are going to promote yourself as a 5 star resort then fresh cocktails must be available not a couple of warm jugs of pre-mixed rubbish. I’ve seen a couple of other reviews saying that pink gin was served but I was told “no” on a couple of occasions? We walked into Playa Blanca a couple of times in search of some entertainment as the hotel entertainment is pretty much non existent. A really nice walk along the promenade (about 30 mins) but taxi’s cheap if you don’t like walking distances. In summary, restaurant service 5 star, restaurant food 4 star, rest of hotel 3-4 star at best.
Myself and a friend have recently returned from this hotel during this uncertain time so I am writing this review based solely on our actual holiday experience and not once we were on lock down. The hotel is clearly aimed at families and although we knew this we did not imagine that during March there would be quite so many children there ! There is an adult only pool with bar and also a couple of areas in the restaurant dedicated to adults only. The pool and bar were fine but the restaurant was like a zoo !! So noisy despite being in the adult area even at 9pm ! Of an evening children running around until very late and parents not having any consideration for adults on their holidays. Children running up and down the corridors first thing in the morning too. On the plus side the room was huge and the bathroom also and it was all spotlessly clean. The food was exceptional and a lot of choice, the wine free flowing and very good too ! We didn't go to any of the entertainment but gathered it was mainly for the children. This is a great hotel for families with children and also ideal if you are going as a large family group including grandparents but sadly as a couple of friends it was not ideal.
