My family and I stayed in the Gran Tagoro in February 2020. There seemed to on occasions problems with staffing in the hotel. Reception was slow on the day we arrived. We stayed in a family room which was very clean and spacious and was cleaned daily to a very good standard. The food was to a good standard but again on occasions one was left waiting due to staffing issues, with tables not being cleared etc. The pools were very good however the toilets in the main pool area were not regularly cleaned. Children's entertainment was good but was not varied with the same show every night we were there. The bar staff were excellent and all the staff were very friendly. All that said I would recommend the Gran Tagoro for a short break.
All you need
Fantastic hotel with staff who are second to none. Everything you need is here, if you have children, this hotel is a no brainer. Park, indoor soft play, small pool with slides, constant entertainment, crèche and the staff throughout do a fantastic job. And even if you’re holidaying without children, you’re spoilt for choice in regards to pools, with two adult only sections for that peace away from the family’s, sports bar on site also. We travelled with a young toddler and she absolutely loved it here so much so, we’re back in May and we never stay at the same hotel twice so that must mean something. Only concern is the doors for the rooms have no safety lock to stop children opening the door from the inside, like a chain etc that is out of reach, so we did find ourselves barricading the door at night incase our 2 year old decided to wake and have a wander, maybe over cautious but with kids you need eyes everywhere. Maybe management could possibly provide this? Overall, we love this place!!
Perfect first holiday with my 1 year old
We have just come back from a magical week in Lanzarote in the Gran Castillo hotel. I raised some concerns about the room choice I had made in advance of my arrival (given my 1 year old) and upon arrival we were very happy to see that this had been taken in to consideration and our room had been changed (and complimentary too!). So before we even started our holiday we were already pleased with the service. The stay itself was lovely. The main buffet food was excellent, the small baby pools were warm enough for my little girl to stay in for longer periods of time, the Italian a la carte food was some of the best food I've ever had (the Tuna was a delight). The staff were always smiling, whether they were in the restaurant, the babyclub, the mini-disco etc. We actually had our flight home cancelled on our final day and were put in to a 3 star all inclusive. I will not name names but can comfortable say I would be more than happy to pay the small premium to go 5 start with Gran Castillo over 3 star as the service and quality is head and shoulders above lower gradings. The only feedback I would say is that the sofas are not the comfiest and the rooms decor is a little dated. I would also say if there was any chance to start dinner earlier (say 6pm) this would be accommodating for those with younger children who go to bed earlier.
How, in this day and age, can a hotel “over book”? Like others, we received a telephone call from our package providers approximately 24 hours before we were due to fly advising us that the Hotelier had over booked and there was no availability for us.... 24 hours!!! Fortunately, Jet2holidays were fantastic and we were swiftly booked in at the H10 Rubicon Palace which, so far, doesn’t appear too shabby 😂 Very disappointed with the management of Gran Castillo (we booked last September!) but cannot praise Jet2holidays enough. We probably WILL use Jet2holidays again, not so sure about the Gran Castillo.
Do Not Stay Here!!
Absolutely do not book this hotel! Booked a wonderful family break several months ago, for half term break. Was looking forward to the two bedroom suite we’d reserved in a family friendly hotel with our 2 and 5 year old. Two days before we were due to arrive (today), they called and said they were over booked and that we’d been moved to a different hotel in the area. I complained that this new one was not very nice and they replied indicating they understood any my original booking would be honored. Less than 24 hours later they called again, explaining that it was overbooked and that we’d been moved yet again. Since clearly we had no choice, we’re now at the new hotel. Paid for a two bedroom suite and now in a one bedroom as that’s the best the new hotel has. paid for a family resort and now in one where the median age is 60. Paid for activities and in a resort that has none. Yes, they said we could still walk to Gran Castillo and use the stuff there, but who is really going to do that with a 2 and 5 year old. Never book with them. Clearly no care about honoring reservations or caring about their guests.
