Family Friendly. Nice Resort
Staff were very friendly and attentive. Approx. 40 mins away from the airport transfer by taxi €45-50. Entertainment every evening. Huge selection of food on offer at the buffet. Snack bar right beside the swimming pools serving hot-dogs, burgers, salads and ice cream. Really enjoyed our stay. Activities nearby incl. Segway highly recommended
Excellent Family resort
Everything excellent, resort. facilities, rooms. food , friendly helpful staff. All inclusive package proved excellent. A little busy at peak time Restaurant times gave great flexibility. Able to facilitate large groups. Great range of food etc
Great family hotel
Summary: Very good hotel for families with young kids. We will be back. We have been visiting for 3 years now. To be honest, we have noticed standards slipping in some areas (there is obviously cost cutting happening) but nothing that would prevent us returning. Swimming Pools: 4 pool areas. Main pool area: Very nice, 3 pools with lots of space around. Only problem here is people reserving sun beds from very early in the morning and then not using them. I never once saw staff enforcing the rule against this. If the rules were enforced, there would always be plenty of beds available when people required them. This is major problem which I heard lots of guests complaining about. Adult only pool: Very nice with Jacuzzi, pool bar. Very quiet & relaxing. Kids pool: Ideal for young kids, with small water slides. Tip: Put pool shoes on your kids. Food: Main buffet restaurant: Recently refurbished. Excellent quality food and good selection for breakfast, lunch and (especially) dinner. Italian restaurant: Very nice ambience & food. Disappointingly, the Chinese restaurant which closed down in June remains closed, so choice is limited to the main buffet or the Italian. Pay restaurant (Sansofe): English translations on the menu are very poor (almost comedic). This almost prevented us going. But we took a chance and really enjoyed it. Despite the sound of the menu, the food was beautiful and we had a lovely (kid-free) meal. The house wines are very nice and served from bottles. Spa: Although this was our 5th stay in the hotel, it’s the first time we used the spa. I will definitely use it again. This is a greatly under promoted facility. Excellent massages and reasonably priced. Very friendly & helpful staff. Entertainment: The animation staff are so hard-working and friendly and brilliant with the kids. We were there for Halloween and they made a big effort to make the day special. There was a magic show one night which was very enjoyable for adults and kids. Small suggestion: Have 2 microphones for karaoke! Live Music: Outdoor live music on the large terrace is big positive feature of this hotel, which we really enjoy. Unfortunately there was less live music this time (4 out of 9 nights I think). The quality of musicians is also much lower than previous years. Nonetheless, we really enjoyed it when it was on. Miniclub: Runs twice a day, every day. Kids really love it and the animation staff. In previous years, miniclub ran from 10:30 to 13:00 (2.5 hours). The hours are shorter now, 11:00 to 12:45 (1.75 hours) which is very disappointing. 2.5 hours was perfect for both parents and kids, 1.75 hours is too short and the staff often start a few minutes late which is annoying and shortens the time even more. Rooms: Spacious and comfortable beds.
Review of Dream Gran Castillo
The hotel is well appointed and the service is good Excellent food but it’s probably the noisiest place I have ever visited We came for half term week with our daughter and grandchildren and it was quite noisy but some adult friends came to stay with us for the second week when we thought things may be quieter. But not so. Loads of pre school and infant children many with parents who just let them squawk and cry. Not the children’s fault but still very irritating Also on the fringe of Playa Blanca which may or may not be an issue Whatever, despite having stayed here about 10 years ago, I would not come back again We visited the Volcane and the Timanfaya Pricess both of which are far better suited to an adult holiday break
No way near a 5 star
I will start with the positives to try and be balanced. Positives: 1. good pools and clean 2. Reception staff and kids club staff are very good and obviously work very hard. Negatives: 1. needs a good refurb as everything is looking tired. 2. Buffet although plentiful, very bland. 3. Both my children cut their feet as the pool floor is very rough. My youngest even cut his finger on a broken tile. We reported the incident and a floor sign was put over the tile so we presumed it would then be fixed. Following day the sign was removed and the tile remained ready for someone else to have the same fate. 4. Probably the biggest negative for me is the lack of consideration for all. I am currently writing this whilst YMCA blasts out over really loud speakers and will continue to do so until midnight. I appreciate that people on holiday want music but why it has to be blasted out stopping those living around the reception area from sleeping is beyond me. 5. Staff in the buffet are rude and surly. All in all not a great stay I am afraid and as the title suggests there is no way this hotel is five star. For anyone travelling from the UK this is travelodge quality with decent pools.
