FOOD WAS THE BIGGEST LET DOWN
The entrance of this hotel has the WOW. Our check in by DORA was so smooth and she made it so easy. What a pleasant lady. Our room was OK but not as modern as we had hoped. But very very clean so that made us happy. The 3 things that let this hotel down was the the FOOD , RESTAURANT, AND ONLY 1 BAR OPEN on the night due to COVID. The food was in my opinion one of the worst I’ve seen, I’m a vegetarian and the only soup was goulash with pieces of meat in or fish soup with bits in.....I was upset.....I then went to get pasta and the chef just pointed at what was pre made and he would not make any fresh. Also considering Covid the restaurant had no order or organisation so everyone was bumping into you....it was not good......the crackers for the dessert were soft overall the buffet and restaurant was a huge letdown. Then on the night only 1 bar open so everyone was then in one space and due to Covid this is not good so we sat in an area with a drink that was shut....so we then felt safe but I was upset as on the web it did not say that these bars are all closed. Overall not happy and we would not return.
The SPA that is beautifully marketed on all their sales channels lured us to choose this hotel. The SPA is by the way closed because of COVID. The gym is closed too. And since that information is somewhere in the fineprints on booking.com they will refuse you any refunds or other compensation. The food is average. The heated pool is not heated. There is no entertainment. And there is generally nothing to do at this so called 5 star hotel. Don’t come here. It’s not worth the money you will spend.
Nice Hotel & Grand Reception
Stunning reception and entrance. All staff consistently followed high levels of hygiene standards as we stayed during the COVID situation. There were numerous pools to use and the sun beds were plentiful and disinfected through out the day. This was not the hotel that we had originally booked as a result of COVID and whilst it is rated as a five star it came with a level of impersonality and lack of attention when in the restaurant. On a number of occasions we had to wait circa ten minutes to get tea/coffee for breakfast and the food was regularly either overcooked or cold. Christmas Day at the hotel was disappointing, whilst decorations were up it was very understated with very limited celebrations and acknowledgement of the day and the evening buffet choices did not offer any sign of any traditional Christmas food options. The room was a standard double and whilst it came with a walk in closet the room it’s self was dark and dull with no view; we were advised that this was the quality of the room that we had been assigned by our tour operator. We believe that we lost something in the standard of the room that we had been assigned as a result of the transfer against other hotel facilities that should have been open but weren’t due to COVID. Overall a nice hotel and we are truly grateful for being able to spend seven days away with the Villa del Conde placing a focus on ensuring guests were safe but the hotel 🏨 is not for us.
Wonderful Winter Break
We were given this hotel as an alternative due to the hotel we were previously booked in to was closed due to the pandemic and what a absolute joyful surprise it was. The hotel itself is gorgeous from when you are greeted by the grand reception area that was more like being in a castle or cathedral. We were greeted by Ana when checking in and she was most helpful in explaining what was closed within the hotel due to the pandemic. We was allocated a standard room in block E on the 3rd floor and the view as you can see was of part of a garden and partial sea view. The room was huge and very clean and the bathroom was well set out. Having a separate bath and shower is always a blessing. Also in the room we had a separate walk in closet which had 2 beach towels and a bag that you can use for taking by the pool. Also in the bathroom was 2 bathrobes which was a very nice touch. We had the choice of paying as we went along or prepay approximately £200 and you just charged drinks to the room. Which we choose to do. You pay for drinks and food by using your room card this way and we found that a great way. The staff were friendly and if you were by the pool a waiter came round to take drink orders. I am not sure if that is because the pool bar was closed and even though the hotel was far from full I think for us we would have liked to see this open. There is also a restaurant that served lunch by the pool. We never eat there but the food look delicious! You can also go in there to order drinks for around the pool if the waiter was not walking around. The pool area has plenty of sun beds and once you moved your towel they disinfectant the bed and put sticker on to show it’s been done. We stayed bed and breakfast and due to he pandemic was asked if we minded at set time for breakfast and was allocated 9am which was fine for us. Breakfast is good. The restaurant staff show you to a table abs ask if you want tea or coffee and the bring it to your table. As for the buffet style food all stations as manned by staff and they serve you so it stops people touching the bread, fruit etc which I thought was a really fantastic idea. You can order omelet to your taste abs have what fillings you wish. There is also fried, boiled and scrambled eggs at the same station. There is also bacon and tomatoes. The fruit is already pre cut and in glasses so you can just pick what you want. The same goes for the cold meats and cheese stations. You can also have pancakes and pastries which again is served to you. The bread station again you choose what you want and this served to you and if you want toast you say how many slices you want and they toast it for you. There is also a courtyard which serves drinks and where the entertainment is situated. As the hotel was really quiet there really wasn’t a atmosphere as such as there were only a few people each night watching the singer or listen to the DJ. If I had to say anything negative it would be that the waiting staff could have been a little more attentive as you could wait for someone to come over for a while which if the hotel was full I wouldn’t mind but it’s only a little niggle nothing major. Also we was not aware that we could book a taxi outside at the valet and it would have been nice to be told this instead of walking to the lighthouse to get one. The tv in the room doesn’t have any English Channels apart from sky news or bbc world news but as I do not go on holiday to watch tv this was not a major issue. I would definitely recommend this hotel to anyone. Thank you for making our stay enjoyable and relaxing.
nothing to do.
I'm not a drinker. But do like nightlife! However there was none. And people turned up to meals in shorts and flip flops, even at night. (There IS a sign saying 'appropriate dress please' but was ignored. )
