Shockingly bad. Checked out after 3 hours
This is a shockingly bad hotel, more like a 3-star hostel from the 1970s. The only positive things were the view from the seaview room and the gardens. Otherwise, a total disaster and I checked out after just 3 hours. The check-in took over 20 minutes with no apologies. The very friendly porter was the only staff member worth praising, the others were very blasé. The room looks and smells terrible, with a lumpy bed and decoration in dire need of refurbishment. There were plastic cups in the room, no real glasses, which I was told was due to Covid, but i have stayed in several hotels since they reopened and all had real glasses and amenities. The wardrobe smelt terrible and felt dirty. As for the pool, there were no free sunbeds. All were covered in towels but with no sign of occupants. The pool bar was extortionately priced, so I have no idea what the restaurants cost, although I was told I wouldn't be able to enter without long trousers. I perfectly understand dress codes, but why you can't wear smart shorts in the middle of summer,I don't know. The QR codes don't work and some of the basic Covid measures were ignored. However, every issue was met with the reply, "Cpvid". In short, I checked out, which I have never had to do anywhere, and I am now in an excellent 4-star just down the road, which is infinitely better. Basically, a huge disappointment and definitely not worth the rating of 5*GL. Wouldn't recommend to anyone.
Glory days are over: Poor information and should have better stayed closed!
We booked this hotel as they re-opened after the lock-down. Their official website does not actually provide much information, most links are not working. PLEASE CALL AHEAD OF TIME TO CHECK YOURSELF! We expected more. The restaurants are closed. The gym and spa are closed 1-4pm. There are no activities. The rooms have been stripped of all unnecessary niceties (cushions/rugs) which I do understand but it does make the room a lot less cozy. The tea and coffee making facilities have been removed and are not available so if you want a cup of tea you need to order from room service at extortionate costs. The restaurant food (please note only one place is open and the website as well as booking.com do not mention this) is heavily overpriced (king prawns in garlic oil, 8 pieces €14 ) the cocktails are certainly not fresh - come out of tetra packs and then alcohol added €10 for a pinacolada) - the pool and room are fantastic!!! To hotel: Please send guests better information about what or what is not available. “Please check reception for daily activities” is not ok if nothing is available. That is actually false advertising. We feel like they simply neglected to inform guests to initiate room bookings and sales! In conclusion, this hotel could better not have re-opened yet. At €162 a night we recommend staying at a 4 or 3star property closer to the centre that would not have such an extended list of facilities to start with. Which avoids disappointment upon arrival. The reason why travelers choose this property is the wide range of facilities and services. Maybe in a year or two, but for now - this place is not worth it.
We'd walked past this hotel on previous visits to the island and thought we would like to stay there. we were not disappointed. It's even better on the inside! Staff friendly and welcoming, whole place immaculately clean. We booked B&B because we wanted to eat in the town but unfortunately we got caught up in the lock down. Hotel was under instructions to close down so first we lost the restaurants and then the bars, the evening entertainment and the pool but the buffet was a not bad second best. Under these circumstances the hotel did extremely well. we will certainly be back again when this is all over.
Fantastic hotel - great staff, facilities and food
I was a little concerned about the size of this hotel (around 350 rooms - we usually go for a maximum of 150) but was agreeably surprised. Everything was first class! From the moment we arrived and were offered a welcome drink to departure the staff were brilliant and the facilities great. The hotel was not full so we always had a choice of beds (around the pools or over the sea) and again the staff were very friendly. We used the spas for massage and hairdressing and were very impressed (Daniella is a great masseur). Food was very good. The buffet restaurant had an enormous choice for breakfast and dinner and themed evenings with show cooking. The a la carte restaurants are OK (it is nice to have the food served to you sometimes)! I am very sorry that the hotel has to close with the current situation. We came home just before it was all closed down (we had two days where we could not leave the hotel but we went for a restful holiday and hardly left the site anyway). I hope the hotel can see the current situation out and the staff are well looked after as the only income source is tourism and hotels need good trained staff. We will come back and support you when this all goes away. Good luck!
Super 5-star hotel with wonderful staff!
We stayed at the Gran Hotel Bahia Real for 9 days at the end of February. Unfortunately, this coincided with the awful (very unusual) sand storm, so the anticipated winter sun was a little lacking for most of the trip! However, if you have to be stuck somewhere because of the weather, we couldn't have been anywhere better than this hotel! Our room had a lovely view over the beach to the sea, very spacious and absolutely spotlessly clean, the housekeeping staff here are second to none! A nice big private balcony outside which we would have used more if the weather had been better. The bathroom was big and roomy with lovely towels and good quality toiletries which were replenished daily. The walk-in shower was lovely and powerful with lots of room, just great. The communal areas are lovely - the pool area with its shaded palms and little pathways is delightful, and the sunbeds are some of the most comfortable we have ever had the pleasure to use! Yes, some of the corridors could do with a touch up here and there, but certainly nothing major or to detract from how lovely the hotel is. We ate every lunch time at the restaurant by the pool and enjoyed a different lunch almost every day - the sea bass was to die for! Breakfast is superb! A magnificient choice in lovely surroundings, with something for absolutely everyone, just fabulous. We used the gym every morning and again, it was spotless, with a good range of equipment - treadmills, cycles, cross-trainers, weights etc with an excellent choice of daily classes. The staff at this hotel are all wonderful - from our warm welcome by the congierge team to the housekeeping staff, without exception they are fantastic. A real credit to the hotel. I just hope that the current situation with the Coronavirus doesn't impact too heavily for too long on this lovely hotel and their amazing team. We would certainly return and would recommend very highly.
