Fontsanta Thermal Spa & Wellness Hotel
Fontsanta Hotel has an all-encompassing atmosphere of serenity that owes much to its rural setting on the edge of a coastal nature reserve, close enough to the sea for the air to have a restorative salty tang to it. The beautifully renovated 19th-century main building is framed by newer ones in the same style, with pale stone walls and terracotta-tiled roofs, all of it surrounded by greenery. The same sense of harmony prevails within, where the interior decoration flawlessly blends old and new, with high, wood-beamed ceilings and other original features providing a graceful backdrop to contemporary paintings, sculptures and clean-lined modern seating in pale colours.
But nowhere is that sense of calm and serenity more tangible than in the fabulous spa. Its mineral-rich thermal waters have been valued since at least Roman times for their healing properties. Nowadays, they power a thermal suite complete with a pool, Jacuzzi and baths for one or two, set under vaulted stone ceilings, as well as a steam room, sauna and Turkish bath. Outside, in the garden, lavender-edged paths lead to tucked-away hot tubs surrounded by loungers - little private escapes for more de-stressing. At the stylish restaurant, too, wellness is the theme around which the menu of exquisite, healthy, life-affirming dishes is created, and the chef will always be glad to assist with any special requests.
The 37 airy rooms and suites feel almost like an extension of the spa, decorated as they are in a simple, restful and quietly luxurious style based around neutral colours, natural materials and splashes of colour from contemporary artworks. Opt for a Double Room Superior with Patio and you get a generous outdoor space in which to unwind; the Double Room Superior with Terrace gives direct access to the gardens by the pool. Peace is assured in the Junior Suite with Terrace with its garden views, while the Junior Suite Superior with Terrace looks out over the nature reserve. Largest of all is the Suite with Terrace; they’re all a little different, but have a partially separate sitting room.
