Counting myself hugely fortunate to have travelled the world, often staying in some lovely places, what a joy when a hotel comes along that simply takes your breath away. The stunning Illa d'Or is not just a good hotel, it's a supremely happy hotel, which is what makes it outstanding. When crisis strikes, as it has done worldwide in the past weeks, it's an acid test of hospitality. On the evening our party of three left after an idyllic week, every one of the glorious women and men who so graciously served in the dining room stood at the door to say goodbye. Not one of them knew what the future would hold for them or their families, yet they smiled and laughed and made sure our last evening was one to remember. And early the following morning as we reluctantly left, the early cleaning staff were on duty. Band-box smart, again with cheery smiles. We can only hope that, in the very near future, we can return to see Monica, Rosa and all the charming people who work there again and that their wonderful hotel continues to flourish. Although this can be no ordinary review, it is worth noting that the location is superb, at the quiet end of a lengthy pine-walk, which leads to the town. The breakfast and dining room have lovely views across the ocean - and stunning sunsets. Breakfast is exquisite. Dinner is not only a feast , but an occasion. Food served beautifully to your table is a treat in itself these days. The rooms are superbly well-lit. The hairdryer is top notch. The walk-in shower excellent. But all of this would count for nothing if it were not for the 'family' of staff who patently enjoy their work. Thank you! We will be back.
Adios for now
Well this lovely hotel is closing tomorrow for obvious reasons. We returned from a week there last Tuesday and would recommend it for the location, style, great restaurant and the most lovely helpful staff. We do wish them well and hope that they can reopen in the not too distant future. They also have a spa, with indoor heated pool, which is great for off season visits, as well as an outdoor pool and it is a mere step from the sand and clear blue seawater.
Hotel Illa d'Or - simply the best!
Home from our second trip to Hotel Ila d'Or and already thinking about when we can return to this idyllic spot. Everything about this hotel is just wonderful; our contact with the hotel prior to the start of the season was with Monica, who couldn't have been more helpful, answering our questions and making arrangements on our behalf. On arrival, Reception was welcoming and well organised; our room was delightful and exactly as requested with large balcony and sea view. Unusually, we had booked half board as intended to spend the week walking in the hills and didn't want to then venture far afield in the evening in search of dinner. Breakfast is great, lots of choice, lots of staff taking care of guests and others keeping the breakfast buffet tables replenished. The dinner menu also has lots of choice, and the menu changes every second evening. The excellent salad buffet is always there and the menu caters for most tastes. Good wine list too and the Mallorca ones made for very pleasant drinking. Outdoors, the terrace by the water's edge offers drinks and lunches and there cannot be a better view on the island! The staff in every role a hotel needs were all professional and friendly - it really did feel as if any request would be met with a smile and a swift response. We hope the business and the staff stay well at this difficult time and that we will be back there as soon as we can. Thanks for a great week.
This hotel is quite simply the most tranquil and beautiful I have ever stayed at. It nestles at the end of a pine walk which takes you to the little town in five minutes. No big main roads, just peace and quiet and wonderful views across the bay. The hotel remains family owned and there is evidence of this in every aspect of this wonderful place. The attention to detail is just fantastic. The rooms are bright and very clean. The bed was so comfortable I didn't want to get up but I did because breakfast was perfect every day. Dinner was amazing with the menu changing every three days. The staff were all so polite and helpful. Nothing was too much trouble for them and together they created an atmosphere of refined grandeur which was priceless. This is not a four star hotel it is a ten star hotel. I cried as I left, as the hotel was to close down a few days later. I pray it survives and I pray that I survive so that I may one day return to this little haven of complete happiness.
Service and situation.
Quite simply last week 8th to 14th March 2020 was the best hotel experience ever. The staff were absolutely wonderful, the location is to die for, and the food was unmatched by anything previously experienced. WONDERFUL!
