I will return but some minor tweaks are required
Mixed opinion on hotel but I think the main point I would make is that I would return and I would recommend. Pros: Location, Cleanliness, Friendly staff, beautiful views. We went all inclusive. Food was excellent. Really impressed with selection as I’m not normally a fan of buffet. Loved the paddle boarding. Negatives: While reception staff were friendly, I felt they gave very little information about the hotel and facilities IE who can access spa/indoor pool/towel exchange/what food is not part of all inclusive/the dress code. Now we found our way by asking but it would of been better had it been explained at check in. Also, at no point were we informed of dress code - long trousers for men- until we arrived at the restaurant for dinner. We were mortified. I’ve stayed at many five star resorts and dress shorts have always been acceptable for men and where they have not been, at check in, we received a list of all the bars/restaurants and the dress code for each venue. It left a really sour taste in our mouth on the first night as it had caused us some embarrassment. Also, we were on the third floor just under the restaurant, we were awoken each morning by the noise. From 8am it was quite noisy as you could hear the chairs been moved along the floor as people sat down. Finally, there was a girl looking for hotel reviews to be completed on a IPad. I would have no issue with this other than the timing. It was done during our evening meal. To be interrupted during a meal to complete a survey is not acceptable for me. I spent all day by the pool with ample time to complete but the hotel chose to do this during evening dining. As I said I would return for its location and all inclusive service but would ensure my partner has long trousers and we avoid the 3rd floor.
Good location and friendly staff.
We stayed in this adults only hotel for the second time in 3 years. Since our last stay in 2018 we felt standards dropped slightly, but it was still a really enjoyable stay and very good value for the price paid. The location is good being on the suburbs of Santa Ponsa with all rooms having a splendid sea view across the bay. Our room was large with a jacuzzi ,a good shower and a fantastic bed. This was complimented by a good sized balcony. We both felt the food offering, although good had slipped from 2018, e.g the variety of choice was a bit less and the beef and turkey were overcooked on the nights we were there. Also the absence of tea or coffee at dinner was disappointing. It was nearing the end of season but it was difficult to understand why the hot water for the tea was not at the correct temperature. Breakfast was very good with a wide choice of hot and cold food and delicious bread. The staff across all departments were very helpful and welcoming ,and made everyone feel special ,particularly in the restaurant. The swimming pool was good with an indoor pool in case one finds the outdoor pool cold which will usually be the case in late October. The beach at Santa Ponsa can be accessed in approx 15 minutes ,although the coastal path can be tricky in places to negotiate. An area of improvement from 3 years ago was the nightly entertainment which had great variety and went on from 21.30 to 23.00 but unfortunately due to covid restrictions within Spain dancing was not permitted. Overall the hotel made gigantic efforts to ensure Covid safety with wearing of face masks being mandatory indoors , use of hand sanitiser at strategic locations and social distancing encouraged. Would definately recommend this hotel and we will return at some future date.
Amazing hotel for a child free couples break!! We had a fantastic weeks stay! Prestige junior suite, huge room, amazing views!! Loved all the pools although we did spend most of our time at the star pools as close to the bar and quiet! We were B&B and breakfast was lovely, so much choice and all so fresh, staff brilliant, couldn’t do enough for us! The location is perfect, a short walk to restaurants, bars and shops and the beach. The only thing I would say is, I’m not sure if worth paying the extra for star prestige package, the two extra pools and prestige lounge as there doesn’t seem to be much that hotel staff can do to separate guests who have that package , any guests can access the pools and only really when ordering a drink would staff know if you were on the star package or not, so plenty guests around us hadn’t paid for the star package but used the facilities. We weren’t bothered , but just pointless paying if you can use the facilities anyways!! We will definitely be back, we loved this hotel!! The access to the sea by two ladders was lovely cool down and perfect for swimming!!
Outdated discriminatory dress code for men
The thing that obviously sells this hotel is the fact it’s adults only and the amazing views. We booked the Prestige junior suite, the room was very large but to be honest just dead space as no drawer space at all, we use the bath to drape clothes over, they could certainly provide a drawer unit and it would not impact the space. Room kept spotless and toiletries replenished daily. Could do with larger cups in the bedroom for tea as only very small coffee cups provided, I had to go buy a mug. Bed was very comfortable. Loved the canopy 4 poster beds in the prestige area and also the pools. Never had an issue getting a canopy bed no matter when we went down to the pool area, there was no early morning reserving of loungers which everyone hates! We preferred the peace and quiet of the prestige area but you could easily access the activities in the main pool area. We were half board and we usually dislike buffets but has to be said the buffet food was very good, fab selection and on the whole enjoyed it, we were there 2 weeks and did not feel repetitive at all. We enjoyed the prestige lounge for lunch and the staff there are lovely, work so hard and really friendly. You can get free glasses of water there which is nice, however, I went to the pool bar in the prestige area and was shocked to be asked for 5 euro for 2 small glasses of water , not even bottled water just filtered, they should really look at this!! Although we enjoyed our stay we would not return to any Iberostar hotel whilst they are implementing their outdated and discriminatory “rule” that men have to wear long trousers in the restaurant, these can be jogging pants, ripped jeans with crocs and a t-shirt portraying someone being hanged and blood dripping from their mouth but heaven forbid someone turns up in smart tailored Ralph Lauren shorts, they are told to go change. 28 degrees outdoors in the evening and my husband could not wear tailored shorts, unbelievable, that’s not what we come on holiday for. We holiday in 5 star hotels around the world including Dubai where smart shorts are acceptable so I fail to see what Iberostar think they are achieving by implementing this old fashioned lazy approach! Easy to say no beach wear, vests, beachwear etc, women you can wear your shorts though and even saw a woman wearing a beach coverup for dinner one night (I have the same one) So in summary, if you want amazing views, lovely food and as a man don’t mind being discriminated against then go and you will have a great time.
first holiday in two years
Well looked after by the staff always happy to help room was clean but a bit dated tea & coffee facilities would have been good in the room over all very happy the food very good as was the choice of menu
