Warmth and luxury in beautiful surroundings
The beautiful setting of the hotel between the sea and mountains. Staff who are warm, welcoming and can’t do enough for you. A clean and well maintained hotel and gardens. Delicious food. Breathtaking scenery. Beautiful Deia. Idyllic Muleta - the hotels exclusive cove. Which is why people of all ages return again and again……
Great couples weekend
Fantastic experience for a short weekend. My husband and debated staying here or the 5 star in town, but settled on Es Moli for its private beach access and precious reviews. So glad we did. The service is very good - the women in reception are fantastic! - the updated rooms on the the top floor have pretty sea views and the pool area is large and beautiful. The property itself is so lovely with flowers and stone paths surrounding you. We loved the easy 15 minute walk to dinner and back each night. The tennis court is lovely and shaded. You do have to book lessons a few days in advance though, as they don’t have a resident player. Breakfasts were very nice, but the one lunch salad we had wasn’t great. (Though we had some of the best prawns ever at their cove cafe!!) The cove is stunning and truly private, locked away behind a gate. The 15 beds are situated on platforms as to get privacy and the cafe was excellent! It really beats having to sit on a rock next to 100 people at Cala Deia! (Though the hike to Cala Deia is lovely!) We felt really comfortable at Moli - it’s not a hip place - it’s just really chill. We ended up visiting Belmond for drinks/ dinner and honestly, though the grounds and service are stunning, we really preferred the casual vibe of Moli. (Maybe it’s post-lockdown, maybe I’m getting old, but I’m bored of dressing to the nines just to go down to my hotel lobby!) If you want a great couples weekend away from the kids, this is it. We had dinner at Sebastian (great) and L’Olivi (good).
If you want peace and beauty then this is the place to stay
We originally were coming to a wedding in Deia two years ago and staying at the Es Moli, but due to Covid we had to postpone twice. We made it this time and returned last week. The hotel is set up in the mountains, overlooking the hills, Deia and the sea in the distance. Each room is well equipped with toiletries, bath robes and mini bar. You have to pre order breakfast and select a time to go to the restaurant to eat. Apparently this is all due to Covid restrictions. There is plenty of choice. The weather sadly was mixed, so could not always eat on the outside veranda. There is a large swimming pool with sunbeds bearing in mind due to being so high in the hills not all the beds get the sun. There are different terraces to sit and a bar serving drinks and food. Es Moli has a private cove about a twenty minute bus journey away, the road is windy with a big drop down the cliffs! Once at the cove again there are terraces with sunbeds (again lots in the shade) the only way into the sea is by a ladder as it is all rocky. Twice during the week this area was fenced off so you could not swim due to the rough seas. Again there is a bar which serves both drinks and food. We only ate in the hotel once, sadly did not think the food was that nice and expensive. We walked the fifteen minute walk up further into the hills to Deia where there are many restaurants serving great food at realistic prices. All the staff at the hotel we found were very helpful and friendly. There is a large bar with lots of comfortable seating. This is a hotel where one can definitely relax providing the weather is sunny to be able to sit outside. We both had a wonderful week, but have decided we would rather be nearer the sea next time we return to Majorca.
Charming, walkable and affordable
The best part about Es Moli is Deia. A village sandwiched between the mountains and the cliffside peering over the sea, it’s one of those places for those who love it, there is a deep sadness when parting. But it’s quiet and simple and perhaps not for everyone. As a hotel, Es Moli is a charming hotel with thoughtful staff, wonderful views and it ticks all of the essential boxes — walking distance to town, rare and delightful private swimming hole a few miles away, nice pool, balconies with perfect views great for drinking wine and playing cards. What it is - an honest, well priced hotel with kind staff and mostly traditional interiors and okay food. What it isn’t — trendy or refined. For us, on this particular part of our trip, it was perfect. We debating staying at the beautiful Belmond (about 4-5x nightly rate), and we ultimately decided to reserve one of the renovated rooms at Es Moli for 6 nights and spend our extra change on renting boats (Nautical Soller), drinking pricey cocktails listening to live music at La Residencia Belmond, paying a tennis instructor (Amazing — Ariel), and hiking. Some tips for a great tip: if you are going in high season, lean on the concierge (she had great advice) and book a boat in advance. It’s a perfect afternoon, especially if you head opposite of Deia towards the even more wild edge of the island. We appreciated the recommendation to use Nautical Soller. Do the 2.5 hour hike to Soller, and have lunch in town at the end at a delightful vegetarian spot (to take a break from Spanish food). Make reservations in advance to visit their seaside location, as it has a fixed capacity. Walk down to the town tennis court and book a few lessons with Ariel - he’s wonderful and fun. Have dinner at bens d'avall which just earned its Michelin Star after 3 generations in the kitchen. Arrive at 7:30pm (with a reservation) and enjoy an absolutely stunning view of the water. Make a lunch reservation in Soller Port at Patiki Beach, where the food is surprisingly exceptional (ordered an overflowing green salad and perfectly prepared seabags) and have the exceptional natural white wine by a female Mallorcan winemaker, Coti. It’s the best bottle of island white wine we had all trip.
A pleasure to visit
We have just returned from a wonderful week in the Es Moli hotel. A big Thank You is to be given to all the staff for their great service during our time there. A special word of thanks is due to Junior, Bel and Melissa who were more than helpful on the Reception Desk. The hotel is always spotless in every way. The views to Deia from the hotel are spectacular and the village is easily reached. There you can find some excellent restaurants. We would certainly hope to return in the future.
