La Casona is beautiful and tranquil: a place to go to slow down, relax, and luxuriate. If you take it easy and embrace the pace, it is fantastic. I give the hotel 4 stars for the mediocre customer service. A hotel of this quality should have a well-trained staff. I understand it is in the country and appreciate the quiet atmosphere and slow pace. That is well done. However, when a patron walks in they should be greeted, offered a drink, asked to sit in the lovely living room, and then checked in. When I walked in I was treated with a person sitting at a desk whose only words to me were, “passport?” As another example, when I asked for a wine tour, I was told that it was at 11:00 am, and that is all. So, I planned to be in the lobby at that time. At 10:30, as I was getting ready, I received a call in my room asking me where I was and telling me they were waiting on me. Apparently, we had to be down the road at the winery at 11:00, but this was never conveyed to me. The lack of customer service training extends to the restaurant. They serve you dinner, which is lovely, but a-well trained staff would not bring one’s food the second one sat down before they had even ordered wine or been given bread. At the Equilibrio restaurant, which is also lovely, I was utterly ignored. And, at a restaurant like that, I should not have had to ask for a bottle of water four times before receiving it. Now let’s talk about the biggest customer service flaw: the sommelier. The sommelier is rude rude rude. I get that he has a passion for wine, but he doesn’t listen to one’s requests and preferences and argues when you disagree. He is haughty and exactly the opposite of the vibe one wants when going to the country to relax. On a high note, the woman who does the horseback rides is fantastic. She told me she was trained in tourism in San Pedro de Atacama. If everyone at La Casona had her customer service skills it would be perfect. Would I go back? Absolutely. In fact, this was my second trip there. Would I expect customer service to match the location and price? I would hope for it but not expect it.
Wonderful relaxing location - a wine lover’s paradise!
We had planned to stay here only 3 nights but due to the disturbances in the city of Valparaiso we cancelled our trip there and stayed 6 nights which is quite unusual but we enjoyed every minute. We did long walks everyday in the hills and vineyards, lazy afternoons reading at the pool and very nice food and wonderful wine in this biodynamic vineyard. The staff were there when required and very attentive and helpful. We also had a visit to the vineyard cellar plus a wonderful wine tasting with a Pablo the sommelier. We also did some day trips with Miguel from Chile Rules which we organised privately. This allowed us to in an easy way to visit the homes of Pablo Neruda plus Valparaíso without staying in the city. I can fully recommend Miguel who was excellent- he also got us access to a small boutique vineyard for a fabulous tasting.
A VERY VERY special place to stay
This was a great experience. Customer service was excellent. Very relaxed atmosphere. Breakfast and dinners are included. A tour of the vineyard is also included. A very pricey property but we enjoyed it a lot.
One of the highlights of our trip!
We just returned from a trip to Chile where our tour agency put us on this property for 2 days. I just cannot say enough good things about this property. First off, this is a small hotel located on a working winery. The rooms are around a garden courtyard, with doors out to the courtyard, and a second set of doors in the back of the room that lead to a small patio set and different views of the gardens. We purchased a bottle of wine from the gift shop and enjoyed while watching a charming fox run around in the garden! The rooms are all named after various valleys and wines. Ours was very large, tastefully decorated, and extremely comfortable. The bathroom was very large. And I must mention the towels. I don't know if we got brand new towels or not, but I have never had softer, more luxurious towels from a hotel. Steps from the garden is a small pool area with places to soak up some sun, read a book, and of course, indulge in more wine. The property offers a few activities, such as a trip to the other end for a wine tour and tasting (which we partook in), as well as biking, horseback riding, and a van tour (which we unfortunately did not have time to enjoy). Breakfast and dinner were included in our package (dinner included more wine!). Both meals we received exceptional service and were very happy with what we ordered. On our second night there, all other rooms were reserved by another party who had different plans, so we were in the dining area by ourselves. The staff could not have made us feel more welcomed while making our dinner an intimate experience! A special recognition for Cesar, who worked reception, helped with all our questions, made sure we made our tours on time, moved our baggage, and was just generally lovely. We felt so pampered! If we find ourselves back in Chile again, we will certainly make sure we pass through Casablanca and stay here.
A well-run haven of luxury
Set in the grounds of the well regarded Matetic vineyard, thus is a beautiful spot with extensive gardens, a good pool and very comfortable rooms. We travelled here with friends and took an all inclusive option starting with a 4 course tasting menu lunch with wine pairings. Our stay also included all other meals, and a tour of the winery (more tastings!), as well as riding, hiking and cycling options. The restaurants were top notch and the service excellent. Booking direct was very straightforward too. Highly recommend.
